Post your most "petty old man" vidya complaint
>>
Boomers are based when they shutdown government. They deserve to scapegoat video games and gamers for everything just because of that alone.
>>
Gameplay before story every time no exceptions
>>
Movement matters more than good positioning and aim in modern FPS.
>>

I'm tired of battle passes.
>>
>>724148089
wait a minute, does pet peeve come from petty and not from pet?
>quicktime events
>>
>>724148089
suffering builds integrity. everything is too easy and safe now
player convenience should not be excessive
it's ok to have frustrating systems and unreasonable challenges
>>
>>724148858
Petty comes from French 'Petite', meaning "Small"

'Peeve' is pure Anglo meaning "Annoyance."

Small Annoyance? Pet Shit? Maybe. But ultimately they are probably not related.
>>
>>724148089
When there's so many particle/special effects exploding on the screen all the time that you can't see the important part of what's actually happening. I have refunded games on Steam because of this.

It's similar to my complaint about FF7R: the game has 2/3 of your party running around offscreen for almost the entirety of every battle so you don't actually see what's happening with them. It's not the worst in some boss fights with only one enemy, but in fights with multiple enemies (almost every fight) it's fucking stupid.
>>
>>724148089
ADS is a shit mechanic and should only be used for guns with scopes.
>>
>>724148858
"Petty" comes from the french "Petit", meaning "small", or in this case "insiginificant", probably as a nod to a popular expression, of which someone might say that something is "petit", as in completely irrelevant, pathetic, or really not worth making a fuss about.
"Pet" comes from the Gaellic word "Peata", a term for tamed animals.
>>
>>724148089
As someone who gamed all his life, I definitely feel like an old man now. My complaint would be that you shouldn't be allowed to report other people. I'm comm banned in the game I play because you can get reported by other players.
>>
EXP All being a default setting

I hate needing Internet to play anything made or maintained in the last 16 years

You're definitely an old man, because you have no idea what you're talking about. The best game of the last 16 years doesn't need internet.

Game specific; TF2.
How hats were implemented was a mistake. Microstransactions, no matter how minute they are, are never justified, but especially when they contribute so little to the game. The playerbase has shaken off the idea that the crates are a goddamn problem and some people would rather farm items and engage with TF2 to earn a quick buck instead of actually playing the game. Look where that got the game; two third of the supposed "playerbase" are trading bots.

There were infitinely better ideas to implements hats, which in of themselves are necesarily a bad concept, but Valve went with the worst way possible - and for some reason, everybody is fine with it.
I'll be in the cold, cold ground before I buy the keys to open my crates.

Also, "X but with different stats" weapons kinda suck desu. Reskins > Paints

Yes and no. "Full" is debatable because you need the internet to get the patches.
>>

Matchmaking?
So many games being fifty hours long with RPG mechanics when they didn't need either?
Games barely looking any better but needing computers ten times as good?

This is the most evil thing in video gaming today beyond even the culture war.
>>
>>724149595
>>724149676
Isn't there a website that explicitly tests this stuff? It's pretty surprising that a lot of studios DO make sure that if you buy a disc it can play the game right out of the box. It definitely won't be the most up-to-date version but the fucker should 100% play.

>2D games are inherently superior to 3D
>a game NEEDS to inconvenience the player in order to be a truly great game, modern committee-designed games with sanded-down edges can NEVER achieve greatness

>no game should ever last more than 20 hours
>voice acted dialogue has no place in video games, period

i always thought it came from pet because you're relishing in it to some extent and nurturing it like a pet so to speak
>>
>>724148089
Open world, sandboxes and character customization are a net negative for gaming, games are much better without any of these because they try to focus too much on making everyone happy instead of providing the best possible experience for the ideal outcome of the game.
>>
>>724148858
>wait a minute, does pet peeve come from petty and not from pet?
Don't think so. Pet peeves, as I understand it at least, aren't just any minor annoyances, they're ones that are specifically yours and that are always close to your heart, like a pet is.

The game should be FINISHED on release. No, day 1 patches and planned DLC are not acceptable, and I will not purchase any game that does either. Fuck you.
While I'm at it, early access is a scam by lazy devs. Finish your fucking game before you charge people for it. Imagine if a film studio released half a movie and still sold tickets, no one would put up with it. But because it's a video game we have retards defending early access like
>its gonna get better!!
>stop hating and just play, appreciate what you have!!
Fuck off.
>>
When a support character on the radio tries to warn you about something but get's cut off because of static or something. You can often just hear the warning or at least enough to get an idea what the problem is. Our character just keeps on trucking like they couldn't make anything out though.
>>
>>724148089
Too many faggots like shitty games. We hardly ever get a real gem. When we do it gets buried under shit.
>>
>>724150282
Minecraft started the trend of early access. And, yes, gamers are sheep. If you ever see anyone praise Project Zomboid you remind them 15 years Early Access.

>printed notepad made to look like parchment

honestly yes, a printable pdf instruction manual with original artwork would be nice in the moder age. it would also remove the need for shitty ass tutorials and signposting on how basic mechanics work
>>
>>724148089
There was a time when genuine difficulty, artificial or not, was the baseline for most games. Be it an arcade game so players would shovel quarters into the machine, a console game where you were expected to master the controls before you could make any progress, or a PC game with shitty UI choices and command-prompt-like inputs.

Difficulty was very much a thing gamers were not only expected but ENCOURAGED to overcome and defeat. Anyone who was alive during this time can sit there with confidence and pride, recalling that one afternoon where they got a previously unbeaten high score, finally finished that game, didn't get killed by the fucking seaweed in TMNT for the NES, or even got through a bullshit but funny as hell game of Leisure Suit Larry. I miss those days, and they aren't coming back.

Retro pixel art indies were hit or miss, but overall they were cool and respectable.

Retro low poly indies mostly all look like garbage save for a very sparse few. And the thing about good low poly art, is that if you're good at low poly, then you're good at mid poly too, because the skills are the same. And the time difference it takes to produce mid poly to low poly is very small. With only a teensy bit more effort, you could have a much better looking game. But you deliberately make your game look worse for the aesthetic. Everyone criticizes the new Pokemon for having flat windows because they're a billion dollar corporation. But actually, giving a bit of dimension to windows is a so simple, that we should be criticizing indie developers for flat geometry too.

Can't stand in modern FE games when the characters have a quip or "badass line" when they kill someone. It comes across as really callous and makes the games feel more cartoony. If it's someone who's like an edgelord, fine, but compassionate, honourable, etc characters shouldn't do shit like that.

Games that have "runs" where what you get is random (prevent interesting gameplay, it is all about big numbers).
RPGs increasing stats. I genuinly think Skyrim would be better without the +10 you get each level. Only the equipments and skills should matter. Example that does this: STALKER.
And movementslop >>724148569
>>
>>724148569
This is wrong, coming from someone that loves surf and bhop, an FPS should focus on the gunplay first and foremost. It's the core aspect of the genre, it's in the title. Movement is important but if the guns feel shitty what's the point? Just make a mirror's edge clone
>>
games started getting too easy and handholdy during the PS2 era

I hate how tiny most text font is on most modern games, it's moronic.
I can read the average SNES dialogue box from across the room, but then something like Terraria, Doom 2016 or Alien Isolation has me squinting my eyes even when it's on my 60 inch screen. Why out of all the options modern games have actually readable text isn't more common?

Twitchy aiming, flicks, and sub-second TTK's are not fun and a magnet for cheaters.
>>
>>724148089
Too many fuckers think their shit needs rpg mechanics. I would wholeheartedly endorse Control with no reservations because I ride remedy's dick if they would only dole out your abilities at a reasonable rate over the first half of the game but instead I tell people it's only good after you've filled out most of your flying/throwing stuff/ ability tree. You want to look at how to do it correctly in a 'modern' game, look at the pacing of new moves/abilites in Evil West. You don't get smothered in them so you can actually learn each one but you're not starved of them either.
>>
>>724155218
Damn Prince of Persia fucked me up big time with that
>>
>>724155445
What if you don't play shooters? That entire genre is a magnet for cheaters. If cheating is possible, then people will do it. Cheating is for people who aren't good, and most people are not good. It's your own fault for playing those games.
If you MUST shoot people, then do it in single player. Play Stalker or some shit.
>>
Regenerating health and its consequences have been a disaster for the shooter genre.
>>
>>724148089
No microtransactions.

There are/were a few shooters with longer TTK's and windups for burst damage. You can cheat but it doesn't help that much because they're all about positioning and focus fire. One of my favorites was Fractured Space but that game is dead now.

modern games lean way too hard into visual spectacle and particle effects that they forget to make games visually readable, let alone fun. I'm here to play a videogame not watch a movie on acid.

I truly despise the people who believe in the "dollar per hour played" mentality and feel like its been a detriment to modern gaming, basically making every game open world or filled with pointless and boring bullshit just to pad playtime.

RNG does not make a game "harder", i gave up on playing xcom's Long War mod because of it lowering the hit chance of all your weapons no matter what to never go above 40%, that isn't difficulty, i could try the exact same strategy twice and have different results, you wouldn't call a slot machine "challenging" , it's a crutch because you suck at game design
tdlr any game that relies on RNG is an inherently shit game no matter what
