What killed RTS?
Me, I did.
>>724222213zero innovation and people chasing the e-sports crowd. They need to make an RTS games where "APM" doesn't really matter. In my view by making the scale bigger. You couldn't win ww2 by dancing one infantry squad back and forth
MOBAs
>>724222315>They need to make an RTS games where "APM" doesn't really matter. In my view by making the scale bigger.so basically grand strategy and 4x games? but yeah controlling every building, every unit and every rat has never been fun, or made any sense.
THE ICE AGE
>>724222213The thread archived less than 10 minutes ago and you make the exact same thread? Are you off your meds again?
>>724222271You bastard!
>>724222213It never died.
>>724222213Same thing that killed fighting games: They're too difficult for midwits.
>>724222525What's wrong with posting the same thing multiple times?
>>724222213>>724222362This. The birth of the MOBA genre.
you can blame your team in mobas
>>724222213Classical RTS is a shit, arcadey, outdated genre for sweaty koreansfuture of real time strategy games is with stuff like Gates if Hell and Total war
>>724223106Starcraft isn't a classical RTS. Total Annihilation is.
>>724222213people don't want to play 1v1. they want to play with a team that they can blame when they lose.
>>724223456that's part of the problem yeah, but that doesn't explain why singleplayer rts is unpopular too.
>>724222315>>724222461Go play mobas then you shitters
>>724222536It was a joke, ladIt was him >>724222801That was another joke
>>724223657i already do, i mean it's mostly isometric arpgs but it's basically the same thing. haven't played an rts since sc2. rts is just a shit format for both story telling and pvp.
>>724223972>sc2No wonder why you think RTS is shit. You played the absolute worst ones and thought that represented the genre.
>>724224127i mean i've played a bunch of other rts games before that, age of mythology, wc3, kingdoms under fire... rts suffer from the xcom problem for singleplayer, you can't make a connection with random units which makes for poor storytelling. as for pvp, rts games really lack a natural break in gameplay similar to rounds and respawns in fps games for example. the focus on apm is also terrible for the genre.
>>724222213How many times a fucking day are you going to make this thread?
>>724224250Did you play Total Annihilation? If not, then you can't make an opinion about RTS.
>>724222213Desu for me Rome total war killed the rts genre, why would I ever go back to controlling like 30 troops and some faggy gold mine and barracks when I could control thousands of soldiers at once and have multiple of these armies and have cities where my people pay taxes and trade for money?RTS genre is just too lame
>>724224250>rts suffers from some imaginary problem that XCOM never suffered from
>>724223456Good thing team matches exist in RTS4v4 is the most popular game mode in CoH for instance
>>724225584>RTS genre is just too lameThis. It's a collection of minigames: basic base building that's mogged by town/factory builder games, basic worker management mogged by colony sims, basic army management that tactics games mog on both small and large scale, and so on. Players ended up playing more specialized games with expanded features.
>>724222523Keyed
>>724225684considering it's the main reason i didn't play xcom for more than a couple of hours, it certainly did.building up units just for them to die means you can't get attached to anyone. crpgs fixed this 30 years ago. >>724225321i've played dune 2k and it's basically the same thing.
>>724226424Perhaps try visual novels?
>>724226553i prefer actual books, visual novels are decent for porn though but thanks.
>>724226553Why do visual novels have so much fucking text when they can show fucking pictures?
>>724222525/v/ is nothing but reposts
>>724224513until he's sent to the sandbox himself
>>724222315Innovation killed RTS. Warcraft 3 innovated by injecting RPG elements, which lead to MOBAs, which in turn killed the genre as >>724222362said
Innovation saved RTS.
>>724222213
>>724229112Lmao, I love how angry and indignant the monke looks after realizing that he was given a rotten egg.
>>724229112literally me
>>724222213zoomers being retarded
>>724222213All units must have a healthbar, even "complex" units in modern setting like tanks and other vehicles, calculating the valor of the armor, range and angles is completely superfluous and is one of the reasons consumer's don't buy rts anymore, a stewart light tank if given enough time should be able to destroy a tiger heavy tank, Men Of War 2™ had the right idea,Also better map design would help
>recently enjoyed two point hospital, roller coaster tycoon & black and white>all three are games in which you employ strategy in real time to win the game>rts niggers refuse to accept anything other than 1v1 toy solider apm faggotry as an actual rts game
>>724222213Rise of Nations is my favorite RTS and the only game where I feel the economy makes sense. And obviously, nobody ever tried to copy it.
RTS were always nonsensical. Building up a base that quickly, and needing to build one at the start of every map is just dumb. But the later RTS that tried to remove that lacked the gameplay that made RTS fun. They died because consoles cannot play them. It all happened right around the time UIs were being dumbed down for consoles if i recall. This means studios did not want to make games that were only playable on PC
>>724222213>how arty works irl
>>724232852Wrong.
>>724233559>move howitzer back>"dead space" no longer safe
>>724233781It would hit the hill.
>>724222523Incredibly based.
>>724233559Good thing starcraft doesnt use weapons from ancient times then.
>>724237750>realism argument
>>724237796Yes that's what the picture is doing.
>>724237884Wrong. My picture showed the implications of simulated projectiles and choice of trajectory. You saying starcraft has super weapon tech is just a realism argument to make your game more boring.
>>724233781>move hill forwardcheckmate, Hun
>>724238001You've had this super weapon tech of adjustable power and trajectory all the way back from liero and worms.
I know this is a bait image, but in StarCraft, you need vision, preferably by an air unit, to be able to shot behind an obstacle or above terrain.
>>724235385
>>724238449Nothing can surpass this limitation and the implications of this image.
>>724238580So what? That's a massive position limitation the terrain imposed, something Starcraft doesn't simulate.
>>724238760what is Starcraft?
>>724238876A shitty MOBA game that killed the RTS genre.
>>724222213They're boring and base
>>724239478see >>724238605
>>724239581My arty can penetrate blue forcefields.
>>724239639That's not a forcefield. It's a line.
>>724239738I'm fucked

>>724222213actually nice rendition of the Big Bertha, kino pic
>>724229112that is one ugly nose
