Good if they last like 10 frames to prevent you from dying to a single lingering hitbox. Bad if they last for 1-2 seconds as that encourages you not to learn difficult sections and to just iframe through them

I don't play games with contact damage or roll slop anymore, and both are contenders for i-frames. Contact damage is just retarded which is why i-frames are necessary, and rollslop is just bad game design. It's just boring. And yes I've played through dark souls.

Your hitbox shrinking a bit during the slide/dash animation which means you can smoothly duck under some enemy high attacks is the sickest shit ever.

For damage they're needed to avoid bullshit like getting 100-0'd in a single frame.

There are better ways to deal with the issue of repeated hits but it works and is cheap.

They're too exploitable. Not too bad in classics where you could barely take a hit, but even back then you could do shit like kill Bowser by running straight through him or beat Air Man on Difficult without dodging any attacks. Iframe on demand is worse because it invalidates entire categories of obstacle.

But they're great for shit you don't have control over. I don't want to die in a cutscene or door transition or instantly after getting revived.
