What did you think when you first held this thing?
>>
I need to consume more testosterone.
>>
I never did, but i imagine it would be like the dream cast which is surprisingly ergonomic
>>
>>724138349
Perfect unlike the snoy controller for small nip hands.
>>
>>724138349
"What the fuck is wrong with this D-pad?!"
>>
>>724138349
Never did but looks ass
>>
>>724138449
It's not
>>
>>724138349
Feels like they fixed the Dreamcast controller by adding a second stick. Felt nice.
>>
>>724138349
I was mesmerized by how strange the xbone controller looked when my friend first brought it over
>>
>>724138349
"why aren't the sticks symmetrical like the PS controllers?"
>>
>>724138580
And finally gives teh bleystations a run for its money ovey
>>
>>724138349
this controller is shit, why are the black and white buttons placed there ?
>>724138449
it's the most uncomfortable controller, its even worse than the dreamcast
>>
>>724139054
>why are the black and white buttons placed there
I read somewhere that they didn't want to have the equivalent of L1 and R1 because that would be admitting Sony had the right idea.
>>
>>724138349
what do the buttons do
>>
>>724138349
that it was awesome
>>
>>724139096
it's not like you can't make a comfortable six button controller.
sega did it all the way back in the 90's.
maybe if they would've removed that massive stupid plastic logo they would've had more space for their button layout ?
>>
>>724138349
"Black and white buttons? Cool! Weird!"
Never had a problem holding it, I could hold the N64 controller from the outside.

It's called "Being Appropriately Sized To Belong In Europe" you fucking midget niggers, riceniggers, taconiggers, streetshitterniggers, sandniggers, petrolniggers, listerineniggers, insert various form of midget nigger here.

>That game presented in the local store on that stand looks weird but awesome, can I shoot it? What are all those aliens? FUCK, it looks cool.
>FUCK FUCK, IT REALLY looks cool
>Grab the controller
>Why don't my input do anything on the screen?
>Ah, it's not plugged in
>Wait why in the fucking fuck didn't you plug the controller to the xbox?
>Ah, because people would have had fun, playing the game for free. We can't have that.

Then I forgot all about it and then boughteded Halo 2 like 2 years later, never played Halo 1 until 6 years later. I adored Halo 2 btw, didn't understand all the story but it was awesome.
>>
>>724138349
Never got the hate for this controller. It was always good. I wish I could pick up a brand new Xbox OG right now. I'd just play on that instead of the modern trash. Mine isn't working anymore.
>>
>>724138349
"I think my hands are too small for this to be comfortable"
>>
>>724142180
i have tiny hands and could hold it no problem, the issue was that the white and black buttons were so far away from the right stick that i had to move my whole hand to reach them with my thumb
>>
>>724138349
it was perfect

the world needs to burn
>>
>>724138349
the duke was perfect for me, but most men are manlets with their feminine tiny hands that couldnt deal with it given lack of testosterone or being brown.
>>
>>724138349
The organization and size and distance of the face buttons still hasn't been topped, you can press all kinds of combinations with minimal effort.
The D-pad is terrible for most games though and the start and select button are a bit far away from the range of motion of your thumbs.

>be me

>have a friend who really loves xbox and hates playstation for some reason
>I prefer playstation but not cultishly or anything
>talking about controllers
>"xbox controller is better because the analog sticks are where my thumbs naturally lay"
>wat
>PS controllers are in the same place, xbox in different places
>your thumbs naturally go to different places, left vs right?
>he claims that's normal
>I ask about left handed people
>"controllers use both hands"
Weird conversation, anyway this controller is ugly and felt like holding a burger.

"finally something not built for emaciated chink hands"
>>

Instantly loved it. God I remember when xbox had identity. RIP xbox through xbox 360 days.

"These games at this EB games store demo are garbage, this is really disappointing. Nice controller though"

>boughteded
People who do this cringe shit need to be flayed.
>>
There was a demo thing with oddworld munch's odysee on it and I HAD to have it. I'm always going to have a soft spot for xbox even though they're pretty much dead at this point. I was all about the xbox and 360.

>fix by adding a second analog stick
Dual analog is a gimmick. Very few games actually let you control more than one character and if your camera is a character, then it should mostly behave itself and you just need two buttons to pan left or right, maybe one button to snap the camera behind the character and one button to let you use the analog stick to control the camera directly. If your camera is a perspective that you control, like in an FPS, then an analog stick will never be good enough.
>>724138870
>symmetrical sticks
They were only symmetrical because they were grafted onto the PS controller that originally only had a d-pad and face buttons, it wasn't a real design choice, they were just one-upping Nintendo again.
>>724139054
>this controller is shit, why are the black and white buttons placed there?
It was designed by a committee of overachievers.
>>
>>724145987
>if your camera is a character, then it should mostly behave itself
maybe if your game has zero combat, otherwise no that's stupid you need to have a significant amount of control
>>
>>724138349
Why is there a giant ad for the console in the middle of the controller? Is this really not a button?
>>
>>724146492
>maybe if your game has zero combat, otherwise no that's stupid you need to have a significant amount of control
Games managed with fixed cameras, Z-targeting and other solutions for a long time before putting all of their eggs in the dual analog basket when people got used to how much it sucked.
If you really need the constant passive camera control, then mouse input is much more suited to it (though by now gyro and 6DoF tracking can also manage a decent showing).
If you waste your player's time, concentration and ability to input actions on controlling the camera, then the game is definitely going to have "zero combat".
>>
>>724138349
Mech Assault was my first xbox game so it felt pretty appropriate
>>
>>724147829
deciding what to prioritize is a fundamental aspect of strategy in almost every game. if anything z-targeting can sabotage a player dealing with multiple enemies on the screen. it's not ideal in the slightest and having analog control will always surpass it. gyro can help via flick stick.
>>
>>724138349
I thought it was perfect for Halo. I have small hands but it fit great for me. When I held the revised controller I didn't like the button placement at all.
>>
>>724148145
If the game only has dual analog and nothing to mediate it, then it usually ends up forsaking other elements of strategy and sabotages the player by encouraging them to not combine movement with reorienting the camera. Analog control wasn't good enough to tackle the same kind of challenges as a mouse could until the introduction of motion controls.
>Flick stick
The stick in that setup is entirely supplemental to the gyro and almost inferior to a trackpad, because there's no need for snapback or varying strength of input.
