>One of the most interesting, unique, and fleshed out universes with tons of different options to make games from>One noteworthy game adaptation that while very good is itself quite flawedWhy are more developers not taking advantage of the World of Darkness IP?
Because White Wolf back in the day were idiots and Paradox is even bigger idiots. It's a miracle Bloodlines happened.

>>724116984>Why are more developers not taking advantage of the World of Darkness IP?How are they gonna get rights to the IP
>>724119397Ask nicely for them.
>>724119397Promise them money?
>>724116984Make a game then bitch
>>724116984It would be nice if they made games other than Vampire. I'd love to see a Changeling or Wraith or a Mage game.
>>724121154>Mage game How the fuck would that even work?
it's crazy that ccp didn't make a social heavy political mmo for vampire. if only they had experience making a game where people fight for control over regions
>>724116984It's difficult to make video games for, because it doesn't fit inside the typical kill-monsters-in-dungeon style of WRPGs or following a big long storyline like JRPGs. It ends up working best in an open world setting, which are harder and more expensive to make by default. It's not surprising that we don't see more games out of the general setting, at least not really good one. There are a few text adventures out there, but I'm not sure how well they work overall.
>>724121154There is a Wraith game actually.
Are there any other tabletop RPGs that would make good settings for vidya?
>>724125014Shadowrun has a bunch of good games.Legend of the Five Rings would probably be interesting. I'm not sure what the IP holders are doing with it. They let Fantasy Flight make a card game and have made some board games, but I don't know if they've ever made any video games with it.Vaesen certainly has potential. Altered Carbon might be interesting as well, especially with it originating from a book and so already having a setting and story involved. Eclipse Phase would be really neat, altho I don't know how it would be turned into a game and would certainly recommend a different system - although people playing video games might have the autism to deal with the system. RuneQuest could have potential as well, but I haven't really played enough of King of Dragon Pass to judge how well it represents the setting. There's other settings like Iron Kingdoms or Hellfrost which could make a decent video game, but you probably wouldn't be able to tell they're TTRPGs unless somebody specifically mentioned them.
>>724125014Delta GreenShadowrunShadow of the Demon LordBlades in the Dark
>>724125370What are the best Shadowrun games if I'm looking for a good RPG experience?
>>724125370>Legend of the Five Rings would probably be interesting. I'm not sure what the IP holders are doing with it.Wasn't there some game recently or did I imagine it?>>724125442>Delta GreenThis would be interesting. I could see it working as an FPS or TPS or a tactics game, X-Com style or even real time tactics. Some FEAR style fps might suit it well.
>>724125748I think that Shadowrun on the Sega Genesis is best if you're talking about a strictly roleplay experience. You make your character in any class, you hire who you like, you take the jobs you want, and you complete them how you like. It takes time at the start to build up credits and get going, but the fact that you can pick which places to go in the jobs you take and can go in full guns blazing, or hack your way thru security, or use magic to get into and out of buildings - that makes it the best roleplaying choice. Even if it is very clunky. If you mean more of a good video game RPG experience, Shadowrun: Dragonfall or Shadowrun: Hong Kong are the ones to play. I've not played Shadowrun Returns or the sequels, but I've heard that Returns is a bit disappointing and the sequels are a big improvement on the game. I'm not sure how rough it will be to start up with Dragonfall without playing Returns, but it's a standalone game and so shouldn't be awful. You can, of course, just play Returns first and then the other two.
>>724125764>Wasn't there some game recently or did I imagine it?I'm seeing this:https://store.steampowered.com/app/2536960/Shadowveil_Legend_of_The_Five_Rings/It looks like it's Slay the Spire with some autobattle combat system. I guess that Lot5R does, technically, have the combat in the shadowlands to deal with, but I normally think of political intrigue and assassinations and duels of honor when it come to Lot5R, not just fighting endless shadow goblins.
>>724125764I think a FPS/TPS hybrid where you can toggle between the two and the game is split up by isolated zones similar to VtMB would be good for Delta Green. The best part about Delta Green is that the lore is so expansive that you can go a lot of directions with it. Some of the mechanics might be hard and or unfun to translate to vidya though.
>>724123313Really? is it good?
>>724126083Thanks, I'm going to check out Hong Kong. How familiar with the lore should I be before trying it?
>>724121154There's technically a Hunter: The Vigil game. You won't like it, unless you enjoy laughing at unintended humor in pretty terrible video games.
>>724126452If you like the concept of Wraith, then it's a decent job at adapting it but it's nothing like VtMB. It's more of a stealth and exploration game. You play as a wraith and you explore a mansion to uncover more about your past self and the afterlife in general.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DErUzxRHziI
>>724126559>There's technically a Hunter: The Vigil game.what's it called?
>>724126559>>724126707turns out there's 3 hunter the reckoning games and the new upcoming one is some CYOA text thing
>>724126493It's a cyberpunk setting, so lots of ingrained tech in characters. "Street Samurai" is the generic name of people who have dermal armor (metal plates under the skin) and get into combat directly. They're the people to shoot with guns and use swords, so don't think they're a melee-only archetype.Deckers and the people who hack computers. Riggers are the people who remotely access and control drones. I'm not sure how much of a distinction they make between the two in Hong Kong.A bunch of magic happened in the world and now there's fantasy races and magic in the world. Trolls are big tanky characters, orcs a bit smaller, and you have drawfs and elfs as well. For lore, everybody is born human and gets transformed into another race at some point, so don't wonder where the elf village is in the whole setting. Troll Street Samurai are pretty common, while elfs tend to be the deckers or spellcasters. You've got Shamans and Mages for casting magic spells. Shamans talk to magic spirits and mages just nuke things. You can't mix magic and technology, so no dermal plates or implants for the magic users because it'll fuck up with their mana. "Teckers" or "Technomancers" are the mary sues who get to ignore this, and can basically become Deckers who can use magic when hacking and so on.The president of the U.S. is currently a dragon. Well, it was for the setting of the game. There's just a handful of dragons in the setting as well. Not sure how much they'll come up in the game.
>>724126707>>724126972I was thinking Hunter: The Reckoning for original XBox. It was pretty disappointing, a boring top-down action game that played a bit like Diablo. Mostly, it's about walking around and killing undead, not anything interesting that you'd expect out of Hunter. The amusing part is you could blow the top off a zombie and leave it as just a pair of legs trying to kick you. It wasn't really that fun.I wasn't even aware there were any sequels. The first game bombed, so I'm surprised they made two more.>upcoming one is some CYOA text thingThey've been doing that with Vampire and Werewolf lately, so not too surprised.
>>724127037Sounds interesting to say the least. Thanks, anon.
>>724127258I haven't played the Hunter tabletop but years ago one of my ideaguy game ideas was a game where you hunt the supernatural. Sort of a detective and horror game mix where you gotta identify the monster that's responsible, track it down and prepare the right tools to fight it and to be able to slay it.
>>724127686>one of my ideaguy game ideas was a game where you hunt the supernaturalThat's supposed to be Hunter.I never got the impression that the game system handled it well. Most of your "gifts" translated into new weapons or the stronghold, the main base your characters rested at. It's not getting any new or fun abilities that you expect out of the other WoD books, and you certainly aren't getting stronger to actually fight werewolves or vampires or anything like that. I preferred the old basic World of Darkness rulebook, now called Chronicles of Darkness, where you were just normal people and they had splatbooks for antagonists which they were supposed to encounter and fight.>Sort of a detective and horror game mix where you gotta identify the monster that's responsibleThis reminds me a bit of Geist: The Sin-Eaters. The original one from White Wolf in 2009, not the newer 2nd edition version from Onyx Path in 2020.In Geist, everybody has died and were resuscitated back to life, and as a result, they can now see ghosts and the veil has been peeled back. So they see things going wrong, and they can tell it's a ghost or a spirit, and they have powers that can interact with it and fight it. They can also follow things into a sort of spirit-shadow-world to fight them there, when necessary. And they get special powers to help detect and fight and travel to these things. They've got to balance this with their normal lives as well, since they technically still have their typical lives to deal with, and don't want to be seen wandering around hunting ghosts (or worse yet, walking thru walls) and so need to hide their involvement. I felt they did it better than Werewolf or Hunter.Yes, WW fucked up a bit by acting like Cinco de Mayo was a fantasy concept, but having characters who've died and so want to live life up while also dealing with problems. The Onyx Path 2nd edition tries to make every character hyper-emo doom and depression.
bump
>>724119397Same reason barely any property is - industry realized licenses are rarely worth it, and they can just come up with their own shit instead. Turns out your average player really doesn't care.
>>724121662amusingly, magicka has the mage sphere system in its rudimentary form
>>724125370>Legend of the Five Rings would probably be interesting. I'm not sure what the IP holders are doing with it. They let Fantasy Flight make a card game and have made some board games, but I don't know if they've ever made any video games with it.I fucking love L5R, but the roleplaying game really is second fiddle to card games.
>>724127686Hunter the Vigil is one of the best tabletop systems out there and that's a hill I'm willing to die on. Really great for newfags to tabletop, lots of options in builds, concept is a great way to introduce players into WoD and see if they like anything in specific, easy as fuck to make long stories or quick one shots with examples of dread powers for encounters. It's fantastic. Shame the IP holders are niggers and we're not getting any more Chronicles of Darkness titles, Reckoning and V5 suck fat fucking dick over Vigil
>>724131703>V5 is...LE BAD
>>724131703I like how scalability is inherent to Vigil. Want to have a neighborhood watch that ran into something weird and now ahs to deal with it? Want to be part of a global conspiracy hunting the supernatural? Vigil supports both and everything in-between.
>>724125748Dragonfall is fantastic>>724131656I dunno I've liked 4e as a system for l5r, lots of ways to make dudes and combat feels pretty great as long as you have a cheat sheet for raisesUnicorn clan best clan
>>724131808v5 is in fact complete and utter dogshit
>>724131656Hida is cute.
>>724131703>Shame the IP holders are niggers and we're not getting any more Chronicles of Darkness titles>mfw they killed nWoD aka CofD because they thought having similiar game lines would confuse customers
>>724131808For Hunter? You're Goddamn right it is and if you think otherwise you might just be the stupidest motherfucker in the room>>724131817Bingo. I loved how I've done one shots with a group of players all trying not to die from a Slasher and I've played in a long, multi year campaign where I actually managed to win a sword fight against an Elder because benediction powers are busted as shit against supernatural threats and I had a fuck ton of specialized focus in swords. The fact both easily fit into the same system with no real tweaks needed is awesome
>>724116984White Wolf DID try to break into multimedia, but I suspect initial efforts didn't earn them mega bux they were hoping for so they gave up.
>>724131904It's so fucking tiresome>mfw they publish their shit Hunter series, everyone says it sucks, so the suits assume that clearly means there's no interest in the Hunter IP and it goes back to being ignored againAt least I'm not a Mummy or Promethen fan. I guess.
I am forgotten...Has anyone ever played this? Seems kind of interesting but I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about it?
>>724131808nah fuck you every V5 so far was a fucking disasteri've never seen a company work so hard to neuter their setting
>>724132171I played it exactly once and I legit couldn't tell you what it thematically was even trying to do really, it's structured so schizophrenic with how the player is on their power level being a reverse curve that pretty much all of my table was like "what the fuck is this shit?"Granted we usually don't play the higher end stuff, maybe werewolf at most, so it might gel better with others
>>724132404Because Demon, Wraith and Mummy are more fringe games with less appeal to "typical" WoD players.
Would a Mage the Ascension game even be possible?
So what was the deal with this?
>>724125014Settings? Practically any of them. Problems start when you want to adapt the ruleset that makes it interesting to play.
>>724116984You're 50/50 there, anon.

Are Kuei-Jin even canon anymore?
>>724132621For me, it's Chroniclers.
>>724132528I don't see it being feasible without either completely replacing the magic system, or limiting your character to specific spheres and only allowing you to use them in extremely limited contexts like rotes. Meaning it wouldn't be Mage any more.
>>724132746At the moment they don't exist in V5.
>>724132824>mfw people complain kuei-jin don't exist, but w5 doesn't have kinfolk anymorefucking KINFOLK are gone. those who don't know werewolf have no conception of how fucked w5 is on many levels.
Where's my video game adaption?
>>724132897>W5>CanonA Pentex board member made this post.
>>724116984There's some rather decent games available for the IP but Bloodlines was the most high profile and known one. The Hunter games are rather good, the wraith and vampires vr games are both good, a few of the text games are very good. It's just a cursed IP since people are only interested in Bloodlines because it's reached critical mass and spread through word of mouth after a decade, though unfortunately Paradox seems to be too retarded to properly do something about it
>>724125014DnD but every setting that ISNT Faerun. Faerun is the most cucked shit 99% if the time as a slop jack of all trades setting
>>724126452It's the more sad personal horror element of wraith but a lot of praise for it after the first hour
>>724133219Based. Wish developers would use Dark Sun/Athas.
>>724126972Played Glenkildove. It's alright, worse than Night Road and Book of Names, a bit too woof centric and you get cucked on your choices
>>724133267Do you? Do you, really? You know it would still have to be 5E-based because that's the only way WotC would agree to it.
>>724133267Dark Sun, Planescape pre-cuckening, Spelljammer, Dragon Lance, Eberron, all good and much more tonally consistent than Faerun
>>724133454Legally distinct Dark Sun it is. But yeah, WotC moment. Same issue with Paradox peddling V5 for everything or they don't approve their IP being used
>>724133454I'm actually surprised nothing has come from myriad of OSRs out there. Just too small?
>>724133519Eberron is a name you don't hear much but that would make a great setting for a video game and to my knowledge I don't think there are any Eberron based games. I would love to play as a Warforged.
>>724133665>Warforged>Post WW1 setting>Pseudo-steampunkIt's a kino setting
>>724133665DDO was Eberron based, as was the overlooked Dragonshard RTS. Eberron in general deserved much more than the shit fate it got for "being too different".
>>724133454What is stopping someone from making a Dark Sun game using 3.5?
>>724133753WotC aka license owners. They don't want to advertise old editions.
Dark Sun's art is so kino.
>>724133747lets be real, eberron is warforged and magical flying ships

>>724134143Does Shattered Lands still somewhat hold up?
