I feel like Undying fits the bill for a spooky month game pretty well. A lot of varied, traditionally spook locations, a lot of pagan-like themes and playing it just gives you that feeling of a chilly autumn night.

>>724179136I was hesitant about that too but it works really well in practice. Dying keeps you on the edge because the rooms and enemies change but it's still easy to get back to important areas. Also unlike other games I don't end up hoarding items because you never know when you're gonna die and lose most of your shit.

Bought Somber Echoes on sale and 100% it in just a couple of days. It’s a surprisingly spoopy Metroidvania. A bit janky at times, but a lot of fun. The map system is excellent: it marks all locations for you, and you can even rename rooms and place markers (though I never really felt the need to).The story was pretty decent too, but where it really shines is in the combat and movement. There’s no double jump. Instead, you eventually unlock three dash-teleporter thingies that let you launch yourself in different directions. A lot of puzzles revolve around this mechanic. The highlight of the combat is the spear. You can throw it and later learn to call it back. It’s incredibly satisfying to pin enemies to walls or one-shot them from a distance.Good music and atmosphere too.
