Then they released that weird MOBA or party game or whatever it was that I didn't care about, and then they seemingly stopped making new CB games.
I guess it was just so fucking bad that it must have eclipsed all the sales from NST and NF or something.

Its a heavily mismanaged franchise thats why. From being handed to dozens of varying devs with conflicting visions to being discarded and forgotten by Universal, Vivendi, Actiblizz and now Microsoft. Its a cursed IP that fluctuates every decade or so. I’m sure new remakes will spawn later this decade or in the 2030s then we’ll be complaining how the next Crash entry killed the artstyle again.

Also to add one more point about Crash 4.
Why the fuck would anyone pay $70(seventy dollars) for Crash 4 when you had Crash N.Sane Trilogy available for $40 in most places? 3 good games versus 1 questionable grind of a game.
And even now that you have Crash 4 on sale in Steam for $33, I would rather rec dropping $40 for Crash N.Sane for anyone who is interested in Crash games(if they don't wanna emulate). Crash 4 is a HORRID entry point and even more horrid game for fans. You can maybe enjoy few cutscenes and fevels without considering boxes at all, but the moment you start trying to even unlock some skins it's just annoying. Legit annoying.

But the way they added it was the worst fucking approach. Like, I dislike Mario Odyssey and BotW, but at least it wasn't miserable and hard to clear the objectives. Busy work yeah, but still.
Like imagine if Mario Odyssey had half as much content as now. Honestly, some people would prefer it that way.
Now imagine if they had a "Mirror" version of every world you had to also clear, with the slightest of changes. Now up the difficulty in all of the clearing stuff by like 5 times and make people grind same fucking challenge over and over again because they messed up some random. The "perfect run" ones are absolutely horrid in Crash 4, and the tapes had so much potential but unlocks...? I'm not sure. Like seriously, I never went through them all because I got tired after grinding one level over and over again in desperate attempt to find all crates(it was one of the china levels).

Crash 4 did nothing to innovate, nothing to sell a random new gamer on its premise besides "Hey Crash is back!", that is not how you sell a game. Even Mario usually goes to the effort of some token gimmick for why players should try their new game.

What is the selling point of Crash 4?? Nothing. And then it has to contend with controversial and unpopular design changes on top of that.
Crash 4 needed to do something to evolve the gameplay to make players interested. Twinsanity was a terrible game, but at least it tried by doing an semi-open world.

They bought into the DIFFICULTY LOL idea and just pushed it to what they thought Difficult is and what they believed people wanted some of the most well received platformers and games in the recent decade have been punishing and perfect run shit made for speedrunners.
