Cyberpunk 2077 was a bait and switch which doesn't actually have the bleak cyberpunk aesthetics that the first teaser promised. The bright and colorful goyslop aesthetic we got is dogshit and I'm tired of people pretending it is otherwise.

Defect is an upcoming FPS which is looking to catch the OG cyberpunk vibe. What are your thoughts on this.

Cyberpunk 2077 is pretty faithful to the visuals of the reveal trailer. Sounds like you're just complaining that the game didn't focus on the specific brand of cyberpunk you like. Your image just looks like a MaxTac squad, and Maelstrom and some of the other gangs look pretty similar to the guys at the end of the trailer. Regardless, the cyberpunk theme is more than just black and red chromed-up supersoldiers/druggies. You don't need to be an inflammatory nigger if you want to shill a game.

I agree with OP the look of the game is much more Cyberpunk then CD reds attempt.
For starters it actually features white men and not just woman and minorities lol.
Game look cool, I am a sucker for destructable enviroments and the uploading personality to enmies to spawn downed team mates is a cool idea to not break immersion.
one thing that I have noticed about modern shooters is how goofy your players animation look.
people spend so much time animating the character models and the world to be as realistic as possible but then they keep characters holding their guns straight forward and looking around. making the animations look diffrent to other players then what the actual pov player sees would fix that issue but i don't think many games have tried that so far.
>>
>>724061939
What you just described is tech noir. Cyberpunk can incorporate noir elements but its defining focus is its reactionary rejection of 50s and 60s sci fi utopias - depicting a dystopia in which technology has enabled a number of societal woes, and the resultant counterculture backlash. The punk part of the equation.

The noir visual element popularized by Blade Runner is not intrinsic to the genre. It is a popular accompanying aesthetic.

The entire genre is niche, there's no point in tailoring the game to the lowest common denominator who will have zero interest in it in the first place. For fucks sake just go nuts with the gameplay, someone just suspend my fucking disbelief for once instead of post-ironically going style over substance. I mean that line is just describing an overcast sky, it's not intrinsically "cyberpunk" or anything like that. It's also interesting that that line has a difference context now, as rather than dead channels being grey static they're often a particular piercing blue that works just as well.
Neuromancer has a lot of tropey cyberpunk settings like mega cities and orbital utopic casinos for the rich and powerful, but then you get to Count Zero and a large portion of that book is just driving through the Georgia countryside. and I think it really reflects Gibson's life growing up in the rural south; cities were these big almost mythic things to him when he was younger, and it's reflected in the writing of the Sprawl trilogy and his other works.

>you get a sense of destruction and the chaotic action that emerges as a result of conflicting objectives for you and your opposition - in this case, the gang that attacked you. > squad-based, Immersive Objective Shooter set in the last city of mankind, where THE SYSTEM, an authoritarian AI, rules with inhuman logic. Choose from a collection of dangerous factions—The System’s own policing force, Rogue Police Elements, or a host of gangs vying for power—play with friends in PvP or co-op. Compete to achieve objectives like smuggling guns, assassinating targets, or arresting suspects. Suit up with state of the art weaponry and technology to give you the edge you need to live another day.

That's mostly symptomatic of it being an open world game. You have to make Night City seem like a living breathing world where people live and work. So you can't have every part of it look as hostile as Blade Runners Los Angeles.

Sure. But in Cyberpunk's case that's because the writing, characters and plot are so sub par that not even having the aesthetic is enough.
