I'm using PCSX2 to play PS2 games, but they always look blurry, jaggy and just weird. I'm pretty sure this isn't because of their age or anything, it's something in the emulator
What do?
>>
idk check software mode or hardware mode or somethin senpaitchifamdela

increase your resolution scale and use a different scaling algorithm dumbdumb
>>
deinterlacing always makes ps2 games look like shit. they look the best on crt television. that's just how it is.

Why so pissy, xister?

Texture packs are the final touch.
>>
>>723869554
Make sure bilinear filtering isn't on because a lot of emulators have it on by default.

how do you get a crt filter to work on pcsx2? it is not like a good ntsc filter is built in like with duckstation.
>>723873173
tbf upping the internal resolution can screw up certain games like with Dragon Quest 8 and Yakuza.
>>
>>723869554
Some games can be forced into progressive mode by a .pnach patch. Makes a huge difference.
>>
>>723874351
Yakuza is fine
>>
>>723875307
That looks good.
>>
>>723875307
Yakuza has a widescreen option in game btw
>>
>>723875307
I personally don't play without a filter but that looks good even without one

complete texture packs 100% of the time make PS2 games look worse

I have never seen a good one
>>
>>723869554
this is probably the second worst emulator on the market. only outdone by rpsc3. which is coincidentally, made by the same faggots

>>723869554
yeah I feel you
you need 12x resolution in pcsx2 to get close to the same clarity of dolphin at 4x

>>723870093
that not all though. even progressive scan games aren't pixel perfect like on dolphin. I blame the shitty ps2 hw

Yakuza is not fine above native resolution, it breaks the lighting and this still hasn't been fixed despite it being fine on RPCS3. This image was a few months ago but it's still the same, I just haven't updated it.
>>
>>723869554
When is duckstation2? I want to replace this shit.
>>
>>723881982
PCSX2 is Duckstation2. It's literally using the same UI and everything.
>>
>>723881359
but isn't the ps3 version in japanese only?
>>
>>723879954
>that not all though. even progressive scan games aren't pixel perfect like on dolphin. I blame the shitty ps2 hw
that's still an issue with not using a CRT. ps2 games are displayed with non square pixels. 512x448 (8:7 pixel aspect ratio) at 4:3 display aspect ratio. pcsx2 can only show you blurry pixels to approximate this. If you want it sharper you can make your window an exact integer scale of the resolution but you'll get incorrect proportions with a horizontal squish.

oh yeah, good point

>listed as "not an issue" on their wiki
ffs, so this shit will never get fixed
>>
>>723882261
Yes, but the point is that it's not an issue on RPCS3's version of 1 HD even when upscaling to 4K so it looks exactly like it does at native whereas on PCSX2 it's an issue when upscaling at all causing the visuals to look duller, lights to be slightly offset from their correct positions, and less bloom which you can see in that very comparison. It's supposed to have all of those when running around and takes away from the atmosphere when you don't have it.
>>
>>723881359
its fine, looks more cinematic
>>

>how do you get a crt filter to work on pcsx2
I use reshade. works flawlessly for the most part.
Duckstation spoiled me with its native integration of it
