Which is the better terraria-like?
>>
Never played right, but left is terrible.
>enemies infinitely spawn off screen unless you waste your life cleaning every single tile
>upgrade and bench system is tedious
>actually everything about the game is tedious
It had some good ideas and ok combat but holy fuck they made everything else unbearable
>>
I wish we had right with the graphics of the left because the few remaining bits of programmer art and UI on the right make my eyes bleed. Right is the better game.
Left has shallow, incomplete systems (magic and summoning, fishing, ranching and more)
and its progression directing from the start is nonsensical as if they didnt even put thought into it.
>>
>>724093028
Both are dogshit
>>
Core Keeper is a really reaaaaaly bad game outside of the music, haven't played necesse/
>>
>>724094626
So just like Terraria
>>
Ive been playing necesse nonstop since it came out, I'm shocked how much I enjoy it, just beat the final boss on brutal last night and I'm going again with a melee build this time
>>
I asked an anon here if I had to deal with darkoids in neccess. He told me no. I could just get rid of them immediately and not keep them in my settlement.
Fucking liar. The first npc you talk to is an immortal nignog. Refunded the game immediately. I detest pavement apes
>>
I watched a video recently about 20 or something "cosy" games that the retard youtuber played for a couple of hours to try out. I knew he was gonna be a faggot, I was just intrested in seeing some gameplay of these games. By the end of it, he had recommended the viewer to play every single game except one, and hardly had anything negative to say, ever. Imagine how low your standards have to be to enjoy troonstone island or coral island
>>
>>724093028
I've only played core keeper
I tried to give it an honest shot but there's something about it that makes me hate it
I don't know how to explain it, it's like bland, tedious and not that difficult but I can sort of see a decent game in there with some key changes.
>>
>>724095647
>coral island
That game is almost playable with some mods.
But yeah I'm surprised people like that game, woke shit aside it has a bunch of souless tripe sprinkled throughout the game (characters feeling robotic, events not taking into consideration your relationship levels, asset store dungeon with pure tedium, etc).
>>
I always like base builders in theory but in practice I have a hard time getting into them. Enshrouded is the only one that grabbed me, but it's stuck in EA hell.
>>
>>724097120
That's where I'm at with them. Enshrouded was better than Valheim, and most of the rest are absolute slogs. Abiotic Factor is relatively fun but it also has an intense resource grind even once basic things like water and food are taken care of at scale.
>>
>>724093028
I played Core Keeper after hearing it being called that for so long, it's a fun game. I still have no idea why people compare it to Terraria though, it doesn't remind me of the game in any way.

I'm playing it with a buddy who is too much of a bitchbaby to get through Bioshock. It's certainly not a cheery romp but it never tries to be actively scary.

You get a stylist later you can pay her to change the skin color and look of any NPC. The skin color of the elder and all npcs seems to be random. Annoying but it is what it is.
>>
>>724093028
core keeper is kinda better, i played both and necesse while having more features its wayy too autistic, feels like i was playing some sort of 2004 MMO than a survival crafting game, also graphics are hideous, not that core keeper is good either
>>
>>724099609
Yea? How many hours before I can give an opinion? Do I need to dredge through 100 hours? 1000? Before I can say it was shit?
>>
>>724093028
necesse is pretty shallow. all it did was take concepts from like 3 other games and squandered them. didn't expand on them, didn't make them interesting, didn't connect them in interesting ways. literally just copied someone elses homework and somehow this slop gets an overwhelmingly positive on steam.
>>
>>724095360
>his elder was black
deserved
>>
>>724093028
Core keeper is trash with a shitty grind and extremely unsatisfying boring combat, it makes you trawl across the world and grind materials for basically nothing cool and you fight the same boss three times in a row before the endgame.
Never played the other one, try it yourself I'd be impressed if it sucks as much cock as Core Keeper.
The first few hours of core keeper really make you feel like it has potential but it just squanders it all doing fuck all interesting.

>want to make a funny go kart?
>it costs like 999 rare ores
>it fucking sucks dick, so does the higher tier one
>>
>>724100150
You expressed the need to have the game ease you into itself
That's an opinion you dumb cock sucking imbecile
>>
>>724098249

>>
>>724098249

yeah kinda rough to start
>>
>>724102742
That's literally not an opinion. Factually the tutorial is like 4 minutes long, this isn't up for debate.
>>
>>724102702
Corekeeper also lacks cool items or weapons in general
Range? Just shoot projectiles with guns/ammo
Magic? Just shoot projectiles with staff/mana
Summons? Just lame shit that sends out projectiles and nothing more
Melee? Lame and slow (also gay)
>>
>>724093028
Haven't played Necesse since a year or two ago. It looks a lot different now (that's a good thing).
There are a few mechanics that I don't care about but it felt interesting enough to hold my attention for 15 hours across a week or so (coming from someone with around 900 hours vanilla Terraria and 900 hours modded Terraria).
I'll revisit it now that it got a graphical overhaul and new stuff was added.

Never heard anything about Core Keeper that wasn't just "meh".
>>
>>724102024
Not him, but nah your playtime is alright. You, personally, just do not know what you're talking about. You're just fucked. Apolo-cheese, there's nothing much to be done about it. Recognize that you're a wretch and accept your station in life.
>>
Been trying out Necesse and I feel a lack of drive for building a base, I'm still just gramming crates and work benches in the guide house. The fact the overworld terrain doesn't really generate any interesting looking places that make me think "wow I want to build a base here" is probably part of the problem. No elevation makes it less interesting.
>>
I'm surprised so many of you hate core keeper so much, I thought it was an amazing game up until I realized how early progression caps out. I felt tricked into thinking the game would be longer and I'd be able to keep upgrading my shit forever until reaching millions of damage, but the world ends up being deceptively small and once you grab the set you want from whatever biome, that's your gear for the rest of the game which consists only of tediously hunting down three bosses upon which the game just ends. It's such a shame because the vibes/music/graphics/everything are incredible but the progression ends so early and abruptly.
IMO the game world could use one additional extremely difficult outer layer with new gear sets and a better way of upgrading your equipment that doesn't require those obnoxiously rare gems
>>
>>724093028
They're both painfully boring
>>
>>724093028
I've played both, I've beaten Core Keeper twice (solo and with a friend), played Necesse like two years ago (?) and currently replaying it with that same friend. So far, I've been enjoying Necesse more. Core Keeper has great ambiance and music, and the game makes you feel like there's a lot to its world but there's not really that much to it. The combat is boring and lacks weapon variety (6 summon weapons lol), which is a shame because I actually like the bosses.
I've more problems with the game, but other anons have already mentioned them.
>>
Corekeeper was my fave game of last year but I played it coop. Probably not as fun solo.
>>
>>724093028
Haven't played core keeper but I feel like Necesse doesn't give player enough extrinsic reasons to mess around with the subsystems. The baselines are fine and the QOL is appreciated but I'm finding the crux of the challenge is to be good at bullet hells and find good loot so I'm barely engaging with base building and recruitment. Like they give some decent boosts but I can do without them and maintaining them is super easy, barely an inconvenience so I don't feel compelled to use them.

I played Keplerth some months back as well and I remember being far more engaged with it compared to Necesse. No villagers but the progression and material farming kept me engaged and so did the variety of tools and upgrades to the point where I had to keep rethinking my toolsets and base defenses. With Necesse I feel like I'm wading in the kiddy pool picking up toys floating around but with Keplerth I felt like I was going in deeper and deeper into a sunken ship trying to get to the treasure room using the stuff along the way to get me closer.
>>
every time i play core keeper the graphics (mostly just the way the terrain looks) makes me sad that i'm not playing dungeon keeper instead

Both were disappointingly boring, but Core Keeper despite having better presentation was absolutely worse, it's so fucking shallow.
Neither captured my attention like Terraria did and I think it has to do with how much better Terraria paces itself and 2D on a vertical plane is simply more interesting and fun to explore than 2D on flat plane.

>>
>>724097536
The security room is by far the most comfy location in the game. I've tried to make a base pretty much everywhere but no place feels as safe as the security room.

>>724095038
The minion/rim world aspect seems pozzed so I dropped it before 2 hours.
>>
>>724093028
Necesse, easily, sure it looks ugly but is a lot more fun to play, the only thing core keeper has going for it is the nice graphics, everything else is shit.
>>
>>724115371
I didn't like the cafeteria, something just felt off about it. Left that area as soon as possible and never went back. Power services and hydro apartments/kitchen/gym looked a lot more appealing to me but I never needed a base that big so I didn't bother.
>>
I think Necesse is a little better but I don't think I'll finish it just like Core Keeper. It's really boring how linear it is. Mine rock 1, make ingot 1, craft weapon/armor 1, fight boss 1. Then you repeat that same thing exactly 15 times. There's not really anything interesting to find, there's no side content to do. The village stuff is fine but it's just reducing a little bit of grind. Overall I barely pay attention to the settlement at all besides sending the explorer and miner out, and mainly what it does is make sure I have food available and put things in the right chests (although devs should just be copying magic storage mod from terraria in this current year).
>>
>>724093028
Core Keeper is bad alone on the insect boss wall.
>uh yeah you just have to prep for the next ten hours to get to the next area because you need the special boss statue to light up
>>
>>724115938
It feels like a trap because it has basic versions of everything you need. A walk-in freezer that you can dump shit on the floor until you carry fridges back. Several side areas that break up the space in logical ways. A stove that doesn't turn off at night. A fountain with infinite (tainted) water.

It feels like the starting town but it turns out it's also in a transport hub so there's no better place to be.
>>
>>724116059
You can skip shit by rushing the pirate and TNTing deep ores
>>
>>724116540
I know, it's basically the perfect spot, I guess I just don't like the way it looks as far as making a base out of it.
>>
>>724116059
Magic storage is a mod that exists only because of Terraria's item bloat.
>>
>>724113090
Isn't it pronounced like "nexus"?
>>
>>724104050
>hunting down three bosses
It's been a while but aren't the three bosses just the intro? There are a lot more bosses and biomes.
I mostly lost interest because the higher tiers didn't really offer anything new. Gear just changed color and that was it at some point.
>>
>>724117585
Anon clearly got filtered because you won't know how to leave that area if you don't try.
>>
I've been playing Necesse for the first time, and it's alright. It's a bit bite-sized, you'll see all the available biomes within like 5 minutes of starting the game, which is boring, but what's there is enjoyable.
>>
>>724117517
Then the title would be nexus, no?
>>
>>724095702
Core Keeper has no guiding design philosophy
It launched in EA and they just kept tacking on shit without thinking about what they were doing and it's resulted in a complete loss of potential it could have had

I didn't play right but Core Keeper is pure, unfiltered dogshit. First 2 hours are fun. Then you start noticing the majority of the loot are selling only. Biomes are nearly empty and repeat. Enemy variety is low. After you blow up the wall to expand the map, it's the exact same shit. More of the same. You almost never find anything cool. Want a new armor set? Farm the same monster with a 2% drop chance for each piece. You got a new weapon? It does nothing. Congrats.

It's a boring game.

>>
>>724127590
You can't really compare them. Stardew Valley is mostly a farm sim with a heavy focus on social interaction with NPCs and learning their stories. The combat portion of the game is just lazily tacked on and has almost zero depth.

Core Keeper/Necesse are mostly isometric action/adventure games with a focus on exploration and character progression. Necesse has a larger focus on base building and has a similar NPC system as Terraria where you get people to move in and provide services but the NPCs don't have any real personality to them in the same way that Stardew NPCs do.
