I am always skeptical of anyone that says TGM because a lot of the more fun stuff in the TGM series is gated by being super fast, which other games like Tetris Worlds and Effect do not do.For pure fun, Tetris Battle Gaiden which is available in the Tetris Forever pack or otherwise just getting the ROM online is great and my personal favorite is Tetris DS because it's a logical expansion of the GameBoy version in terms of mechanics, platform portability and connectivity.Worst is The New Tetris followed by any game where the focus is the Bombliss variant.Everything else is kind of in the middle and there are also a lot of clones out there that are great, but I assume aren't being covered here. It's kind of a bad discussion because there are some people that are TGM/NES/Tengen Tetris or nothing.

I would say Tetris Attack too, since that stomps every other puzzler ever made, but...yeah.
Puyo Puyo Tetris because it's basically current Tetris with the T spin's and actually teaches you how to do it, and I guess the mixed Puyo-Puyo mode can be fun, but even without that, it's probably the peak version of Tetris with nice graphics that pop.

there was an old tetris clone on pc i once downloaded where maximizing the window would extend the play areathat made the gameplay a bit trivial and uneventful but it was kind of amusing that it did thatwonder how impossible it'd be to play on the resolutions we have today but i doubt i'd ever find it again
