But if you've listened to a lot of music, it'll probably taste like water to you.Artists consider something genius when it somehow sounds both new and good at the same time and this is usually achieved by getting lucky - or just doing everything "right" with one exception, one little oddity that adds a unique taste to the work you weren't expecting. If you watch YouTube videos of composers reacting to video game sound tracks or fan requests or whatever, you'll notice they focus on what sounds like the most random shit, but it's because they're pointing out what about the song sounds actually different and isn't just typical, by the book, music theory.And this is why /v/ means when they talk about soul. They're talking about all these little odd (but not necessarily bad) choices made by the game developer. Sometimes it's because the developer is just eccentric, but usually it's due to limitations and it's interesting seeing how they tried to compensate for those limitations. This is why remakes are often branded soulless, because they don't have those limitations and so they're free to just "fully realize" the original (uninteresting) idea.

Soul = artA technical engineering drawing has no soul because it is designed to be as objective as possible. A landscape painted by an artist has soul because it conveys not only objective information, but feelings as well.When a game is so bad artistically that you feel there is nothing there, that it is just a sterile product that arouses no feelings or emotions, you say that the game is "soulless".If art means nothing to you, then you probably have no humanity and can be considered a talking animal, or a robot or something.
