Knocking people out instead of killing them came with the liability that they could be found and revivedStorywise you could say its encouraged to not kill people because you're mostly breaking into and infiltrating places you're not supposed to be, and generally there's less fallout or whatnot from a bunch of people being knocked out somewhere than knifed in cold blood
>>724150040>Sneak around the map>Don't disturb anyone>Explore every corner, get in the vents and unlock some doors, even get into a locked room with my multi tool>Get 90% of the XP out of the level just by exploring>go back to the start and kill everything going loud through the front doorDo you even play the game? It's not like every playstyle doesn't want xp either. Everybody wants new toys and unlocks.
>>724158327You should get punished for playing the easy way and rewarded for playing the hard way, killing the guards makes sure their teammates wont wake them up anymore.
>>724151391literally a 4chan user
Not killing people allows you to be smug and have the moral high ground. Also Jensen can literally turn invisible so its very easy for him to just turn invisible and run by everyone to the objective in every level. You dont even have to sneak. You can run while invisible. I recall in MD the bit where you go to the hideout of the aug group and just turning on stealth and running to the leader guy in like a minute and he praised me for not killing any of his men.
>>724149773You also posted this on Reddit.https://www.reddit.com/r/ImmersiveSim/comments/1obilk9/pacifism_is_overrated/
>>724157521You get it if you take everybody out too so the 'optimal' playstyle is knocking everybody out while not getting caught. I think the ghost reward can also be buggy for some people and it's only really for some main objectives anyway whereas you're constantly rewarded for non-lethal takedowns.
>>724157521no I replayed the game this week and you still get ghost if you knock everyone out. Ghost just means you were not spotted.

>>724163272>giving you the security codes was a trap>hear voices outside your office
>>724163213dishonored was fine. you know the following I'm sure but it bears stating anyway:how it works is that there's a mechanic called "chaos" that regulates the state of the world. the higher the value, the more fucked the world gets. the game's setting is overrun with a plague of rats, and some sort of debilitating viral condition, both of which get worse as the bodies pile up, and this plays out in gameplay by having more infected zombie people and more rats in each level as chaos increases. low chaos makes the game "easier" and by that I mean you have to deal with less of the aforementioned. the game doesn't punish you for being violent, you can kill quite a lot of people before the chaos gets high enough to start negatively impacting the world, but even if you want to be as violent as possible, it's still not difficult to deal with these things, but you'll still hear people complain about it. the other thing that people complain about is that the ending, which changes depending on your level of chaos. you get the "bad" ending if you go bloody ghost madman assassin, but both endings are just stock footage over a pre-rendered video that tells you how shit went down, so I don't know what people are upset about.the game was short so at least it gave you reason to play through twice and see both good and bad endings.
>>724163732Yeah, makes me wonder how the second one works. I didn't think I got the worst ending or anything, I just thought I had affected it by gibbing so many people. Never noticed more crackheads and rats. Wonder if killing those helped lol

>>724174475I mean, you're literally feeding the plaguebearers at that point. Chaos also isn't just the plague but how the overall city is handling things. Feeding a guard to the rats means there's one less person enforcing quarantines and the other guards who find him and hear about it (or just think he disappeared on duty) are more terrified and paranoid. Regardless, if you're going into high chaos because you keep leaving unconscious people out to die then you're doing it on purpose and shouldn't really be surprised when the game rightfully treats it like you killing them. >>724175885challenging stealth sucks, stealth games always break down into slapstick comedy appeal because legitimate anti-stealth AI and tactics would make the games unplayable
>>724174371>In HR and MD enemies can wake up their friends and put them back into the fight if you knock them outThis is rarely ever an issue in stealth games unless you're just lazy about hiding bodies. MGS is the only stealth game I've ever played where leaving unconscious guards around is a real concern and that's just because they wake up on their own rather than because people find them. That's not remotely good enough justification to punish an alternative playstyle and, even if it was, the punishment is still incredibly heavy-handed and mechanically dissatisfying while also encouraging gamey minmaxing from players doing the optimal playstyle rather than creative solutions in a genre and a series that's all about rewarding player creativity. The XP system in HR fucking sucks.

>>724177393And, as has already been stated, it's a bad feeling regardless of whether or not you need it. The game isn't that hard to begin with. You don't 'need' any real upgrades. But people like progression in their RPGs and they like getting new options and toys. Game mechanics are not exclusively about what the player needs. And the perspective that a stealth/hacker player actually needs the xp is even worse because you're pigeonholing them into that playstyle for the entire game and heavily discouraging them from doing anything else.

Nonlethal in HR/MD is comical. Most are silent by default.Drop nonboss mooks in one shot regardless of where you hit, even augmented giganiggas.Gives you bonus experienceThe ammo is as plentiful as anything else.Enemies can pick each other back up, sure, but that just lets you bait everyone into a instadrop taze killzone. It's obvious how grossly over-favored it was by the developers.
>>724179731Next time you can just type "Oh, I see your point, I didn't think of it like that" but it's okay, I know what you're trying to say.
>>724180839>Drop nonboss mooks in one shotStungun yes, Tranq rifle no>the ammo is plentifulNot even slightlyThe stun gun is too short range, the tranq rifle is too long range. There's no middle option. The upgrades for both guns suck. Gas grenades are rare, gas mines are a meme like all other mines. They all continue to be clumsy the entire game through. Now, if you took a 10mm Pistol you could have it as a silent one-shot perfect aim headshotting machine with hundreds of rounds that will last until Omega Ranch before you've even done half of Detroit. >>724181753>>724182184people were butthurt about this character being so problematic back in 2011.
>>724150040Makes perfect sense that stealth is preferred in this game. You're supposed to be corporate muscle keeping your activities low-profile to avoid PR shitstorms for your company.
>>724182559And it was released nowadays it would look like they went through a checklist of things that would make leftists mad and then get their offices set ablaze
>>724182670murdering terrorists doesn't sound like bad PR
>>724149773It's the forced two-sides approach. Some times with hilarious when one side is clearly the good ones but the writers feel the need to make both sides "valid". WoW.
>>724183827One mans terrorist is another mans hero.Pretty sure people would be pissed off if Sarif was having boats blown up in the ocean.
>>724149773we must be better glowies
>>724150558The only correct response and way to play these games. Killing people in the open would be a PR nightmare, land you in jail or worse, killed. You do everything in the shadows, it's how power works anyways, and if you see/find murderers, cop killers, drug dealers, you use lethality without anyone knowing.
is wrong or right?
>>724186034If you study history, especially military history, you will come to the same realization that to become great and hold power, you eventually have to surpass good and evil/morality. Just to piss people, yes Nietzsche talked about this.
>>724180839>>724181443I have no idea how people use the tranq rifle on HR, that thing has such a ridiculous bullet drop and the bullet is really slow too. It's so bad that even the special upgrade for the gun sight miscalculates the darts trajectory. I just gave up and did body shots with that crap. Meanwhile on MD it's overpowered as fuck.
>>724186034He is right, but the morally bankrupt very often use this as a justification to indulge the abuse of power and personal spite, he himself is among the ranks of those as he subjected Adam to modifications that were excessive and unnecessary to secure his survival, turning him into a corporate nugget that he owns.
>>724150558I like how you separate innocents from cops
If Pritchard had been in MD we'd have had our third game by now.
>>724188101he was in the dlc doesn't that count?
>>724150040Always remember, Adam Jensen is a merciful soul
>>724188701>>724150040Code of conduct. He was a cop once. He also has a degree in criminal justice.
>>724188441No
>>724150302>>724150348>>724158327Adam gets less xp when shooting and doing lethal because he was in SWAT and already had all the experience that entails.Non-lethal and stealth are new to him, and so are his augmentations.
>>724186034right or wrong?
>>724188441The worst DLC. Fuck Breach.
>>724189042Git gud.
>>724188701Not really.
>>724151738>He and Malik are the only ones not lying to Jensen or using himShe ate my fucking cereal.
>>724151391Pritchard is ass blasted that chad Jenson fucked stacy Megan Reed. That's it, that's the true root of the tension.
>>724189670Pretty sure everyone fucked Megan.
>>724182184Bro its Detroit.
>>724189795Realistically depicting Detroit in a game today would be considered a hate crime.
>>724189484>AAIEEE
>>724150816>using boxes and shit to push NPC patrols togethernew imsim metric just dropped
>>724189042The DLC has next to nothing to do with Breach
>>724190485Except the whole Breach mode.
>>724189892wouldnt that be culturally diverse? or does that only count if you take vikings or romans and put folx in color in there because depicting their own culture is racist somehow?
>>724160728okay, thanks for sharing.
>>724190526It has as much Breach as the base game
>>724162545yeah... well, sorry anon. Maybe with AI some day
>>724174453>mankind divided really opens up when you fully explore itI wanted to chill and explore and treat the city like a play box, but the storyline of "there was a bombing and theres probably another one coming if you dont catch them!" means you can't do anything but the main quest if you take the game seriously
>>724179120in Skyrim you can resurrect dead bodies as zombie allies, then grind your Flame Hands skill on them
>>724191492That's broken
>>724149773What's the ratio of games that punish you for killing people as opposed to games that punish you for NOT killing people?
