The remake has obvious advantages over the original, at least in the graphics and presentation department. It also brings probably the best NG+ system ever made, tedious garbage doesn't need to be completed again, you can redo quests if you wish to, and you jump to any chapter with preset dialogue choices, it's kino.In terms of music, it's a tossup, do you prefer midislop or orchestralslop?For combat, the remakes are obviously better, and you have to be retarded to think otherwise. Do any other games out there have this kind of hybrid TB/Action combat?As far as the plot goes, I believe it's waaay easier to get into it with the original game. Not as much crazy retarded shit, and it isn't padded to fuck and beyond like the remakes.The reasons to play the original essentially boil down to the preference of a better plot (R3 could improve here), nostalgia, and the fact that it isn't super fucking padded.

It’s a sequel, so it’s not a fair comparison. I mean, of course the combat is way better, but there’s a lot of things the original does great. There’s a reason why it’s so beloved to this day.But I think OG, Remake and Rebirth are all great as part of a series. Ignore everything else except Advent Children.

This trilogy is everything wrong with the FF7 extended universe all in one package: The inclination to subvert and change things that were perfectly fine. Forcibly adding in a bunch of shit from the other spinoffs to sell more products. Feeling like they are above the source material. Borderline false marketing with the Remake Part 1's rug pull. Selling the game in pieces, with hours of filler added that ruins the pacing to make it seem "worth it". Changing character personalities to be more align with their extended universe versions.And I even like the new combat. It's the best version of Square trying to make FF combat real time while still feeling like a FF game. The hybrid ATB system is great. But it's in service of such a foul product, and even then it's not perfect. Every boss fight being interrupted with cutscenes and health bar limits is lame as fuck. It changes repeat playthroughs (something these game WANT you to do with hard mode) into a chore.
