I really want to know how they fixed, balanced, or fixed/balanced the game around some of the shittier stars like Formula, Rocket, Bulk, and Slick. Bulk either needed a longer run time when charged AND to not lose charge in occasions like crashing or just making the charge shorter, Formula you could, as predictable as it sounds, strengthen its weaknesses a bit, but that mightnbe a biring solution. I have no clue how one would fix the Slick Star, what even is its strength? I just remember it as a slipperier Warp. I don't think there's any fixing Rex, it's design is balsnced in the sense it has a purpose as an offensive tank less than racing.

So Nintendo is absolutely participating in the trends of the buisness practices of the times, including the anticonsumer ones, and even going harder with DRM such as the remote killswitch built into each S2 system, going even beyond what Sony and MS do for their consoles.
They do it because people buy it and prove that the model will work, it will attract customers and turn profits. Ontop of saying "this system, this model is not good enough for me to invest in", not buying is my way of demanding more from the industry. I love Nintendo games. Mario Odessey was the return to SM64 I wanted so badly. Up until now I gave Pokemon chances with SwSh and ScaVi, even buying the DLC and Hone subs to keep my mons collected. They've lost me as a loyal customer because of their practices, and if we continue to enable them and their greed they'll keep pushing the envelope until they lose even more loyal customers such as yourself.

It's hard to say considering they added some new tech baked in like the special/ultimates each racer gets, but from what I've seen it definitely looks likely. The flight mechanics of the original definitely added in tech but it wasn't that difficult to understand/master imo. Also, the races are just one aspect of the game. Most people I've met have fondest memories over the city trial mode, so I would use that as a "should I buy/avoid" deciding factor personally. It has the most depth/replayability I'd argue. Shame that it's still only 1 map but oh well

Partial boosts are almost never worth it. For Air Ride, machines are unfortunately quite map dependant if you're not one of the well rounded stars. Celestial Valley for example has many grind rails and ramps, so rides that like being in the air (Wing Star, Jet Star) thrive well. Maps with minimal ramps or super sharp turns often give Swerve Star a big advantage.

I am willing to accept I may have overhyped Wheelie Scooter but it is an amazing ride, A if not S. It has amazing acceleration and control, and has the benifitie of amazing jumps. All the bikes can perform amazing horizontal trajectory speed off ramps, which can often overlook the Scooter's poor top speed, but the Scooter also has a mad verticle jumo height of ramps. Even if it doesn't glide well, it's ability to leap straight up several meters at a time is a skill no other star posses, even Dragoon. Dragoon has to jump the ramp, tilt up slightly more gradually and fly up using its glide. It comes in handy pretty often. It's my go-to, I enjoy using it more than Swerve even if I can't deny how insane Swerve is.
Base charge is, what, ten seconds? Sure it can be mitigated with powerups but that's not a reliable solution. Another problem I have with charge vehicles (it and Bulk) are the small handful of things that cause it to lose all its charge completely and force you to recharge. Crashing from being in the air is the biggest example. And unlike the Bulk, rare compliment to give, you cannot partially charge, you must commit to the full charge.
Target Flight is a similar problem to Drag Race where by the time you get going the board is already claimed. If you die in Destruction Derby you have to chsrge again when revived. It's a 9/10 star when it's moving, sometimes being too fast to control, but the charge can't be overlooked I'm afraid.

Sword may be the best power up in the game. Unlike all the others (except Mic and Tornado), Sword does not need you to hit the charge button to attack, wheras if you want to use Spike, Spark, Flame, Ice, etc you have to brake at least partially. Tornado is semi decent but doesn't autoattack, a feature that's pretty crazy to sword as even if the enemy sneaks up to you you'll auto attack them when the get to your front.

I admit that it doesn't sound plausible that they would ask HIM to do this, with Mario Kart World launching earlier this year and all. In fact I'm still stunned that Nintendo isn't sitting on this game until summer/fall of 2026 so that it performs better. This game will sell well for the next year or two as an early piece of NS2 software but whether or not it has serious legs remains to be seen. Just to add to this, Nintendo has many teams and for all their major series, they're always working on "the next one" for each sub-series. That means that a new 2D Kirby, 3D Kirby, or Kirby spinoff is ALWAYS in development at any given time. I've been waiting for a chance to talk about this game because honestly it's so fucking weird.
Hyrule Warriors was a crossover so it had lots of appealing characters. Age of Calamity was based specifically on BOTW which limits it somewhat but the champions are cool. Age of Imprisonment is based specifically on TOTK but it has no Link or anyone of note at all. It's literally just Zelda and "literally who" characters. Every single time I see trailers, I'm baffled that a game like this was even greenlit.
It feels a bit like that Bayonetta spinoff that sold like 200k in total because there was no audience for it.
If it weren't for the fact it's going to be the first new Zelda game on the Switch 2, Age of Imprisonment would have flopped for sure.

Unironically, yes, you could think of it like that. The entire TF2 design ethos is anti-competitive. That does not mean there aren't deep layers of strategy.
But back to Air Riders. One thing I don't like is that gummies don't do anything. Personally I'd have loved a system where each gummy contained something depending on the global win power of the opponent who droppped it. If there was a machine upgrade system, maybe a tiny number of parts would have been cool.

Now people are moving the goalpost with the Crystal Shards characters. With the second direct showing the rest of Kirby Air Riders' roster, I decided to make this chart of their game debuts. With Lololo & Lalala having their own series before being adopted as Kirby characters, I guess you can say they are technically the crossover characters.

Looking at this I can say Air Riders has very good representation overall, even if it’s not in form of a playable Rider it can always come in the form of music and other side content.

It's a niche spin-off of an already niche franchise, nobody cares except for die-hard Kirby fans, good for them honestly but this game was never going to move units the way Mario, Zelda or Pokemon could have, it's really quite astounding that Nintendo learned nothing from the 3DS, banking on retrocompatibility while failing to justify the new system with popular exclusives is a mistake they had already made.
Of course, now that Pokemon is on Switch the consoles are pretty much fail-proof, the only reason ZA isn't moving as many units is because it also released on Switch 1 so it isn't forcing adoption of a new system, the moment Winds and Waves goes exclusive the console's sales will skyrocket.

Well I've actually played the game and most of the tracks are pretty good. Honestly every time that game is brought up in these threads it feels forced as hell, even when CrossWorlds was pushed as the Mario Kart killer (it never was) that was also stupid but it's carved its own niche and has people who love coming back to the game. I myself will lurk both Sonic and Kirby threads and play both (I liked Mario Kart but I won't act like it didn't leave a lot to be desired), more people should be like this anon >>724175426 because each game has a different flavor of racing to offer people.
