>RPG has a gambler class
Why is this so rare?

Final fantasy 6

Can't put gambling in stuff meant for children.

>RNG based class
>People pick classes that are more consistent
>Game puts in skills that neuter bad RNG so the gambling aspect is redundant
That's my two cents

Ideally a random class should have an above average output to make up for erratic turns. Just an issue of devs not being able to tune the numbers correctly.

This. There's also:
>players reverse engineer RNG
>this makes the class basically all upsides with zero downsides
>devs nerf the upsides
>nerfed upsides + RNG = utterly unusable for 99% of the playerbase

It would have to be completely reliant on RNG, otherwise it wouldn't be gambling.
But if it relies on RNG it's performance cannot really be manipulated by player-input in a meaningful way, making it a coin-toss whether it will be effective in whatever it is doing or not. Let's say he draws buffs or debuffs at random in the form of playing cards. Even if they are very strong, you couldn't really plan around that because rng. They would have to be so powerful that they'd turn the battle in your favor even if your gameplan doesn't really synergize with it, or be useless half the time.

I could still see merit in such a class. Imagine forcing enemies to a game of blackjack using some kind of devilish magic, and they have to place bets using their life, and if they lose the bet, they lose the amount of life.
But then you'd have to develop an entire mini-game within the game dedicated to just make a single class not suck half the time, while also staying true to its identity.

I guess making an entire game revolving around a character like that could absolutely work, but having that as part of a group is pretty difficult.

Pffft hahaha

You can plan around RNG. It’s risk management and it takes some real skill and knowledge.

This was my favorite class because the girls are hot and rng being in your favor felt good but they suck because consistency is always better.

Gadgeteer from FFTA is basically a coinflip whether your or enemy's whole party gets inflicted by ailment, barring status immunities.

They are strong though

Fuck.

Every game with a luck based class eventually turns into min maxing the activation chance so that it's so common that it isn't even RNG anymore.

Based blind gambling addict
