yes. fights were great and the music was fantastic. i don't care if it changed the overall tone of FFVII and changed cloud into a sad edgy boi instead of the goofy fuck up that he was in the original game. i don't care about the continuity enough to worry about it being "ruined" by advent children and every other entry in the FFVII universe since 1997. it was fun to watch cool fights and that is all i care about.

The modern gamers don't understand it nowadays, but in 2005 it was spectacle to have a) action movie with fighting made in CGI b) the movie being based on iconic and popular JRPG and continuing its story and seeing your fav characters again. Nomura was on a directorial hot streak with AC, KH2, and Versus XIII. It's a shame that last one never happened. It would have been his magnum opus.

Sweet Y2K aesthetics and it's fun to see a feature length Nomura directed animated film. Does it add anything worthwhile to the story? Not really. But Nomura's direction, without any Mickey Mouse shit to dilute it, is something I want injected right into my veins. He's second only to Kojima when it comes to directing video game cinematics, which might make him one of the best 3D animation directors period.

FF7 starts with starlit sky that pans down to show Aerith kneeling and having her hands crossed in prayer in Midgar alley with her opening eyes and mako particles flowing around her. Aerith is the messiah arch type that dies for others to survive. The game ends with lifestream coming to block the Meteor Holy failed to block and characters sensing Aerith's presence and the last thing player sees before the credits is same Aerith as in the start of the game opening her eyes with darkness and green mako particles flowing around her face.
