I've been replaying vtmb recently and it's great strength is in how quickly they make characters memorable - their initial dialogue always tickles your fancy, and of course facial animations are incredible. What I did not like is that the game fails to actually convince you in anything, or present a complex problem, unlike deus ex. For example, you can be against NSF's violent tactics but it's hard to refute their points about corpos. But if you take VtMB's anarchs, as soon as you get into the bar and they start giving you quests - strike off a rat, go against camarilla who are a hierarchy impinging on their own (pseudo anarch) hierarchy, you can see how they're all clowns. This might be intentional, but it kinda defuses all the politicking and makes it really easy to stay on course since everyone is obviously retarded.

Other big thing is how Troika comitted all the faults they made in Fallout 1 - as soon as your persuasion is high enough, characters just let it go. You can say the dumbest shit and they will just except it, there is no back and forth, no argument. Troika does not bother writing persuasion in, just checking if you're supposed to do a jedi mind trick.

Minor flaws when it comes to historical significance of VtMB and the fact it's still head and shoulders above the field today, but still flaws.

Just finished 2. The ending was way too out of nowhere and the slide-show format didn't work for it. The conditions for getting certain endings are deeply stupid. Never the less, Fabien was a nice co-protagonist by the end and I over-all had fun. Lou's booba/10. I'd replay but the idea of facing the flashback segments again is a bit horrific.
