Windows 7 is back.
>>
no windows 10 is just gone
>>
Guess people don't want an audience that sells them out.
>>
>>724222575
If you don't game on your device win7 is fine. Using it right now on my laptop.
>>

I must not have been the only one who really did not want forced copilot or bitlocker.
>>
>>724222575
That doesn't look right
>>
>>724222873
It makes sense if people are switching to a non-Windows OS. Since it's just Windows devices and it's a percentage rather than raw numbers, a large number of Windows 10 users just not using Windows anymore would make all other OS take up a larger percentage.

I'm not sure why Windows 11 took the dip. Perhaps people switching from Win10 to Linux or Mac at the end of its lifetime encouraged people on Win11 to do the same.
>>
Why would people switch to Windows 7 now? Why didn't they just stay there in the first place?
>>
>>724223853
I'm still on Windows 7. PCs aren't for playing games.
>>
now why would anyone install a 15 year old OS in the first place?

>bugs and critical vulnerabilities out of the wazoo
>important certificates soon to expire if they didn't already
>zero hardware support for anything released in the past 10 years
>developers are not going to support old ass SDK and compilers and make sure the software runs on 10 past generations of hardware

are people still running Core2Duo or fucking what? windows 10 will still receive basic software/hardware support for the next few years and runs as well as Win7
>>
>>724223853
it's more indicative of an influx of chinks/jeets.
>>
>>724225894
Most of these aren't really issues.
>bugs and critical vulnerabilities out of the wazoo
>important certificates soon to expire if they didn't already
You can still get updates: https://desuarchive.org/g/thread/105915866/#105918406
>zero hardware support for anything released in the past 10 years
This is the only real issue, although old hardware is still good enough.
>developers are not going to support old ass SDK and compilers and make sure the software runs on 10 past generations of hardware
Use VxKex.

My work PC is still on Win7 with an old i7 and it's so much faster and more responsive than all the other newer PCs in the office with Win10/11 it's insane. I hate having to touch anybody else's PC.

I'm staying on Windows 10 until most newly released games that interest me require Windows 11 or greater. And I'm skipping Windows 11 altogether anyway. If I ever do upgrade to another Windows OS, it will be Windows 12 or higher. Or, when time comes to move on from Windows 10, I may just abandon Windows completely and go with a linux distro.

Linjeet tranny thread.
>>
>>724231420
If Windows as a whole lost enough users to make Windows 7 exceed 20%, Microsoft would be absolutely finished. It's more likely that the data is just fucked. I don't doubt that a bunch of people switched to Linux, but Windows 7 going from 1% to 20% just from people leaving Windows entirely would imply that Windows has already lost the vast majority of its users. The math doesn't work.

It set behavioral standards both in and out of the open source community. Being written by a tranny those standards were basically demands to behave as a far left radical. It commanded maintainers to ensure everyone who contributes anything to their project adheres to those standards and any maintainer who doesn't do that is to have them and their software blacklisted. This was something Linux adopted.

Because there was enough of a pushback the demands mostly got watered down to generic workplace etiquette stuff but originally it was very political.

you don't understand, installing linux is scary, so many things that could go wrong, like not having windows anymore on your system.

I wanted to try fedora because i like the idea of it being up to date but not too much to where stuff breaks like arch, why do anons complain about it
I see people saying it's just "beta testing for red hat" or its somehow not actually private and is like windows and i dont get it
Is it just schizos or what, i dont follow this shit, i dont even know what would make that true or how it all affects me

fedora is a project handled by both redhat and the community. it's a middle ground between full corporate like ubuntu or popos.
there's nothing to worry about, the worst thing that could happen to it is that it gets discontinued.

I saw a video on this.
Some asian AI startup was scraping for data using W7 emulators because they thought no one would know what they were up to if they used something so out of date. But they went overboard and managed to inflate the W7 usage stats globally.

It took a bit to get it on there but it runs fine on my 13th gen comp. I make 4k vids using after effects(pirated obv) and resolve 18. I play crab champions, noita, portal 2 co-op and a bunch of random games like the forest with my bro who moved far away.
I make edm that can compete with any modern edm(mix wise, im no amazing composer) on it.
Cant imagine using 10 or fucking 11

I'm in Windows for the last few days for the first time in nearly a year. It's an old install of 10, but no hardware has been changed and there's nothing installed except some games. Here's a list of shit that doesn't work:
>Waking from sleep forces the monitor into 720p
>One wake caused the monitor to power on, but no signal was sent, had to ctrl-alt-del blind
>Setting desktop resolution back results in the wrong color profile if in SDR mode
>cold boots take minutes
>update nagging, even though auto updates are off
>computer wakes for no reason during the night and it's HOT wtf?
>mouse accel can't be turned off

The only thing like this with the Linux install is that waking from sleep doesn't automatically turn on the monitor.

I just really don't see a reason to upgrade. Like other anons here have said who cares about vulnerabilities if youre tech literate and don't fall for basic scam emails you're probably going to be fine.
Most everything works fine on W10, most old head companies still use WindowsXP or Windows7 as well. I cannot see technology advancing a reasonable amount for there to be a need to jump to W11 with it's bloatware, AI, and spying. Windows 10 debloated with Start11 from Stardock is pretty much all I need.

As of now there are also no good games that are W11 exclusive. W10 supports DX12... again theres just no point...
>>
>>724244672
Not gonna lie, I did get a bit nervous when capcom made that big "we won't support W10" news post that showed up on Steam, but it'll probably be fine.

>if youre tech literate and don't fall for basic scam emails you're probably going to be fine.
vulnerabilities don't always require social engineering. it can be anything from intercepting your traffic to opening your favorite website with the infected ads.
you should be fucking terrified of vulnerabilities if you store anything somewhat relevant on your computer.

>>
>>724244950
It would make more sense if it was a shitload of companies doing this. Unless that startup is the size of Google there's no way it would have anywhere near that much impact on market share.
>>
>>724244672
Also I can emulate every game from 1st-7th gen on Windows 10 just fine except for XBOX and Xbox360 games because the emulators suck but I can eventually just buy a modded version of the 360 with every game I want already loaded onto it. Also some games that heavily rely on gimmicks like nintedo wii games and DS games I can just mod as well.

Really the upgrade should only concern high profile companies because midwits get catfished easily and need babysitters.

>>724244796
That usually just means if it breaks on your machine they arent liable to fix it

>>724245086
Can you not just avoid this with VPN adblock and a decent antivirus software?

I never see ads on my PC. I only browse twitter, youtube, and 4chan because every form of content gets siphoned there anyways. I think its a valid concern btw I just don't really fully grasp how this is any different from people doing this exact thing to someone on say Linux or W11

Computing is dead. It will no longer be viable as an interactive collaborative mindhive. It will be entirely ai slop and marketing. There is no turning back. Theses will be some of your last moments in the world of "the internet".

The future will be services and subscriptions. Your OS wont matter. Your content and knowledge will be drip fed to you by algorithms and what you can afford.

Your only secure and reliable communications with be via traditional mail and face to face (if you can even call these things safe anymore with how much technology is jampacked into every little inch of your lives)

A shady AI startup running multiple VMs of W7 in order to bypass web scraping restrictions absolutely could inflate the stats. Since those stats usually exclude web scraping from declared sources because they're trying to measure real users.
This is just a case of the data reflecting something it wasn't trying to measure.

When it first came out the most agreed upon answer was that some taiwan company (all those new win7 installs were detected out of taiwan) spun up a bunch of processes for scraping data for their LLM training, gave them a fake win7 agent identifier, and then just launched way too many instances.

protection on the web works in layers, the weaker each layer is the more vulnerable you are, and your anti virus sure as shit isn't going to work on windows 7 either.

My only problems with W7 were artificially created by actors who wish to see W7 die
These problems were that programs would not work if I didn't have certain system dll files, so I had to find a way to find what dll it is and install it correctly for newer programs/new updates for old programs to run, and I couldn't use new hardware because the fags didn't create support for it and the custom drives are too shady for me to try
One thing that made me buttmad was learning that Python erased the single line of code that allowed newer Pythons to work on W7, so programs dependant on new Pythons such as video editors and downloaders didn't work, and I was stuck with very old editors and downloaders
After upgrading my hardware I finally bit the bullet and jumped to W10 because W7 doesn't run without gigantic gimmicks on my new CPU, but I use this piece of shit OS with a heavy heart. I miss my fucking Aero...

>For everything
Cool, yeah it's not going to run games that block Linux and it's not going to run Photoshop.
As a Linux distribution, it's fine. There are no games that only run on a specific Linux distribution, or if there are any, the amount of such games is so insignificant that I haven't heard of any. The most notable and objective downside of Mint is that it's based on Ubuntu LTS packages so it won't have the latest of anything unless you get it from Flatpak, so if the Linux kernel literally just added support for your graphics card in the past few months, it might not work. If your hardware is supported, it's fine. You don't have to let your self be memed into thinking games won't run without this morning's commits to random pacakges.
>>
>>724245730
How would Win7 or VMs of WIn7 be able to bypass webscraping restrictions?

>>724249569
If you're on NVidia you're going to have a tougher time with compatibility since Linux works better with AMD products. You can try CachyOS, Bazzite, or Artix for more modern gaming. Almost every other distro works for retro gaming.
If you really want to dive deep into Linux, then it's either Gentoo or Arch.
>>
>>724249569
you only have 2 real desktop environments on linux and those are gnome and kde, everything else is poorly staffed and maintained.
it surprises me everyday that people still recommend the dinosaur that is mint. go install bazzite.
>>
>>724249569
>For everything, any linux distro playing well with rtx 4000? I will be gaming and doing some AI fuckery like generating images and doing I2V.
>Nvidia
Experience varies.
You could do both AI and gaming.
I recommend Settting up a dualboot and testing things out on a Linux mint installation before switching waiting has no purpose, either stick with windows or switch to linux or permanently dualboot.
For me I use, fedora kinoite and windows LTSC for all the windows exclusive stuff and another windows 11 system I work in a mixed environment. {These are not gaming decisions as I game fully on Linux.}
But mint is a fine option as well.

>>
>>724251395
It's not fake though. It's a bunch of 3rd worlders getting access to the internet for the first time.
>>
>>724246551
Nvidia are massive jews and hate their customers so you have to have an AMD card if you want some type of dual boot setup.
Cards newer than 3800 do not have drivers for 7.
I succeeded in getting Elden ring to work on 7 but my graphics card wouldn't work with the vulcan setup I was using and I could only get 3 fps.
I hear you can make a small tweak and most things still work.
