>Steam Deck but smolWould you buy one? I know I would.
No
Yes but I still want two thumbsticks, a d-pad, two trackpads, and at least two backside buttons.
>>724203568Thats just the z1/e rog ally
>>724203568I would, but it has to be smaller.Pocketable small.I don't care how weak it is. It'll be an indie dream.
>>724206671Got what I'd give for a weak indi game handheld about the size of a vita
>>724203568>one 1 thumbstick, one trackpadfuck no
>>724203568HRT made me weak and gave me arthritis in both paws so it would be perfect for me.
>>724207660Praying for you
>>724203568I like having a screen I can read. Important for games that were never made for handhelds.
>>724203568No. The size is a crucial factor in why the steam deck works so well, and remains better than its competitors. If you're not making a pocketable device, you should make a full sized device which can comfortably fit a complete control scheme. The steam deck's ergonomics are kind of a miracle that make using any of the stick, dpad/buttons or trackpad comfortable in any combination, plus allows for multiple backbuttons that are easy to press. Also big device = more cooling = better performance.
>>724206671Pocketable x86 devices will never really be any good. Getting a retroid pocket style chinkheld (or one of the more expensive ones with better chips, idk the names thereof) and using that Android-Steam translation layer that exists now is probably a much better option.
>>724203568got one of these and besides the launcher being shit sometimes use it way more than I ever did with my launch steam deck. Only thing I regret is overpaying for the 32 gb ram model since don't really use it for the games I play.
>>724207157There's an entire industry of those these days, anon
>>724207804>The size is a crucial factor in why the steam deck works so well, and remains better than its competitors.Retard, the deck has the worst ergonomics out of all the handhelds. Just look at its retarded buttons placement.
>>724207975The button placement is exactly what I was praising you inbred ESL.It's good to use, due to the shape of the device. The actual ergonomics that you feel with your hands, not look at and go>THAT ISN'T WHAT I'M USED TO THAT"S BAD>WHY AREN'T THE BUTTONS LOWERED SO I CAN'T FUCKING GRIP THE DEVICE WHILE I USE THEM
>>724207965They're all running android shit or are turned to run shit that I have 0 clue why you'd play on a handheldIm all ears if youve got a recommendation tho
>>724207965Imagine paying some chinks for stolen emulators/ROMs.
>>724203568i dont care for sizei needPOWER
>>724208173I'm satisfied with a steamdeck and one of the tiny pocket vertical handhelds so I don't have specific recommendations. Android does mean full emulator access though at the very least. I've heard there's some translation layer shit that lets a lot of lower end indie games run too? But I don't know the specifics of.>>724208281You pay them for the hardware then put your own emulators/roms on it. It's not a complicated concept.
>>724207975I can tell you've never held one and think ergonomics means aesthetics.
>>724208467iirc RPG Maker VX Ace just straight doesnt work on android platforms unless the game is rather simple, the only option ive seen that fits what im looking for is more than a grand and id sooner just cave and get a deck
Steam deck sucks. If it was 2X more powerful maybe it would be good but it sucks right now.>b-b-but power isn't everything cope! For $350 on steams store it is, for $650 for the OLED it is.It is when you're getting 30fps in a game and spending lots of money thats a problem. It is when you cant even hit 40fps.Legion GO and z1 extreme ally exist. They invalidate the steamdecks entire existence.
>>724203568The deck is literally perfect, the only improvement they can make is more power in a steam deck 2.
>>724209000There just aren't many games where it matters. If they didn't stop making AAA singleplayer games worth playing you'd have a point, but they did.
>>724209047Retard, Legion GO and Z1 extreme ROG Ally completely mog your overpriced toy.
>>724209410But they're worse at playing the games I actually want to play on the steam deck.
>>724208281What's the difference between paying a chink for a handheld versus paying a jap for a handheld? Fucking retard.
>>724209686Just buy used, retard.
>>724203568Yes I would buy it but it needs a cool slide phone style mechanism where you pull the controllers and they reveal a hidden track pad.
>>724209047This
>>724203568>Tiny circular touchpad instead of a right stickOne of the Steam Deck's major demographics is consolefags who've never owned a PC in their life, and a Deck Lite would basically be tailor made for that audience. Is there a single game they'd play where having that is even remotely preferable over a stick?
How useful are the trackpads on the Steam Deck?
>>724211221It's a meme. ROG Ally devices are wise to remove that shit, which is why the Allys completely mog the Deck.
>>724211221Game changing for (old) FPS, cRPG and RTS. Modern FPS games have such insane unfair auto-aim on a controller, M&KB is a nerf since it's disabled. Useless for everything else. Some games don't handle dual input well so the moment you touch the trackpad all input prompts switch from controller symbols to M&KB. Emulating a stick with the touchpad isn't as good as emulating a mouse. Many PC fags swear by them but I've seen most console refugees whose first gaming PC is a Deck completely ignore them. They're not a gimmick but compatibility issues and lack of plug n play for many titles cause many not to bother.
>>724204201one trackpad is enough tbqwhy
>>724203568Nah, too ugly.Valve aesthetic in general is bottom tier trash for browns. Even shit like Xbox and Games for Windows – Live had more appeal.
>>724212440Sounds like cope, Xtard. Your console became generic corporate shit after the Xbox 360, hell, it was turning into that during the Xbox 360.
I miss frivolously tiny laptops
>>724211221Enables entire genres of games to be comfortably playable on Deck that aren't on their competitors. If all you play is controller slop console shit they're pointless, if you have a whole steam library and want to be able to play civilization or some random old roguelike or bind better, complex control schemes you'll get a decent amount of use out of them.>>724212440Valve aesthetic is the aesthetic of white nerds. It's the only gaming hardware that doesn't need to pander to the lowest common denominator.
>>724203568I already have a GPD Win 3 that I barely use, so no.
>>724203568yeah retroid pocket 5 is it's name. At least for "portable" gaming handheld i would be using to play old console games on it.
>>724203568>archlinux>playdo steam dickies really just fuck around with other linux distros cause they have nothing better to do? fucking why?
>>724212759I never owned a single Shitbox product in my life. I was basically forced to use steam in 2004/2005 and I hated it ever since, everyone hated it. Then the fat jew attracted third worlders with his 5€ humble bundle summer sales garbage and Dota 2 and now we are stuck with the worst reddit aesthetic possible in the west.
>>724211221it makes the steam deck usuable in desktop mode, great feature, might not need two of them though
hey remind me the msrp's of all those better handheld pcs again fellas
>>724211221absolutely a godsend for anything reuiring mouse navigation, they somehow managed to give perfect tactile feedback to a capacitive surface
>>724212440No way, an actual Xbot in 2025
>>724203568not really. most games aren't developed for small screens outside of handhelds that specialized in it. would be cool to emulate handheld games but then its use is extremely limited
>>724212440Kys xbox nigger.
>>724203568Unironically yes.The whole reason why I never bought one of these was because they're fucking massive.I don't care about the weight, but the size of it just made me not want to bother.Coincidentally, it's also why I purchased an Odin 2 Mini since it's literally the same form factor and size as the Vita but can play up to Switch games.
>>724203568which one of these Chinese handhelds would be good if I only want to stream from my pc? cheap as possible for a good quality, but with decent streaming capabilities?
Anybody else here have the OG Legion Go? I put SteamOS on it first thing, and now I almost regret it. It's such a pain to do anything, and the handheld just crashes randomly.Other than that, I am enjoying it. The Switch 2 feels better to handle, but there's just way more options on Steam. The Switch, PS3, and 360 emulators aren't bad. It's crazy how many games from the last 20 years aren't readily available without emulation.
>>724208467x86 emulation is very finnicky and basically requires Snapdragons to work best.
>>724217051Screen size/quality and control are going to be the most important aspects there. Size will be less important. So you want the cheapest device with an OLED screen and full-sized controls: The Steam Deck OLED.
>>724203568>>724204201>>724211602I want no trackpads and the thumb sticks, dpad, and x-y-b-a moved the fuck down. They're still not serious about selling these things with the button placement. I'll take mouse support that's fine. The vast majority of people who want these just want a portable gamecube/ps2/ps1 anyway.
>>724218460>I want no trackpads and the thumb sticks, dpad, and x-y-b-a moved the fuck down. You have every other handheld for that and it FUCKING SUCKS BALLS.It is aids on a handheld and always means whatever you moved down awkward and shit to use because you aren't fully holding the device.
>>724217051First of all, streaming is stupid and you'll never get used to the latency. Second, chips have different decoding times and you'll never find reliable data on each.
>>724218460>The vast majority of people who want these just want a portable gamecube/ps2/ps1 anyway. And at that point, you may be better off with one of those Android ARM devices, although apparently input latency is a bigger issue with those.
>>724209000once you are older than 5 you develop a taste for games and deck is enough.rog is dogshit and legion too for their garbage unusable spyware os that needs you to spend hours to make it barely functinoal and to even install it without an spyware account. They also have retarded res that has pixel density that is beyond absurd so it only sucks up battery and makes the games run more shit, all because of retards like you think more res more better. Not to mention asus will brick your device and will void warranty they legally should not be able to.Are they better than nothing?Yes, you can install a functional os like linux on them. Are they better than deck? Unless you are an edge case, no. If you are a mouthbreathing retard that needs his yearly aaa copy paste slop since you NEED to pay 100 dollars a year to have the video game equvilent of keys being dangled infront of your face, again, then get the legion with winshit. You deserve it.
>>724221752Worst part is they don't even run the shit marketers insist they do, it's just a tard tax for losing inputs.
>>724211602Not enough for something like crpgs.
>>724211221Depends what you play, there are thousands of old or niche pc games that require it, VNs would be broadly unplayable without it. Initially I thought they were useless but now I wouldn't buy one without it.
>>724203568The Ayaneo Air is the closest thing to a pocketable Steam Deck right now, albeit you need some pretty decent size pockets. The fact that we even have a PC gaming option that's pocketable is impressive but it's not without compromises either, namely size and battery. The technology isn't quite mature yet but we're getting there.
>>724212821GPD still has you covered, at least. Although it's kind of like getting a Unihertz keyboard phone when what your heart wants is a new Blackberry.
