>>723871168I'm actually shocked at how bad it turned out. I expected a disappointment, but I never expected gearbox to take a fat smelly liquid shit all over it as franchise's final sendoff.I can understand the S'jet wank because it was in full swing already by HW2 and I can understand obsessing over femoids in general because $CURRENT_YEAR, but taking away the iconic black and white cinematics in favor of poorly made Daz 3D tier fetish clips is incomprehensible.

Scrap the entire thing
>>723870556Eliminate everyone with unnatural hair color from the team
>>723870556>what would it be?Purge 1/3rd of the dev team. Specifically, the entire writer's and the animation staff. HW3 has a lot of issues, but the by far most glaring is the narrative. It is incompetent in every comprehensible way. The script is some of the worst I've seen in modern videogame. The animation quality and direction is beyond amateurish. What's worse about all of this is that we know blackbird had competent staff before. Deserts of Kharak was by no means flawless but it had great cutscenes, and decent-enough script, and that, together with music is what makes HW games so great. So how the FUCK did they degrade between the two games so badly is beyond me. Though I suspect: Gearbox. So that may be another solution. Just remove gearbox from the equation entirely. And if that means nobody else would pick up the franchise... fine. Dead is better.
>>723871572its already been scrapped, there were 5 people playing it after a week, so they dumped all the "next 2 year DLC" in 1 patch, and the whole company went silent - to this day.
>>723871682>HW3 has a lot of issues, but the by far most glaring is the narrative. wrong.the biggest issue is the ships cant even fucking fly and shoot, they werent programmed for 3D movement. >HW 1+2>the ships fly in 3D, always try to point their guns at the enemy, as in the Ion Frigates could, for example, fly on reverse, while aiming its front gun at the enemy>HW3>the ships DONT SHOOT AT ALL>they FIRST have to "align on the same level" as the enemy>then the ships turns its gun at the enemy>and shoots once>aww shit im out of position>stops shooting againa bunch of dumbass niggers coded HW3.
>>723871682>So how the FUCK did they degrade between the two games so badly is beyond me.They hired the Narrative director from Guild Wars 2 after she got fired from Anet for absusing a content creator. She's also the one responsible for Shipbreakers shitty Union plotline.
>>723871850>the biggest issue is the ships cant even fucking fly and shoot, they werent programmed for 3D movement. Not really, no. Again, there is a load of gameplay issues HW3 has, but it's not so bad that it breaks the game. And even with best gameplay in the universe, the game would still be absolutely insufferable with its current storytelling. HW games were always about the story. The gameplay was never really the star, it was a vehicle for a one of the best space-opera's ever made. When you remove the story, you kill the entire purpose of this IP.
>>723870556Make it good.
>>723872196>Not really, noyes really, yes. >there is a load of gameplay issues HW3 has, but it's not so bad that it breaks the game.ships not being able to actually fucking move and shoot in my game IS A GAME BREAKING THING. >but the story is fucking shityes it is, but its a secondary problem if there is no functional "video game" to begin with.
>>723871682>The animation quality and direction is beyond amateurish.its the best of the best of SFMs
>>723872379To me this is the biggest issue.Remember how HW1 and HW2 managed to have a fascinating story despite there not being any people involved at all? Most of the plot was explained over ship radio for fucks sake.
>>723871893but...why?
>>723872486Imagine being one of the few homeworld OGs on the team, management say they hired a new lead writer for HW3 and then you see that thing.
20 years for this lol, but then, HW2 was also meh
>>723871893>She's also the one responsible for Shipbreakers shitty Union plotline.Actually, I believed this story too but no. It's not the same woman. The lead writer for Hardspace was, in a hilarious twist of irony, fired from Blackbird for being abusive to her staff. The woman responsible for the downfall of HW3 was Lin Joyce. She is an long-standing Gearbox employee, responsible for writing in Bordrlands 3 and Tiny Tina's Wonderland. She did not, however, get involved with Hardspace. Again, different bitch, whose name i can't find currently, as I guess the studio purged the media after the SERIOUS criminal alegations. So in other words: the industry is choke full of CUNTS like that, you kick one of of the door and another one comes down the window.
>>723872480>Most of the plot was explained over ship radio for fucks sake.they ordered explicitly everything must have a face now. Let me guess. Women have problems associating a specific voice with an object, like a specific ship
>>723872480HW2 story was kinda ass, it was all about awesome level design and gameplay. >awesome storyCalaclysm has the best story. Then Homeworld 1.Then Homeworld 2.
>>723872364>yes really, yes.I fininished the whole fucking thing, the A.I. is inconsistent at times which is annoying but the gameplay is neither difficult enough nor deep enough for it to actually matter. Ships will figure out what to do eventually, sometimes it clicks, sometimes you'll go "what the fuck are you doing", but it's on par if not better than most RTS pathfinding I've seen in my life. Ships can fire while moving, they can properly position themselves to take fire positions - it's inconsistent at times, absolutely not gamebreaking, just... not great.Again. I could live with it if the story was good.I could absolutely not live with the story as it is even if the gameplay was polished to a mirror shine.
>>723872774if the game itself is unplayable and just doesnt work, then the shitty tranny story is just kicking an already dead horse. Homeworld 3 was doomed to fail the moment these niggers picked UE5.
>>723870556It's impossible because every aspect of it is wrong.>Story is an abomination (CGs instead of black and white drawings, script is leftist puke)>Sense of scale is wrong, ships feel tiny, doesn't have the same presence as the older games>Controls are shit despite being figured out decades ago>Gameplay lacks depth and the depth it adds is APM tax like cooldown abilities you have to spam>Ship designs suck and are nowhere near as memorable as the older games>Music is a severe downgrade, and so is the chatter between the shipsThe day I downloaded the demo will stay in my memory forever. It was absurd how awful the game turned out to be.
>>723872576ngl I would start asking around for a new job the same night after work

>>723871682>So how the FUCK did they degrade between the two games so badly is beyond me. Though I suspect: GearboxWrong. Blackbird fucked up Hardware: Shipbreakers all by themselves. The writing was on the wall.
Homeworld 3 felt like it was made by people who really really couldn't stand Homeworld. And I know a lot of people claim that happens a lot these days, and they might be right, but for Homeworld 3 it really felt like someone went FAR out of their way to make it bad. Like, even the stuff they already had figured out in HW2 is somehow downgraded in HW3 (that is, if it's functional at all). Basic mechanics like movement and ship combat that HW1 solved in the fucking 90s is somehow objectively worse implemented in HW3.The list of issues with HW3 is so long that there literally is no single fix that would even put it on par with HW2, much less HW1.
And remember: Not canon.
>>723873080>Blackbird fucked up Hardware: Shipbreakers all by themselves. That is true, but then again Blackbird was owned by Gearbox when Hardspace was developed. Shipbreakers was listed as indie, after all it was originally a jam project, but who was really overseeing the hiring practices at the time?I don't know. I genuinely don't know how much independence in terms like hiring practices Blackbird had at the time.Lin was absolutely someone who was pushed into the project by Gearbox. Then again, this was only after about 4th complete rewrite the studio has made, so maybe she was a desperate last-ditch attempt to fix a already completely messed up production. The game is plagued by technical problems and was stuck in dev hell so obviously there were issues through out the whole studio.Gearbox may be actually the only reason this game ever got finished in the first place, but again:If that is true, then: Dead is better.
>>723870556Purge all the women in the team
>>723873131i made a fleet of ships armed only with ion cannons. >none of them shot even once>they were just flying up or down, left and right, trying to get into position, while the enemy ships blew them upthe damn game just doesnt work.
>Homeworld 3 sucksEveryone knows that. Want a real hot take? I kinda liked pic related.
>>723873679>I kinda liked pic related. It's not exactly a hot take either. DoK was OK. If you let go off the established lore, and swallow the really stupid twist at the end, it's an OK RTS and great tribute to HW. Art direction, soundtrack, sound design and voiceacting is on par with HW1, even if the story itself isn't, and that is the best you can expect from a modern-day HW game.I don't know anyone who had interest in HW IP and flat out disliked DoK. I think the pretty much unanimous response was "Yeah, this is cool, go on, make a proper HW sequel, you clear have the talent."Oh, how wrong we all were.
>>723872480HW2's story wasn't fascinating it was an almost loreless macguffin chase unless Makan shows up again to talk about becoming supercool religious and Karan says Nuh i'm religious supercool and then they find the guffin then fight The End. No overarching goal clear from the start, no tribulations to achieve it, fake feels for tearjerking. Teleport there and find a clue then teleport there and find a clue then teleport there but the hyperspachi bloop is gone so teleport there to find a clue then teleport there to have a fight about it and everyone talks grand to make it seem epic. Traveling all over the place like that without rhyme or reason. It didn't try to hide its status of mere justification for a string of missions to happen.
>>723872480>Remember how HW1 and HW2 managed to have a fascinating storyBy "HW2" I assume you mean Cataclysm because otherwise that sentence doesn't make sense.
>>723873827Oh. I thought /v/ hated DoK. My bad.
>>723873679its a good game. too short, is my only gripe with it.
>>723874004>Oh. I thought /v/ hated DoK. My bad.I don't know how /v/ feels, I actually play and occasionally enjoy games, I'm not exactly on the same wavelength as most of this board. But I know a lot of people who absolutely grew up with HW being one of their favorite titles and that is who I base my estimates of its reception. Also, DoK was commercially and critically successful enough get Gearbox to greenlight the much more ambitious HW3 project. So even by economic/market standards, DoK was a success.
>>723873870every time i replay HW2 i drop it in the mission after the Bentusi blew up and i have to waste 9000 hours trying to retrieve the motherfucking parts from the radiation fields. Possibly the worst mission in the entire Homeworld franchise.

>>723873008Is Frostpunk 2 actually any good? I'd heard some bad things about it on release.
>>723874004Understandable why some anons would be peeved about it. With its fast gameplay and short match length it seemed like the studio wouldn't have said no to some esport deal. At release DoK had many bugs, it was truly riddled with glitches and they only fixed them up over the span of 9 years after release. Micro management heavy so that was gooclick. Can't change keybinds in the options and that was objectively a crime. DLC factions were a little bit of a rip off. Priding themselves on selling DoK for 40 dollies, yet each faction is 10 dollars? That comes back to a full 60.Plus today the servers are housed by Epic so so no offline solo play, haha fuck me.Story wise, lore wise: acceptable but our esteemed lore purists didn't like the fine prints.

>>723870556The devs
>>723874867its ass.zero immersion, instead of slowly building up your city and watch the people work in it, you just construct entire gigantic districts with 1 click.
>>723874867>Is Frostpunk 2 actually any good? Not him but unfortunately, having played a decent chunk of it myself, I can testify that it isn't great.A lots of things are wrong with it, even if you are onboard with the complete shift of both tone and genre - down to things like genuinely terrible U.I.It lacks the atmosphere and immersion of the first game, but it does not provide equivalent value in depth of gameplay. It's still actually a very simplistic game, just like FP1 was but now also incredibly sterile and somehow, just very clunky to even control. Basic tasks like setting up supply routes can be an absolute chore. The senate thing is fine in theory, but with how distant from the game you feel, it's just a matter of checks and balances. It's really hard to give a shit about any of the factions when the world feels like a spreadsheet and not a real place, so in the end, you'll quickly end up reducing it to "what gets me the next tech tree item the quickest", and once you figure out the mechanic (which is at first very confusing, but again, due to lack of communication, not due to mechanical complexity), you'll stop mechanically work towards the next task. There is nothing (besides the occasionally awful controls) objectively BAD about it, but also not anything good.Except for the soundtrack. the soundtrack is as good as it was in the first game, but... I'd recommend just listening to it on youtube.
>>723872480>HW2>fascinating storyNo, it's where all went to shit. It dumbed down the lore and story to just Hiigarans (good guys) versus Vaygr (bad guys). Even Bentusi were reduced to a minor cameo role and were fucking killed off to make sure Hiigarans would never be contested in any way.

She was only brought in because blackbird had fallen behind on schedule and Gearbox/Take 2 didn't like it . . . and it royally fucked the entire product and left a mark on the franchise so horrifyingly bad that Homeworld as an IP will never be touched again.I don't hate women. I do however hate Lin fucking Joyce. She stole my hope and wonder for a game I had been looking forward too since I was a child and ensured that it will never be returned. If I had half a chance I'd steal her fucking PHD certificate in narrative gaming (or whatever the fuck it is), have a massive, wet, sloppy shit and wipe my arse with it - and then frame it back in her office before finding something she loves and pissing all over it. Nepotistic bitch has no right or skills to be involved in gaming. Go back to serving in fucking starbucks you talentless cow.
>>723875418I actually agree with most of your points (aside from the bug thing, but admitedly I played the game a good few years after release), but again: I think most people who care about HW are actually still fine with it. Because most HW players are ultimately not that bothered about the gameplay, as long as it is playable. The biggest temper tantrum I've seen someone throw about the game myself, was because of just how much it raped the lore, especially how much it contradicted HW1's manual, which I've seen some people treat like a sacred object. I'm one of them, actually, I fucking low HW1 manual, maybe more than the game.Your post did actually make me remember a lot of negative things about the game I kinda... suppressed in my memory. But that is the charm of a great tone and solid storytelling... it leaves a big imprint, shit like not being able to rebind contol keys, something I'd fucking abandon a game entirely over normally, just kinda seems trivial here. It's not trivial, actually, god damn it's an awful practice but... I liked DoK and most people who liked HW1 liked it as well.
