CS2(cs go) made it so you can trade up the highest rarity (ignoring contraband) gun skins to get a guranteed knife or glove, thus jacking up every covert weapon skin's price regardless of user demand or genuine rarity due to discontinued or active series. Genuinely how do you even predict stuff like this as a trader?

What the fuck are you even supposed to do in this situation unless you’re glued to the screen 24/7? Literally a case of blink and you miss it. So if you wanted to profit from this it’s literally just get lucky and be at the right place at the right time?

My old AWP one hasn't budged at all (then again it is 800 dollars already). I have tons of early restricted (and dupes) worth way more than that one 40 dollar one.
That and a sticker which would be contraband equivalent.

Looks like the knife did lose 200 or so in value.

>Those people needed some help, and Gay Ben is cutting them off cold turkey at his own expense.
Unfortunately, that probably wasn't the intent. Valve probably did this to increase market traffic and to reduce the value of hoarding big-ticket items. Most of the really big sales happen off Steam, so I wonder if this was an attempt to drop the prices lower to dissuade people from trading outside of the Steam marketplace by making the effort not as worthwhile.

They don't get a cut if the sale happens through a third-party trading platform, which is usually where the big $1,000+ cash trades are happening. Nobody wants to use Steam marketplace for that sort of thing since you can't withdraw the money into your real bank account. Instead they have trusted third-parties handle it as a normal cashless item-item trade over Steam while an irl cash transaction takes place.

>Can someone explain this to me, a non-gambler/trader
For the last 10-15 years, Valve has had a crazy market for counter strike skins. For the longest time, the only way to get a gold was to get it out of a case. They added a update that lets you turn 5 red skins into a gold.
There were some red skins worth ~$1.00
Before the prices got jacked up earlier today, you could literally turn ~$15 into a $2500 knife.
tl;dr The made up money laundering counter strike fake skin pixels market is crashing with no survivors.

>>
>>723937496

golds going down means everything goes down
>>
Anyone who plays CSshit or trades skins needs to be put down irl
>>
>>723937559
Because the value of golds is not really going down. The value of what you can now trade up in order to get a gold is increasing, which thus causes golds to further increase in value when the rest of the market has adjusted to this.

Once all the skins that can be turned into a knife are bought up and market scarcity on them becomes the norm, the value rubberbands back up. It's not like Valve have increased drop rates from cases to flood the market. In the long run, this clears out unsold skins on the market and leads to them all being more "valuable" eventually.

yeah, but people won't trust them now, no one's gonna buy dragon lores or blue gems, it's clear that valve can't be trusted
I'm really into cs skins, I lost 7.5k usd myself from this update, if you want my advice, try to sell them soon if you can, this update isn't "just" random, they probably did it because knives were exceeding the steam market price of 2k usd, with this update, valve is assured that people will use the steam market again to buy and sell knives, of which they take a 15% commission of (unlike third party sites that had a 2% commission fee and allowed you to add that money to your bank). They're probably planning on banning third party sites some time soon, that's why they did this, I'd encourage you to sell them soon, while you still can, that's the best advice I can give you anon

lol? there is no way you actually believe this, you have the entire existence of microtransactions working against you here, people buy things because they want them not because they will cost more later, but most people literally cannot justify spending 2000 dollars on a singular item. why the fuck do you think valve is doing this if not to get more people to purchase knives/keys so they have a better chance of getting them. it's literally the easiest conclusion you can make.

>I have perfect unlimited discipline to a point
lmao by definition you don't if it's up to a point. and what have you done with that so called perfect and unlimited discipline? did you use it to make yourself more valuable?

I'm getting tired of this back and forth but if you make excuses then it's 100% your fault that you're stuck in life and you've already lost. assume that you do have it harder than other people and that you have mental illness or whatever other ailment that cripples you compared to most, ok then what?

you don't have to recover from that immediately or even next month or next year but eventually you have to pick yourself up and move forward, when you're ready to. I literally gave you a cheat code plan for how to fix your life and the first thing you replied with was an excuse instead of trying it

people are LITERALLY making million dollar businesses by themselves because they're asking chatgpt the right questions and more importantly, taking action

1. do you think there's ever been anyone who's had it worse than you in every way possible, every way imaginable and still succeeded with a happy ending? Answer this question with a yes or no
2.If you tried to shoot a basketball from half court and didn't give up after 100 times, or 1000 times, or 10,000 times and actually tried to iterate and learn from every missed shot, would you eventually make that shot? Answer this, don't weasel

so just some basic math on case opening odds get you to about an extra 0.8 knives via trade ups per knife unboxed. Knife (& gloves) prices go down massively (like 40% lmfao) but other rarities go up in price to compensate. This shit was an April fools joke years ago now it's actually reality.
What the fuck? Value must be getting threatened by some world government to stop case gambling the price of knives might not recover from this.
>>
>>723945550
nobody knows, however, europe is still sleeping rn and thats the main cs population. give it another 90 minutes, the market is going to move a bunch soon
>>
>>723945614
>>723945550
It's really just a question of how hard the tradeup grinder decimates the amount of reds/pinks/purps in the market then it stabilizes again.

Market cap definitely isnt reaching 6b again though THANKFULLY.

Valve could not give less of a shit, they profit either way
>>
>>723945804
The souvenir boxes are worth more than the skins 99%of the time
>>
>>723945819
>>723945678
Tanking the price of knives was always the plan.
>>
So all the good red skins won't be put in the grinder but value may be less then previous, but all the dogshit ones will increase in value for fodder for these new contracts. And then the value could triple for them if they are part of a good collection that has gamma/dopplers. The main concern with that is how much will it tank knife prices.

>>
>>723947414
yeah and they increased in price 10x by now too
>>
>>723947364
Yea of course, but when the floodgates open people will panic. Reds have a 0.64% chance of opening. The supply of these cheap reds won't last forever so the price will go up again for knives eventually. But in 7 days time when all the new knifes flood the market due to abundance of shitty red supply the price for knifes will drop to low lows.
