LoI just needed to have a proper 3D map and stage design. The skeleton of it was solid, but it lacked meat on the bone. It was a CV game yet you'd think the inclusion of a jump button was an afterthought with how much the game was centered on fighting mobs on a flat plane, like some belt scrolling bmup. The combat itself was fine, there just needed to be more "game" there. It's actually kind of sad to think about because I still remember some of the hype, the positive press it got at trade shows prior to release, all the goodwill built up from critically well received portable games. But then they blew it.

Is there any 3D Castlevania that doesn't suck?

Juste please. We're being serious here.

I think they should do a new 2D/2.5D game to establish the fundamental elements of the series again. Belmont vs Dracula. Maybe make it a Simon's Quest remake or sequel, since the series did begin with Simon.
>>
When you think about it, to this day, not a lot of 3D games integrate platforming with action combat as seamlessly as would befit a Castlevania game. It's usually instanced between one or the other, like in hack-and-slash games. Even the 64 games that come the closest to getting that balance "right" relegate a lot of their encounters to cannon fodder that feels like busywork.

Start by ripping off this game's map format the way the 2D games did SM.

Would the timeline get messed up if Sonia gets reintroduced? I'd like to see her game receive the same treatment as Rebirth and Haunted Castle Revisited

A simon's quest remake would be really interesting

>>724183921
Hire the people who made Hollow Knight.
>>
>>724183921
Whatever it is it should NOT be a Metroidvania. It should be a great looking 2d game with distinct LEVELS. You play from one side to the other and get to the end and fight the boss.
>>
>>724192532
ok, empty open world 3d remake of simon's quest with belmont constantly giving hints and quips a la modern gaming protagonist, except they are just as cryptic as the original translation and don't make sense so he sounds like a schizo rambling to himself.
>>
>>724192602
As long as that doesn't include the composer, sure
>>
>>724183921
Bloodborne already did the homework Konami just had to not be retards and copy them but add more whip combat.
>>
>>724192532
I would like this very much because I am currently playing it and I want to love it but can't because of the little things. I don't like grinding hearts to purchase every item when I enter a new town. Having to wait till morning to access npcs is annoying. And I really don't like using holy water to break blocks. I am always spamming it everywhere I go just in case there is something hidden. Too much backtracking too.

Is very different from all the others.

>Mmm, yes, the graveyard duck must be just ahead.
>It's too wet here, I should replenish my earth.
>That old gypsy has my diamond!

I actually kind of like the idea of Simon being an unreliable narrator because the curse has driven him mad.
>>
I'd make it open world and add a dodge button
>>
>>724183921
I think they sould do another re-boot. Continuing Iga's timeline without IGA doesn't seem right to me. The timeline itself is pretty much filled up, with the only gap being Castlevania 1999, which I feel works better as an unseen event.
>>
Just tell the events of Simon's game as a 3D Metroidvania. That way you don't have to really alter canon and there isn't a need for a strong story presence. Then have a True Ending condition that results in the second half of the game opening up and it's Simon's Quest.

By making more about souls... perhaps a souls-like even...
>>
A revival would be tough. Konami of course is big on remakes right now, so a 2.5D SotN remake might be a thing, but since its not 3D they wouldn't be able to market it as a AAA product. Metroidvanias in general are an oversaturated and super competitive market, and level-based action platformers are not that far behind. And of course Castlevania never established a solid 3D formula. So its just a far riskier proposition for Konami than SH and MG were.

If it were to happen, >>724196347 is basically the closest thing to a 3D classicvania ever, and would be good inspiration. Of course, nowadays soulslike players hate Demon's Souls for all the things that make it CV-like (linearity, stiffness, levels being meaningful and not just filler between le epic boss fights)

the mercurysteam game was the shit and anybody who thinks otherwise is a nostalgia-cucked faggot.

I don't think CV64 is very good but I love how the whip works, the way it auto-targets within a radius and only strikes once. I'd love an open Metroid-y 3D game that had the balls not to be combo slop and incorporated a similar primary attack.

The first Lords of Shadow is decent. It's a mixed bag, though
>>
>>724189518

And followed it up with Curse of Darkness. The Alucard game would have been garbage too.
>that quote from Igarashi at the bottom
I've grown to despise that hack.

There's no cap on the success of a game like that. Hollow Knight is 2d and has outsold most AAA games
>>
I feel like everyone saying "just make it like Souls" is missing the plot because all that does is give the games a skeleton which the 3D installments have never actually lacked. They've all had decent engines and combat. What's been lacking (or in CoD's case outright missing) every time is level design.

we don't need anymore rollslop
