Tekken 4 was my first intro to tekken playing at my friends house in his ps2. Everything in the game was sick and as people said previously, had an excellent atmosphere and aesthetic. That made me very curious about the series and left a lasting impression in my mind. Years later I would play tekken 5 and 3 which were both good games but were lacking that “something” that tekken 4 had which made you want to explore it and study little details everywhere. The further backwards you go (1/2) and further forwards 6 7 you also lost that slowly and it just get like a generic slop franchise.I think the biggest tragedy is that on average the basic character costumes in the modern games just look worse typically. I understand that you can change them and customize them but I think it’s another clue what direction the franchise went where after a decade you expect something to look impressive and cool for the wait. But it just ends up looking stupid to previous older entries. yoshimitsu and his octopus squid motif I think just didnt land well the same way his samurai beetle warrior look did or his undead ronin did. Jin arguably in his weird leather outfit in the new game looked worse than his older but still cool simpler tekken looks.
T4 was probably the best "versions" of most of the cast (Paul is the best example).Also the best stages, music and story.

Japan has a large history with beetles in general influencing various things. looked cool to me when I was a kid and as an adult it’s even cooler with the historical context. I like the one you posted but it looks over designed and more like monster hunter armor if I’m being honest. Where as the tekken 4 outfit gave the impression of it being some kind of organic undead monster samurai which I thought was sick.
