Why did Blue Prince get so much more buzz than Lorelei and the Laser Eyes? The latter was such a perfect case of ludonarrative harmony when it came to the puzzle genre, and it doesn't rely on ephemeral genre trends. The game was so stylistically inspired and developed its own symbolic network, displaying a masterclass in game design. It can tout an excellent soundtrack, cinematic fixed camera angles, complex characters, etc... But it's relatively obscure when it comes to the indie scene. What does Blue Prince have that Lorelei doesn't?
>>724141026bad title, bad promo art. If I saw your picture on steam i'd never even consider clicking it. Ever. Could be too many genres, and none of them interesting.
oh nvm i didnt realize this is an aislop bait thread dont mind me
>>724141026>What does Blue Prince have that Lorelei doesn't?streamer and reviewer shills
>>724141026Blue Prince's surface level roguelike stuff was a selling point, because it's weird enough.Lorelai has a bit of an identity crisis. It looks like an arthouse game, but it isn't, it thinks everything is a joke, so it just didn't get that crowd the way Kentucky Route Zero did while still being too opaque for everyone else. Also the maze level is complete ass.
I should play Lorelei again.
>>724141095I guess that makes sense, advertising is often a simple game. The trailers I've seen of Lorelei are excellent, though.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJVCBBMsrf0>>724141135My post comes across as formulaic because of how lethargic I feel.>>724141256It does bounce around all sorts of tones and styles, you're right. But I think that emphasises the psychological perspective of the game, which I enjoy the most on replay.
>>724141026haven't played lorelei but blue prince is genuinely just a perfect game. There's a chance I'll play a puzzle game that is as good as Blue Prince but I'll never play one that is better
>>724141393Like, how many other games claim Trace Memory on the NDS as a design inspiration? Love that little game.>>724141429I bounced off of the rogue-like stuff. Is the narrative and setting development very compelling, or is it mostly the puzzles that hit the sweet spot for you?
>>724141026Maybe I'm too internet poisoned but the name Lorelei screams "tranny" to me so I instantly rejected it as some queer arthouse crap I have no interest in.
Havent played a puzzle game as kino as lorelei since hotel dusk. Its a damn shame nobody talks about it.>you have to wait 5 minutes before making this postCool! Thank you based mods! Let's hope the thread doesn't 404 before then. I know the twitter screen cap threads and /pol/ niggery threads certainly won't.
>>724141576In that case you are absolutely brain rotted. The only woke thing about lorelei is that it has a female protagonist. That's it.
>>724141026Blue Prince has shills, that's all it takes
>>724141429They're quite different. Blue Prince is a game that you can sink a couple hundred hours into without running out of clues to follow. It's designed to feel never-ending. Lorelei is a 15-20 hour game that tells a coherent story in a beautiful way, and there's a satisfying ending that ties all of the loose ends together. Blue Prince is more replayable, Lorelei might be more inspiring. I love them both.
>>724141567The thing with Blue Prince is that it has a retard filter built in. The first few runs will feel boring because nothing is interesting, but slowly you'll see the veil lifted up more and more and you'll find out what the game is actually about. It's not even a roguelite game, it simply uses it as a narrative tool. The game would not work without it because you need something driving the house being different and having different rooms/layouts while also allowing the player the ability to modify these layouts. If the rooms were fully random each time, it wouldn't work, because some puzzles strongly rely on you getting specific rooms or even getting them in specific places or getting them alongside other specific rooms. The "lore" isn't all that interesting to me personally, but that's the case for any game. The drive is solving the game as a whole, not a single room or a single playthrough>>724141567>Like, how many other games claim Trace Memory on the NDS as a design inspiration? Love that little game. It's decent but it didn't feel strong enough to compete with other games like it in that era so it never really got the spotlight
