How can Valve legally do this? They ruin lives.

Okay, lets say Valve didn't do any changes to the skins, what exactly was this guys plan here?
Money transferred to steam wallet cannot really be refunded, so the only solution was really selling his account to someone, right?
But who exactly is gonna buy it? If someone is rich enough to buy an account worth 76k, then said person is most likely rich enough to just buy any games and skins they want, no?

Because them killing themselves after their waifu "drops in value" they too "drop in value" making their love for their waifu a lie they sign with their life.
Truly poetically heartrending.
So what ARE people fucking ending it over? I know its knives but do they at least look cool? The ones that are worth dirt now.
>>
Artificial scarcity mixed with artificial value driven mainly by money laundering isnt a good recipe to have. Valve did the right thing by deflating the prices.
>>
>>724058538
Can someone please explain to me what lead to this mindset in the first place?
At what point did a rational human brain consider that CS skins would be a viable alternative to real investments?
Did he buy skins directly for that money or did he buy lootboxes hoping that he would pull some million dollar skin?
When he says he invested that money it sounds like he planned for the value to go up over time was that ever realistic at all?
And how easy is it really to convert skins in the game into real life money worth tens of thousands, normally it is bound to your steam account and you can't have them pay it out so you'd need a 3rd party site to make your big sales but then again those only work as long as there is a buyer ready and willing to purchase your ingame skins or am I understand something wrong here?
I stopped playing Counter-Strike at CS:S where skins were free shit you could download from random fan sites and paste into your game files so this is all utterly beyond my comprehension

>>
>>724060059
Not only is it worse than gacha, it's even worse than Scam Citizen. At least the guys "buying" shios for thousands of bucks expect they will be able to play them in a completed game one day, this is still dumb of them but way better than using CS skins as some sort of meme investment portfolio.

Why should people who don't even play the game be catered over people who actually plays it? Might as well have Nintendo listen snoys opinions on Nintendo games and pander to them.

>>
>>724060801
truth
this change is good because it makes knife skins more affordable for people who actually play the game but don't want to spend thousands of dollars on them
this change is harmful for the people who sat on large inventories of skins in hopes of their value perpetually increasing
the former actually plays the game, and benefits from this change
the latter does not play the game, and is harmed from this change
i think it makes sense for the developers to make their game a better experience for people who actually play the game, and not prioritize the people who treat in-game cosmetics as investments

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It's a little bit their problem. The existence of the Community Market is them endorsing and facilitating the idea that skins have real money value. Even if real money doesn't pay out, people 100% pay in. Tanking the value of knives would also break the trust of the community they intentionally fostered even if RWT wasn't involved, and be a bad move. They can't be held culpable for people investing, but they can be for their losses, although the only recourse is that people just won't trust them any more

A little bit? It's not at all. Skins are inherently given value by the community. Why were there reds worth a few bucks when they're absurdly rare to get? Why were ST reds worth less than a knife if it was more rare than getting a knife? The community places the value. And fixers made prices so high that the only way to have any monetary value thrown at it was to use third party websites. Because steam has limits on how much you can sell for (which they buffed a long time ago to try and get people back in their ecosystem only for traders to respond by making everything even more unreasonably expensive) you end up in a scenario where what should be happening isn't happening. What should happen is either prices are within that limit, or people trade tons of items for something with absurd value so they can actually make money on the market. And the entire point of it all is that it's entirely done within Valve's ecosystem. You should only be making steam bucks. You shouldn't be selling items to get real money back on third party websites. You should only be using steam currency to redeem new skins, emotes, backgrounds, games, blah blah blah. The community created the problem. Valve allows people to use their API for reasons that were never intended to be used for trade botting or connecting inventories. It's entirely on the people for creating this environment. Do you really think knives should be worth more than they were back in 2015? That the most basic butterfly should be a minimum of $400? Do you really think Valve set those prices, forced everyone at gunpoint to keep trading and inflating the market and fixing everything?

The funniest thing to me is that people are treating (even if only pretending) that this "market cap" ever actually existed. "CS had a six billion dollar trade economy" they say. No, it didn't. It never did. One Saudi oil baron buys one knife for one million dollars once, and the entire rest of the market decides that it can do the same so its knives are worth one million each, too. "6,000 knives, six billion dollars," they think.
No, retards, that is not how it works and that is not how it ever worked.

Kek this is so fucking stupid.

Stocks are participations in companies that actually do something. You buy a solid stock and, even if everyone else sells and it sells for 1 cent, you'll still make money from dividends. Or from it eventually becoming more expensive. Because it is a real world business that makes something people want.

Cryptos are currencies. They are not productive, but they have value for the same reason gold or dollars do, just to exchange. They are not supposed to be an investment, the "to the moon" "investors" are just idiots and most of them have lost and will lose money. But they're still real money.

cs skins are just retarded because they were a bunch of low IQ pajeets "investing" their savings on a videogame that can change any time the devs want, and if the "investment" is a problem for the game, you already know what the devs will do
>>
>>724070226
>The items have no value. This is entirely land of make-believe shit cooked up by people outside of both the game and platform.
The items absolutely have value, a portion of which Steam takes as a fee every time an item is traded and Gaben buys yachts with.

They're literally skimming off of digital transactions of digital goods knowing people will pump money into the system for pixels.

It's fucking hilarious how jewish it all is.
>>
>>724060124
You now understand the connection of fine art and money laundering. You can just say "this is worth X" and someone who wants to shield their money from the government agrees, gives you the money, then tells the government it's worth ten times less before selling it back to someone else for the original price.

>Buy knife for 20k
>20k of your money is no longer in a bank / easily taxable investment

people invest in anything so long as they can make money, no matter how stupid it is. the Great Depression wasn't necessarily caused by the stock market crash. it was caused by people taking out loans to BUY stocks since the roaring 20s made everyone think that stonks always go up.

at one point, there were more loaned dollars out than actual dollars in circulation. eventually everyone realized how inflated stock prices were and began to dump shares, which caused panic (margin calls) and bank runs, and started the GD.

That's their problem, just buy other stocks.

This is like when people say "crypto is a scam! it's a bubble!" - No it's not, some idiots are just buying it to "hold bro! to the moon!" but it's still a very good idea for payments.

The stock market is real and a good way to invest in principle. If some companies are inflated just buy unknown ones.

Similarly, crypto is real and a good idea, just not to be used as an "investment". I don't even know who came up with the idea of calling it an invesment but that's a total scam.

yes, those are the kinds of people who trade videogame skins for profit. its thirdies and poorfags, or literal children. i knew a nigga that basically funded his vidya playing by trading skins and shit before he was old enough to get a real job. over time this little side gig evolved into its own economy similar to crypto or nfts and some people take it to extreme lengths because the average 80 iq third worlder cant comprehend more than a few hours into the future so the idea of skin prices tanking over night is about as inconcienvable as thinking about how they would feel if they didnt eat breakfast this morning.

>>724061760
other thirdies. the third world economy is insane. you have like 5% of the population with wealth and power and the rest are poorfag peasents. What often happens in online games is the children of these richfucks will make guilds/clans/ect and bankroll their army of poorfag peasent 'friends' as a way to flex/show off their own wealth and power.

so like you go to play a mmo, you see a brazilian guild, and you wonder how these people living in mud hutts can afford the 15$ a month fee when thats the entire monthly salary of the average worker... the answer is their guild leader is paying it for them, which is why the thirdies have such strong loyalty to their guild/country/countrymen. They have to bow and suckup to the rich players in their guild so they can get vidyagame welfare in the form of gear/cosmetics/ect.

It doesn't matter what stocks you buy - the stock market is never going to "gain" you value because it is nothing more than a hedge against the ever-inflating money supply, which is backed by nothing except the threat of violence. The stock market never actually goes "up." The value of the currency pouring into it only goes down.

were russians selling video game items to get dollars under sanctions?
>>
Ohne is live bros

Stay poor if you want, nobody cares if you do, they're just pointing out that you're coping over your reluctance to try harder.
>>
>>724073879
Yeah, it's part of the new sanctions anon.
>>
Honestly the only thing this whole incident has taught me is that 4chan is post mosque shooting 8ch tier dead.
Which sort of sucks because there aren't any real good places elsewhere to discuss videogames.
Not that 4chan is particularly good, it's been shit for a decade now.

how many drones worth of dollars are locked in here?
>>
>>724073703
Yes, like I said plans can change, it's better to wake up and start and fail early

And for example it takes 5 years to get through a IBEW apprenticeship program to become a journeyman electrician and you're making fuckall for those 5 years

No one should have any sympathy for a failed man, just another swinging dick, easily replaced

Fuck off subhuman. Imagine living life and thinking the only thing that matters is making more money than others. Literally a golem mentality. Kill yourself for spreading that shit way of thinking here

>>just live to work lol
Yeah for a short period of time. Now I get paid a great amount of money to do about 10-15 hours of work a week, 100% WFH. My boss is very chill, doesn't give a fuck about when I work, I get 37 days paid off per year. It took a few years of hard work to get here but now I'm coasting, I'll take that over NEETdom any fucking day.
>>
>>724061249
Nope because paying off site is against ToS.
>>
>>724059870
It would be 'A' hero shoot 'AN' makes no grammatical sense.

NFT bros are hilarious.
How many people thought Valve runs an NFT brokerage, and CSGO is an NFT market only masquarading as a video game to avoid regulations? How many "investors" who don't play video games were there?

not to mention there are literal mafiosi involved in CS sqkins, they're risking their lives
>>
>>724074398
This is particularly funny because I'm pretty sure Valve has always maintained that trading outside of Steam is not allowed, which where all of this money was circulating. I doubt anyone who exclusively trades within Steam was hit particularly hard.

so how do people extract real money off of the steam market place? selling to some random guy online is an obvious way to get scammed so how exactly do these 3rd part exchanges work?

>what even happened?
They made it possible to trade up items into the highest tier rather than only getting them from boxes with a tiny drop %.
>did valve really kill their biggest money maker? are they stupid?
They didn't, all of the money was being spent on 3rd party sites since Steam has a limit to how much you can sell items for. Valve loses nothing.
>>
>>724074481
Still won't stop me from not caring in the slightest if someone kills themself over lost money. Most of the population on Earth, even in first world countries, have little to no disposable income and are generally content or even happy.

No the only thing that matters is living life comfortably, which involves having money to make it happen. If you are forced to be poorest of poors by any circumstances it means you aren't living your life comfortably anymore therefore there is no point of living it in the first place.
>>
>>724074615

>QRD
Some retarded commie "accelerationist" things he can make the "inevitable" world wide communism happen faster by shooting up a mosque in new zealand and screaming that 8ch and pewdiepie made him do it
The guy who used to own 8ch but sold it (without realizing selling it means he no longer owns it) who was pissed about not owning it anymore goes to cloud flare and tells them HAY NO MORE DDOS PROTECTION PLOX
This starts like a 2 year burn out of him spending basically ALL of the bitcoin donations he got ddosing the site for years
Eventually the boomer who bought it gets a new mitigation host (and the feds broke into his house to kill him but he wasn't there)
But it's been like 2 years and all the posters have migrated back to other forums and shit
Guy that "owns" the /v/ board and leaked Sonic Mania and is why every Sega game has denuvo now is told to quit being a nigger and banning the few people talking about videogames he doesn't like and using /v/ as a booru for child porn
Gets mad and picks a fight with the q boomers
There are WAY WAY more qboomers than 8/v/ posters that stuck around.
8/v/ dies and the guy who ran it begs a transgender gorilla on wikipedia to PLS PLS PLS PLS LINK MY ALT 8CH (which is also dead, nobody likes mark)
That's basically it.
You know minus now there's shit like LLMs to fill 4/v/ with shit to make it almost appear like it's not dead.
But it's pretty obviously dead as fuck.

Fuck Valve for this. You can say whatever you want about whales and whatnot, but Valve know what this means and they know what it means for the whales. It's so utterly irresponsible to make this change out of the blue without any consideration for anyone else.

It shouldn't have been this way from the start but that's also on Valve.

Valve is not responsible for what people do outside of Steam. They outright ban people for trading Steam items for cash through 3rd party services. This is the gamblers' own damn fault.

I'm upset that Suicide is treated so blazle in this modern world. Suicide is a *very* fucking serious matter. So for people to either guilt trip with it, or to actually go through with it over this is just pissing on the subject entirely.

It is not a joke. I've been there twice at separate points in my life.

Nope
You also have instant continuous access to the internet the greatest resource for learning and entertainment ever conceived on this planet

However, NFT bros getting fucked is VERY FUNNY. Premium keks in the Steam forums.
