Yeah the orphan brain plotline seemed giga retarded.I feel like that Armstrong would have a more neutral (maybe even nuanced) take if it focused entirely on what Sam did to Raiden where he started hearing the thoughts of the soldiers he killed.Like replace the orphan brains in jars with guys and girls who were pressured into """"donating"""" their brains because of the failings of the current government system.Then Raiden would probably have more internal conflict after hearing that Armstrong wants to do away with that system that caused people to have no choice but to become brains in jars or expendable cyborg soldiers.Of course, the debate would shift to if Armstrong was right to abuse the system in order to destroy it, which just becomes another "do the ends justify the means" storyline everyone's heard a bajillion times.I dunno, maybe the orphan brain plot is the way it is cause it's more entertaining. Sure as hell made Armstrong an incredibly memorable (and memable) antagonist.

armstrong's appeal is that he comes off as a narcissistic idiot brute who only spouts "might makes right" due to being strong but then he is happy about raiden killing him and it turns out he was genuine all along
