XCOM 3 when?
>>
>>724154994
Never.
>>
>>724154994
Best Firaxis can give you is a Xcom reboot remake and somehow they'll manage to dumb it down further and ruin the atmosphere and art.

Give me suggestions for game mechanics etc, and I'll pass them on for you.
>>
>>724154994
i don't want firaxis to make any more games
>>
>>724156983
I just want action points for movement. And actual ballistics, holy shit.
>>
>Firaxis make XCOM2
>sells well but not well enough to recoup production and advertising budgets
>2K demands that the next XCOM be more profitable after WOTC and the other DLC for 2 only just covered their costs.
>next is fucking Chimera Squad that bombed because it looked like rancid shit nobody wanted to suffer through.
>"don't worry dear publisher, our Marvel™ strategy game Midnight Suns™ will turn things around provided that you invest heavily in advertising it!"
>2K do not invest heavily in advertising
>Midnight Suns proves marginally profitable only after all planned DLC is finished
>"2K, give us money to make XCOM3 now please!"
>"no."

Firaxis are permanently the Civilisation™ company now, until they get bought which won't be too long if the new one doesn't exceed profit expectations.

Shame that Phoenix Point is shit
>>
>>724157302
You forgot the biggest part, that Jake left after Midnight Suns flopped and won't be making new strategy games.
>>
Never. XCOM 2 and the spinoff didn't make buy-another-superyacht-tier money so Firaxis doesn't get the funding to make another.
>>
>>724157615
I'll never forgive Gollop. Worst thing is, the alpha had potential and they fucked up.
>>
>>724154994
Hopefully never
>>
>>724154994
The dev responsible for nuXCOM left a couple years ago. It ain't happening Chief.
>>
>>724154994
Alien invaders are NOT your enemies, goy.
>>
>>724157615
He had some good ideas but god damn that artstyle alone was enough to make me throw up. It was nothing like the early teaser trailer.
>>
>>724157832
Hey at least Gollop is working on the Frosthaven digital version. So there will be a strategy fix there. The game is friendslop however

It's quite enjoyable actually. nuxcom babbies just cant adapt.
>>
>>724154994
Never. And even if we got it, it would be turbo garbage. They'd probably do something as retarded as make it an rts
>>
>>724158019
Horrible pace. DLC makes the game worse. Bugged and janky. Horrible art and writing.
It's not what it was selling at the crowfunding.
>>
>>724154994
After civ 7? They dont have the money.
>>
>>724154994
I wish there were more turn-based spectacle games. It's hard to replace that feeling you get bringing along 2 grenadiers armed to the teeth with grenades and rockets laying waste to the area, or watching a beserker/sectopod/andromedon start barreling through the area or violently exploding, destroying walls and floor and leaving fire and destruction everywhere.
>>
>>724158203
Like Apocalypse?
>>
Never. You didn't buy and/or like Chimera Squad enough.
>>
>>724157302
No way X Com 2 didnt money. I think its heavily over rated and nobody plays tactical RPGs but I still dont believe you.
>>

Unironically never.
>First game was a financial flop because they spent years remaking the first game, nearly finished it, then Jake Solomon said "I don't like this" before redoing the entire game from the ground up in what's now known as the Firaxis XCOM style.
>Expansion was released to recoup losses with mixed reception as some people were happy to have more in a barren game while others thought the mechanics were ass
>Sequel comes out, using the same engine and lots of asset flips
>Is an enormous financial flop compared to the first game
>Mobile spinoff comes out to see if they can afford to make extremely low budget titles, flops
>"XCOM team" gets sent to work on a Marvel game after shelving the IP as Firaxis thinks that XCOM just doesn't sell
>Creates yet another flop, entire team disbanded
>IP is permanently shelved
It's never going to happen.
>>
>>724158019
I hope you enjoy aiming at an enemy that your soldier can "see", then realizing you can technically see 5 pixels of a claw or leg, then cancelling the attack command so the enemy continues its animation and sticks out one of their limbs far enough so you can actually hit it. Because you'll be doing that a lot.

It also feels very generic (art, writing, tactical maps) and the balance and progression isn't great. Also very buggy but maybe they fixed that meanwhile
>>
>>724158019
It's pretty good. Not casual enough for nu/v/ faggots who only play Xcom 2 autistically over and over again because that's literally the hardest game they're able to play

>>
>>724158434
why would anyone want xcom3, everyone responsible for xcom1/2 left the company and current firaxis is just HR and incompetent diversity hires, do u want another civ7 repeat but with xcom3, killing the franchise for 30years? Just fucking play modded xcom2
>>
XCOM 2 was 10 years ago
>>
Do you really want an XCOM3 after you've seen the Chimera spinoff or whatever the fuck it was called?

There's no talent left in that studio.
>>
>>724158434
how is 2 a flop? it apparently sold 4 million units, 500k of which were in the first week
>>
XCOM3 after Chimera squad: you command the United Earth Police Forces that hunts human who dare to question our values such as "Diversity is our strength".
Obviously your squad consists of alien units only.
>>
>>724154994
Thankfully never. Marvel Midnight Suns needs a sequel though.
>>
>>724159020
Lot less than I would have thought. Civ 6 at 11m.
>>
>>724158998
the weird thing about chimera squad is the concept is solid as fuck, a blend of xcom and swat with cool ghost in the shell type stuff in it would be amazing
>>
>>724158591
You're a cunt, but I acknowledge that I'm a faggot fuck today, so I'll rewrite the first line as it's a whole story in itself:
>First Firaxis-released XCOM was a financial flop because they spent years remaking the original UFO Defense
>Jake Solomon, the lead designer for Firaxis XCOM and self-proclaimed fan of the original UFO Defense, states that the game they are making isn't fun
>Jake Solomon went to Sid Meier after office hours and begged Sid Meier to take over the project
>Sid Meier refused because he thinks the company needs to learn to make games without him
>Jake Solomon comes to Sid Meier's office after hours every day for a week to play tabletop games to come up with ideas as they use pocket lint, coins, and office supplies on a piece of grid paper to come up with new mechanics
>Jake Solomon takes all of these ideas and brings them to XCOM
And that's why Firaxis' XCOM: Enemy Unknown turned out to be a near direct copy of common D&D/D20 rules, including move action/standard action/swift action/free action, and even using the same percent values for using cover.
The funny thing is, this isn't conjecture. On XCOM's release in 2012, Jake Solomon did a ton of interviews to hype the game (and a release day video where he walked around Gamestop stores trying to get console gamers to buy XCOM because "it's kind of like gears of war"). This process was rather transparent because of his interviews.

>>724159020
Take-Two states that it was a flop. We can discuss what we think the development cost and revenue would be and why we think it is or isn't a success, but the people who own the studio said it flopped.
>>
>>724154994
In my fucking dreams.
Actually, saying that, I didn't enjoy XCOM 2 as much. The gameplay was mostly superior, but the vibes completely changed. And also the soundtrack was better in XCOM:EU.
I think I'd rather have another reboot or some other company makes a decent clone (not Xenonauts)
I enjoyed it much more when it was the start of the alien invasion and nobody knew what the fuck was going on. Vibes unmatched. Then in XCOM 2 it's just some retarded rebellion against the oppressor type cliché, where XCOM 1 didn't matter because you lost, where a lot of enemies are humanoids now and the most powerful enemies for whatever reason talk to you in English and taunt you as if they aren't vastly superior lifeforms. They can't really make an XCOM 3 with this in mind.

It needs another reboot.
>>
>>724159236
>>724159182
if taketwo/firaxis seriously thought a turn based tactics game was going to be a hit with normies like civ6 they're delusional. no wonder jake quit

Its an exception, it was fraudulently attached to legendary franchise (while having very little to do it), had very lucky timing and got ridiculously good word of mouth marketing because it was a decent CRPG in a time where every AAA release was steaming pile of shit.

but bg3 is much more narrative and character driven. i guess retarded game executives can't tell the difference though

Final expansion and update for 2 then it needs a reboot. The first one launched among brown and bloom games so it stood out with its own saturday cartoons style. Now, they need to do the opposite and make it gritty.
>>
>>724161216
PREPARE TO WRITE DOWN THE RECIPE
>>
>>724154994
Hopefully never.
After Chimera squad and the Chosen DLC I have no faith that the devs can pull off another competent XCOM game.
>>
>>724154994
Literally never
The studio is basically dead
The xcom team either decided to or were forced to make some marvelslop piece of shit then proceeded to immediately dissolve
All that's left is the civ team and that's probably getting the axe soon too with how civ is going.

The good news is that there are a billion decent clones nowadays, they are not quite as good unless you're really into the specific theme each is going for - like a 40k fanboy with Daemonhunters or something - but there's bound to eventually be a worthy successor to the series because the interest is there and the developers in this genre tend to be white.

>XCOM 3 when?
I don't really know where'd they go from 2, I know the ending didn't tie everything off but I don't see how they could do anything with a sequel that wasn't just
>Ethereals are back at Earth
Also, they'd need an entire new retinue of ayy slaves to keep gameplay interesting.

I know Chimera Squad gets tons of hate, but I did like the concept. I wouldn't mind if XCOM 3 focused on humans and ayys having to live together in an uneasy partnership just out of need. It would be interesting if we saw a campaign where a sort of council of all the ayys and humans created a UN of sorts where they combatted threats like terror/supremacist groups of various ayys and humans that popped up. We could see certain events that would make like the Sectoids or Mutons drop out of the council, and then you don't get anymore Sectoid or Muton soldiers and lose your current ones.

I loved Xcom 1 but hated 2

What games should I try?
>>
>>724164204
Do the exact opposite of this.
>game has 5000 weapons and armors
>only want to use 5 because the rest are dogshit cope
>even the weapons designed for quirky characters with unfortunate stat spreads are dogshit because everyone instantly lines up to the same fucking stats anyway
>which means that in a game where 99% of the missions are just timesinks, only 1% of your finds in the last 1% of the missions will even be interesting or worthwhile
>the primary draw of the mod is the cute anime girls people post all over their discord, but the in-game girls are all disgusting haggard mutants that look straight out of Veilguard
If you want an OpenXcom mod to look toward, use virtually anything else at all.
