What makes a game scary?
For conservatives, if the game has bright colours or a black person in it. Sad!
No fucking clue. I think I lost something that made me feel fear in video games. It was spooky as fuck to deal with ominous things chasing you down (Wallmasters in Zelda where the shadow slowly grows and threatens to take you back to the beginning of the dungeon)Maybe it's something like a true sense of loss.
Good question. In my opinion:>liminal spaces (yes, unironically)>darkness>the presence of an unbeatable enemy whose appearance is unknown to you, because you never get a chance to have a good look at him>the threat of a jumpscare if you mess up, but ONLY if you mess up, no free jumpscaresThat first Slender game (a tech demo where you had to gather some notes in a forest and that was the entire game) is one of the scariest experiences of my life. It's just pure horror. You don't know what is chasing you (unless you are familiar with the concept of slenderman), he could be anywhere (especially when turning corners), if you see him you get jumpscared. Really well done game.

>>724201945It's because you are older now and likely have seen and experienced really scary shit in your own life now. It's totally fine to acknolwedge creative horror ideas but it would be pretty weird to be genuinely scared by a video game if you are past 16 (driving age) and even that is pretty late.
