Liking the game so far but- I don't understand parries. They rarely work and I'll often just do a normal attack and take the hit. I swear the ones with the blood weapon don't even work. Couldn't figure it out in training mode- I'll often try to execute delimbed enemies and Yakumo will just continue to combo them

I don't think the story is "bad" but it's kind of boring. It's just another adventure, it needed to be more exciting for a "revival" game. If we get Ninja Gaiden 5 in 3 years or so then sure, whatever, but if this is it for the foreseeable future, it needed more of a bang.It needed a moment like accepting the sword from Genshin in 3. Big character moments that feel like a next step for their journeys instead of just villain of the week.Especially to justify a new playable character. Yakumo's reason to be the protagonist are all surface level, the overall story would work just fine with Ryu as the main character joined by some Raven Clan priestess or whatever, very little rewriting needed. Yakumo should have grown more as a person.

So I'm trying over and over again on the first boss to get a feel for it since this is my first NG game so am I basically supposed to just unga bunga with basic attacks until he does a red move and then bloodraven standard attack him out of it and parry everything else normally? My autistic pet peeve about this game is that so much of the campaign is running into setbacks or annoying obstacles to pad the length out. So much of the game is "oops, the road is blocked/you fell down/seori got kidnapped" etc which just feels like you're constantly going from 0 to -1 and puts you in a negative headspace. To be fair this is something old games did a ton so I guess it's fitting for somewhat of a throwback title

Man I was worried cause I'm a certified shitter whos truggled with DMC5 on normal but I'm having so much fun with this. It's had as balls but with all the super nice and comfy QOL this game has even though I'm struggling a lot the game doesn't really feel harsh at all. I'm just constantly chipping away at every level dying a shit ton but learning more and getting better gradually. Also it's probably cause DMC is just not the game for me but I find the combat in this to be so much better than DMC5. The game is just intuitive in a way that I never found DMC5's combat to be.

Enemies also feel a lot more dynamic, they'll guard, parry you even in midair, chase your ass while you're mid air combo. I would say you also have much stronger tools in general, things bloodraven attacks are a ton of fun to play with. So you have to rely on the powerful tools from the older games just a bit less.
