As some diehard Microsoft fanatics are screeching about it, and the rest of the wider franchise fanbase are applauding it: Halo is coming to PlayStation 5.

Which leads me to ask all of you: why the hate for consoles you feel "didn't have games" because they weren't exclusive to your preferred console?

Loving a game, or a franchise, should mean you want the developers of it to make as much money as possible in order to ensure a continuation of that franchise.

So whether a game is locked to a single console or not, thinking it will force a consumer to spend hundreds of dollars on that console in order to get that game ESPECIALLY seems silly in a world of pirating, PC ports, emulators, remasters and remakes, online play possibilities, and studios buying other studios and IP's changing hands on the regular.

For me, the console I like the most is determined by how it FEELS to interact with it. I don't mean emotionally, I literally mean in the tactile sense. For me, personally, the best controller I've ever handled and spent 12+ hours at a time using without cramping or problems was the PS1 second generation dark grey dual shock controller and the PS2 DualShock 2 black controller. PlayStation 1 and 2 are among the highest selling consoles of all time for a reason. It had less to do with exclusives and more to do with UI.

Doing a gluck gluck on any console for what games it handcuffs to it is kneecapping IP growth and is on a larger scale anti-consumer and anti-choice.

People eventually realised this and that's why you can play Minecraft on anything, why it sold 300 million units, and why studios are open to sharing their franchises now. It's why Sony keeps the copyright for Spiderman, but whore it out to Disney every chance they get. Sometimes royalties and licensing rights are more economical than making a thing yourself, while still getting the credit and the fanbase loyalty.

I like that the PS3 dualshock controller became wireless. Then I liked that the PS4 dualshock had longer handles (my 39 year old hands aren't the same size as my 14 year old hands using a PS2 controller). I don't like that the PS4 controller moved the start and select buttons to make way for the light bar button and share button. Hopefully the PS6 fixes this.

It seems like PS5 is trying to do too much.

Point of diminishing returns, really.
