The best enjoyment I got from gaming in 2025 was not from Steam, Switch 2, or GOG. it was from going to the archives and finding PC ports of Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders, Mass Effect 1 and 2, and Silent Hill 2.All of these games have mods that make them nicer to play on a modern PC. I used my Xbox Series Elite controller for some of them, and it was much comfier than most of the corposlop they've actually released recently. What are some of /v/s favorite games not on consoles or Steam/GOG type storefronts?
>>724181594Archive.org is great for finding games preset with mods. I found GTA San Andreas for PC.
>>724181594I really miss launchers. It's hard to describe, but they made games feel more like events than they do now, and obviously more independent, which expressed more of a vision and the creators' passion. Take how the interface is a simplified analogue to the in-game interface, for example.I recently played Diablo 1 for the first time. It's orders of magnitude better than all its successors.
how do you find games that are fully modded?
>>724181594wouldnt the newer ports be better especially if youre on powerful modern hardware ?
>>724182495i hate launchers.
>>724181594Is there a mod to make Sonic Riders not suck ass and half the levels not guard railless floating platforms with the shittiest turning handling known to man?
>>724184646They don't run in the background like modern browser-based storefronts, provide a user-friendly hub for the game's resources, let you configure it without launching or screwing with .inis, and 9/10 times you can skip them simply by selecting the main executable anyways. You have literally no reason to dislike them.
enjoy your malware
>>724181594The PunisherBe sure to grab the mods to enable widescreen and uncensor the executions.https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Punisher_(2005)
