what's your favorite adventure game
>>724161009day of the tentacle
>>724161009Stasis or Ben There Dan That.
>>724161009Broken Sword 2. I must've finished it and the first one over a dozen times.
>>724161009zak mckracken
>>724161009There are a lot I like but I guess grim fandango gets the prize
I know it's very archaic compared to pretty much everything that came after it, but I still love Maniac Mansion. It's more open-ended design and alternate story paths from playing different characters was really ambitious and something rarely attempted by other adventure games. Even Day of Tentacle is nothing like it despite being a sequel. Though I still can't deny that the Indiana Jones adventure games topped Maniac Mansion in how they handle alternate paths. Those are a close second I think.
>>724162191I simply could not into the NES version but I blame that on the controller and graphics. Will try on pc. For me? You're asking me? Lotta nerve to ask me after the accident. For me it's Spongebob Squarepants: Employee of the Month.
>>724161329>five games in the series with a sixth one announcedYou'd think they'd have fixed the sword by now.
>>724161009Kyrandia.I also want to recommend two small simple games of Nelly Cootalot.
>>724163029It is possible (though not simple) to run the NES version in scummvm for mouse and keyboard support. Though unless you really need the music, you should just play the DOS v2 version. It's got updated graphics and it goes without saying that it has none of the censorship the NES version has.
>>724161009This exact screen is the moment I dropped Monkey Island forever when I finally gave up and looked up the guide and saw the way in to the temple was a pixel hunt on one of the pillars which actually had a hidden lever sticking out of it. I was so angry and offended that it was the solution I refused to continue playing after that point and I'd laboriously made it that far on my own too
>>724161009Discworld 1
>>724161596original or remake?
Does anyone know if The Longest Journey is worth sticking out? I love the semi cyberpunk city parts to death but always drop the game at the fantasy sections. There's also like four more games and that makes me want to keep playing.
>>724161009Discworld 2
>>724161009Indiana Jones Fate of Atlantis
>>724161009Fuck you and fuck your moon logic
>>724161009Discworld Noir. Checks my two favorite boxes, and even Pratchett himself apparently liked it.
>>724163615Wet fart of an ending. Never played the sequels. My child self is still mad that she never got naked like the previous guardian because lmao whoops she was never meant to be the next guardian to begin with
>>724161009Other anons will probably mention all my favorites (someone already posted Grim Fandango), so here's my favorite underdog.
>>724161009Nekopara :3
>>724163650I kept breaking something and it would warp me to the final act without any of the things needed to beat the final act
>>724163708Literally no moon logic. Even the infamous monkey wrench puzzle in 2 made sense if you were the intended audience.
The Drifter was very good
>>724164336Damn. May stick it out anyway cause I think I've started it like 5 times over the last decade. >>724165328I loved this one. Gorgeous art. Got filtered by some puzzle near the very end. Some autistic impulse made me allergic to looking up the solution so I never finished it.
Any recommendations for someone who is bad at moon logic and is kind of impatient. I have played>Monkey Island>Games by Double Fine>The Drifter>The Darkside Detective (too simple)
>>724167538Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is always a good experience
>>724167538I think Broken Sword 1 I remember rarely getting stuck. Never played the others. Also SPONGEBOB EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH BABYYY. Only if you're a fan of old Spongebob. Humor is really good.
>>724161009Conquests of the Longbow. It's got some issues but I really love it.
>>724161009Grim fandango is the absolute peak
>>724164336I liked the ending. It's one of those games were you have to talk with people to get all the hints.
>>724169586grim.... fandango
>>724161596>uncensored bare feetMODS
>>724161009Unteralterbach
>>724166008NTA but I remember some key item being behind an opened door you had to close to look behind that wasn't there before, that pissed me off
The Journey Down was also an enjoyable experience.
>>724161009Colonel's Bequest
książe i tchórz a.k.a. galador the prince and the cowardit's far from the best point'n'click in the world, but i have warm memories of playing it and the art is beautiful so it's my favourite one
How do you guys play these games without a CRT monitor and no decent dosbox fork that does filters and resizing well? They look awful on a 1080p display.
>>724167538Wadjet Eye Games have no moon logic.
>>724170454In 2, you had the laundry claim check in Largo's room, but that's not moon logic. It's just paying attention.>why is this door able to be closed when most aren't? let's find out
indiana jones and the fate of atlantis
>>724171316Noticing a single door can be closed when every other one cannot and hiding something behind it is pretty moon, or at the very least akin to "try everything on everything" brute forcing.
>>724161009Sam & Max Hit the Road
>>724161009For me, it's the official Czech localisation of Teenagent with better jokes.
>>724171423I'm pretty sure that if hang around in Largo's room for too long he shows up and closes the door so you can see that there's something on the door.
>>724171423It's a rule in adventure games to sweep your cursor around and find out what can be interacted with. Maybe immersive sims are more your speed, brainlet.
>>724170809First of all, i DO have CRT monitor. But even if i wouldn't there is always ShaderGlass for filters (and magnifying small windows properly). And, of course, you don't these games in fullscreen on 1080, do you?
>>724170743Love that one, you played the crimson diamond yet?
>>724172436ShaderGlass doesn't let you fullscreen>you don't these games in fullscreen on 1080, do you?of course I do, what the fuck else am I supposed to do, have a window surrounded by inky black darkness with Windows borders breaking my immersion?
>>724171423At that point you already know that you can close the door. You need to do the whole bucket on a door thing for the laundry claim check to even spawn and you need to close the door for that.
>>724170743I played Dagger of Amon Ra a billion times but never played the first one.
>>724172670Yea but why would you think to check behind the door a second time?
>>724172516>have a window surrounded by inky black darkness with Windows borders breaking my immersion? As opposed to have the picture being surrounded by monitor's physical borders? Anyway, there is always WindowBlinds. Yes, crack exists.
>>724172806You know that you need the ticket and it's most likely in his room. Naturally you would go through his room with a fine-tooth comb.
>>724172905gib crack pl0x
>>724161009The quest for the holy grail, but I'm not big fan of point and click adventures. Also liked Secret Files series. Any recommendation for 2d or 3d adventure game that can be played with controller?
>>724161009Either Runaway 2 or Broken Sword 1, purely 'cause of nostalgia. Objectively I'd say Grim Fandango is the height of the genre in presentation and snappy writing.
Quest for Glory. All of them are great in my opinion, even 5, but if I have to choose it's a tie between 2 and 4.And if I have to choose between 2 and 4, it's 2.
>>724173115Not that hard to find. It exists in the Sea Plunderer's Creek. 11.04 (that can even be updated up to 11.06).
>>724171316The fucking finger game password was moon logic. "What do you mean you're unfamiliar with a game my brother made up when we were kids?"
>>724173649It's a joke puzzle and you can only beat it by savescumming. I figured that out when I was like 10.

>>724174147That fucking dice game was so much bullshit.
>>724173909If I recall the guide I looked at said just to answer with whatever number they show first. I don't know if I got lucky or what but it worked for me first try.

What are some good adventure games for general lewdness? Already know about Leisure Suit Larry, >>724171737 and pic related.
>>724174495That is the answer, it's whatever he threw up first. The solution is stupid because the puzzle itself makes no fucking sense. There's no clue or way to learn how it works, you're just expected to be familiar with a game Ron Gilbert's brother made up as a child.
>>724175063Les ManleyLeather Goddesses of PhobosSpellcasting
>>724174495That's 100% it. After a few tries, you realize the guy is always answering with the first number shown.
>>724175109Or you just don't give a shit and savescum, like a normal person would.
>>724174880Absolutely. Too bad Skullmonkeys weren't on PC, Armikrog is a tad bit bland and THE REST OF THE HUGEFUCK LORE had never been made into games.
>>724175109It has been a while since I played it. But isn't there an NPC who always answers the question correctly? You could solve the puzzle by watching the signs and what he answers.
>>724172413It's a rule in bad adventure games. Pixelhunting is widely acknowledged to be cancer with modern adventure games doing their best to combat it.
sometimes adventure game puzzles have the opposite problem of moon logic, the game normally swatting away any solution that's the slightest bit sloppy or requiring brute force but then for one puzzle it makes an exception where a highly impractical but technically possible solution is fine, close enough. the infuriating thing will be that you're likely to immediately consider the solution but then not even bother attempting it because you know the game would never recognize something that's even slightly a reach.
>>724175063Bazooka Sue needs a translation asap
>>724161009Is it true these old point and click adventure games would hard-lock you if you missed stuff 40 hours earlier?
>>724175863Not really. Older Sierra games would do that constantly, but they used the parser. The only point and click game that I can think of that would lock you like that was KQ5.
>>724175863Only Sierra games and that one that HR Geiger did.
>>724172516>ShaderGlass doesn't let you fullscreen

>>724175480they do show someone getting through the puzzle but the issue is when you try to get in they always ask you a different question. Seeing someone answer correctly once is not enough information to answer all variations.
>>724176426He does it infinitely until you figure it out.
>>724176351It's easy to say that they fucked up in hindsight. But you have to remember that they pretty much invented the whole genre. Nobody had any idea how to make a good adventure game. In interviews etc the old Sierra devs have said that they didn't think that dead ends were bad because it was perfectly normal to start the whole game over if you fucked up.
>>724176557Would the player be told they had fucked up though? Also a question of how long the game is.
Those EGA games have still lots of charm.
My top 3 are Monkey Island 2, LOOM, and Season 3 of Telltale's Sam & Max.
>>724161329Hell yeah. I loved that one. I played the shitty PS1 version on a controller too.
>>724176820I seem to remember liking season 3 of Sam and Max the least. Can't really remember why though.
>>724177202I thought Seasons 1 & 2 were just okay, Season 3 was when it really hit its stride and became something incredible.

>>724161009LOOM, now and forever.

Is Unavowed any good?
i think the first monkey island kinda sucks but the sword fighting puzzle is still the best puzzle of any game.
Primordia really reminded me a lot of Beneath a Steel Sky which is one of my favorites.
>>724161596feet
I overall prefer the sequel, but just look at that fucking cover art.First game has a lot more somber atmosphere and traversal through the beautiful pixelart world.Sequel is a lot more direct with more different settings, edgy jokes, and memorable characters. Ending kinda sucked, but I don't really mind. I miss the beautiful pixel art in modern games.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky5m9DuWs7Q
>>724190930I wish they'd make a third one in the pixel style, but instead we got that horrible 3D PS1 slop and a german like fan reboot that will 100% miss the point like those two Larry games.

>>724191501Only about 15 points.
>>724191432I got bored with "the longest journey."I think the reason was the female protagonist, and that I learned that in the sequels characters verbally say to be homosexual and they repeat it.

>>724191215The second, while having great aesthetics, is pretty much the trope incarnated when it comes to pixelhunting and crazy combination of item usages, but it's kind part of the charm. What really baffles me is that there were two more games after the abomination that was the third. Never even looked at any gameplay since the style just looked uncanny to me from the screenshots I've seen. Also while looking for the cover and gameplay footage, I was bombarded with a prequel game releasing in two days. While they at least moved away from 3D, it still looks kinda meh. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1939890/Simon_the_Sorcerer_Origins/
