Explain to me why RTS is dead without sounding like a retard.
Because they're boring like that anime.
>>724227327gaming is popular now, rts is higher iq
South Korea
>>724227327It's not "dead", but it sells less than other games, so developers don't like to invest into them anymore.
gamer grills, aka females
>>724227327according to consumer reports, the average gamer says that strategy is NOT an important element when determining what games to play
>>724227327Frieren feet shaped controller
Do you know any games in the genre that can basically play itself? Testers and streamers like DSP need FPS and movie games to be dumbed down for them to play them.
>>724227327too steep learning curve, and if you switch RTS you have to re-learn everything again and try to not confuse things in your current RTS for how stuff worked in the previous RTS you played
>>724227327Grand strategy and MOBA cut its lunch.
>>724227469>imageif you want a really dire stat, every 2 seconds there's 1 live birth in Africa. i don't know how we will feed them all.in the year 2100 there will be 3.8 billion people in Africa (1.5 in India).
Once everyone started using the Internet they became afflicted with the terrible disease known as metagaming. RTS became soulless speedclickan gaems where everyone must follow the meta, and no fun is ever allowed. RTS was the most popular genre back before people were on the Internet getting spoonfed the meta. The Meta ALWAYS minmaxxes fun right out of games.
>>724227327It's a genre like fighting game where it's hard to find a nice balance between sweats and casuals. but by design is geared towards sweat overtime, so a group of sweats quickly stomp out casuals who move on to something else while the sweats eventually get bored until a small group of autists remain.
>>724227327Jews
Avatartranny thread.
>>724227715>where everyone must follow the meta, and no fun is ever allowedHow is this an issue in a 1v1 game?
Truth is you're all wrong and RTS never died. All these reasons you made are just made up bullshit of nonexistant problems. RTS is thriving more than ever.

>>724227327Companies saw a market for sweaty tryhards and the retards who watch themCompanies tried to cater to said sweaty tryhards in order to attract larger audiencesCompanies forgot they were originally trying to make a gameGame flops time after time after trying to find the perfect formulaIf they had remembered that a game is meant to be fun, enjoyable, and not cancerous then they'd have "the perfect formula" as the players themselves would MAKE IT unfun, unplayable, and sweaty tryhard faggotree all by themselves to bring in the esports watchers, while having the audience to cater to seeing as the game itself would be fun and enjoyable.
>>724227696Dire. here is an idea: we don't feed them
Is there a reason why western elves have ears that point vertically while Japanese elves have ears that point horizontally?
>>724227327Have you seen the state of the country, not to say the world? It's becoming dumber day by day.
>>724227327
>>724228276Are you retarded? That's what artillery does, the shell arcs so that it can hit targets that it doesn't have a direct line-of-sight to.
>>724227327Niche genre these days because of a more casual gamer audience, thus not profitable enough for tripple a studios.Any other line of reasoning is either cope or missing the actual core reason.
Korea happenedKoreans are the single most soulless gamers to exist that can only follow a strict META and they break down the moment they have to actually think for themselves, so games like Starcraft were perfect for them because it required 0 thinking and just following a strict forumla to do every game.Obviously most people think this kind of gaming sucks, which is why it was mostly Koreans that played Starcraft... but for some reason western devs thought ALL gamers like these kid of games and started to balance it around them.
>>724227715>Once everyone started using the Internet they became afflicted with the terrible disease known as metagamingYou mean when you actually got to play with more than bots or a handful of friends that had no idea what they were doing?
>>724227327It's more dexterity than strategy and the winning move is to think as little as possible while executing simple algorithmic actions as quickly as possible.Good campaigns are the one saving grace for some games.
>>724227327too abstract for people who wanna roleplay being an actual general, too complex for people who wanna sit on a group call with friends and chat shit while pushing laneslike I have fond memories of Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2, but nowadays I'd rather play Medieval 2 Divide and Conquer if I want to actually commit Dw*rf genocide
>>724228332Stop pretending that Starcraft simulates projectiles. It is hitscan with a delay that is identical regardless of terrain or distance. It will hit the target regardless of whether it is actually possible or not (not everything is possible with high trajectory artillery). High trajectory artillery takes much more time to hit their target. Terrain can impose relative range reductions for artillery. Starcraft respects nothing and looks like shit for doing so.
>>724228332He's going to post an outdated graphic from WWII saying only mortars can do that, get ready.
>>724227770It's a single-player genre. For example, Empire Earth. A very average rts. You play that against the AI to have fun with all the units and because it lets you go through 20 eras (this could never exist today because balance btw) and build a city kinda like SimCity. You play the other for the cool campaign, etc.
its "fans" hate the genre
>>724228276On top of what the other anon said, this would cause immense balance issues for what Starcraft is trying to be.
>>724227327Too demanding for the average player, and they lend themselves to be highly competitive, which many players don't like. You basically need high APM and a few other filtering things to not get utterly trashed online. It's like a more extreme case of what kills fighting games, too many good players pushing out the weaker players as the player count naturally goes down. Throw in a larger time investment for matches, and it's no wonder why you so rarely see them pop off.It still gets games, and maybe one day someone will strike gold and bring it back for a bit, but again, it naturally filters players. You have have to take into account a lot of the appeal of RTS...at least to me, and some other players...is just messing around and making some cool unit and sending them into big battles. That stops being fun if you get cheesed early the 50th time, or utterly crushed over and over again.
>>724228276Nobody gives a shit about that except a small handful of autists.
>>724228562>It is hitscan with a delay that is identical regardless of terrain or distance. It will hit the target regardless of whether it is actually possible or notWho gives a shit? You're one of those retards that cries about their opponent being able to move after getting hit with 7.62 in any given shooter, aren't you?
>>724228637>most popular rts games right now are TA clones or descendants
>>724228785>strawmanAmazing argument.
>>724227696>>724228156Here's a better idea, nuke them from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
>>724228562Not the anon you're replying to, but it is a legitimate argument to account for balance. I think Starcraft 2 is shit, and I would need to be paid to actually play it anymore, but it is a valid argument (barring the strawman bullshit he presented)
>>724229232You design the game with simulated projectiles in mind.
>>724228867>Fallacy fallacy>Circular reasoningWe're not in debate club, retard. Crying that a game not going for realism isn't realistic is moronic and so I likened you to another set of morons doing the same thing. Starcraft's target audience does not give a shit that turrets are hitscan, the type of game it's trying to be doesn't benefit from it (and in fact it would likely make it worse), and there's no gigantic audience just waiting for Starcraft but with proper projectile weaponry.
>>724227327They were never good
Guys how do I stop getting fucked in the ass by spammed long distance cannons and jets in sw galactic battleground? I know it's just aoe2, but I dont seem to understand how defense values work at all
>>724227327They're not making them anymore.
>>724227327>Explain to meThis exact reason.>too lazy to do your own research>too lazy to control more than one characterI hate zoomers.
microfags went to MOBAsmacrofags went to grand strategystoryfags went to FPS and RPGs
>>724229442>fallacy fallacy>fallacy fallacy>another strawmanTruth is you're not arguing with reason in your mind. You're just shitting out whatever stream of conciousness is going through your head. This has nothing to do with realism.
>>724227327It's dead because I'm a retard
>>724227327Genres phase in and out, lots of things work like that, fashion trends, game genres, overall trends online and in media. It's only natural one of the oldest genres would eventually get less and less attention as new genres and games hit the market. Look at the boom of Survivor clones, Battle Royales, TPS/Hero Shooters we've had in the past decade
>>724229394For what purpose? To satisfy your whim?I'm willing to bet you're in the very vocal minority in this equation.
>>724227696>i don't know how we will feed them all
>>724229934>most popular RTS subgenre are TAlikesSimulated projectiles create more interesting battles. Emergent phenomena comes from simple rules that can create complex systems. Simulated projectiles truly do utilise the real time aspect of RTS.
>>724229985We should have listened.
SC2 once said "I'm the only RTS ever" and it stayed like that.
>>724227327It's not, but it died on PC when graphics improved and people could make other games, and MOBA released scratching that itch. It's huge on mobile still
>>724227381fpbp
>>724227327I can’t speak for the rest of the world but when I want to play a strategy game, I prefer turn based strategy.Real time is for action games.
>>724227327>Not much room for experimentation>Lots of micromanaging in real time>The same build order logic over and over>People would rather play MOBA or Turn Based games. RTS is the awkward middle childAlso kys weeb OP
>>724227327kys
Because we stopped watching Pure Pwnage.
>>724227327explain to me why NTR is bad without sounding like a normie
>>724227696Dire situation indeedSolution:nuke
>>724227327its prominence as a genre by almost any metric you might care to look at is at a small fraction of where it was at its peak
>>724227327Because nothing better than Age of Empires 2 or Starcraft 2 came out ever since
Most RTS "fans" only played the same game they wasted years mastering so every new game of this genre get 0 players.
>>724227327Same reason fighting games have only middling (comparatively) numbers compared to other genres; the learning curve to overcome before PVP (the main point of the game) gets fun is too steep. There's a reason the only way get an average gamer into RTS is with an extensive single player, because for a lot of people they'll play that and then leave. This then means it's hard for indies to make games for it, because you need a considerable budget for a really great single player experience. THEN triple AAA groups don't want to make them because it's enough of a return. Thus we enter a death spiral where the genre dies out
>>724231439Same for me, desu. Turn based means it's less about making a lot of different decisions and instead trying to figure which one choice is best for the situation, at least for me
>>724227327E-sports faggotry, no campaign, no innovation
People don't like multitasking which inevitably ends up being the focus of RTS games. Also multiplayer games built on 1v1s in general suffer because they can feel too personal. Same reason why fighting games struggle.

AoE2 is already perfect Nothing else needs to exist
>>724237019Because AoE2 is literally perfect. Some things really are so fucking good nothing else needs to exist after. Sometimes you only need a few of something. Everyone is still playing this or StarCraft.
>>724237403>>>/qa/
Becsuse RTS as a genre is primarily popular as a single player/vs ai thing except developers saw the single time multiplayer ever eclipsed it in popularity (starcraft 2) and they all immediately tried making every rts be sweaty 1v1 ranked competitive without realizing it worked in starcraft 2 because it had an existing playerbase from BW
>>724227327sir who is the she

>>724239036>realism makes dogshit gameplayCorrect, which is why Starcraft fucking sucks.
>>724237596good morning sir you don't know the woman? The woman is from very good anime I recommend.
>>724239135wgat part of starcraft is realistic? because sc2 sucking dixk and having gay balancing does not have to do anything with realism
>>724227327There's some promising titles on the horizon. No genre is really ever dead. They're just going through their turn of greasy, cockroach suits weaselling in on the currently popular thing, not understanding why it's popular, "killing" the thing, and eventually moving onto some other thing to rape it for shekels.
>>724239330From all the realism arguments people use to justify hitscan.
>>724237591the worst part is that bw wasnt designed for sweats, you have some beyond stupid shit and bugs in the game
>>724239471you dont have to justify hitscan, it just keeps gameplay simple and keeps frustrating shit at bay
>>724239571>i don't want any nuance in an rts>just give me my hero i can control and let me win after following a guide
>>724227327I cannot explain why the genre as a whole lost popularity, but personally I find those games very exhausting. There are so many things to keep track of and so many units to control. One of my all-time favorites was Rise of Legends, because it was relatively simple and streamlined, you could play at a high level relying mostly on strategy rather than strict timings and uber-micro.
>>724227327Most games are made for consoles and RTS games controls are hard to translate to controller.
>>724239678now, i know you're some brown northamerican muttoid that has never ever been proficient at any game past the most casual of stages and that all your rts experience boils down to a formulaic campaing but there is beauty in simplicity, not every game has to be flop commander, the complexity of broodwar is on execution
>>724240675Wrong. There is no nuance to Starcraft. No depth. No interesting emergent phenomena. Simulated projectiles are a simple concept but have great implications in how they change the game. Picrel is what starcraft gameplay looks like. If you did this in Total Annihilation you would be called a retard.
>>724239791>I cannot explain why the genre as a whole lost popularity, but personally I find those games very exhausting.People were already complaining it's always the same shit copy-pasted over and over again in the 1999 review of Tiberian Sun.RTS was dead-set on staying the exact same at a time when most genres were making absurd leaps in game design.Look at action platformers:In 1999 they had Prince of Persia 3D.In 2003 they had Sands of Time.In 2007 they had AssCreed. In 2013 they had Black Flag.In 2017 they got Origins.FPS games?Doom to Half Life to Halo/Call of Duty, Borderlands and so on.But RTS games today are still just recycling the old shit. Total War hasn't really changed since Rome 1 (2004), they're just fiddling with the interface and balance of what's essentially the same fucking game. AoE 4 is just AoE2 (1999) with some Cossacks (2001)/Stronghold(2001) and AoE3 (2005) ideas glued in.
>>724227327URGHH HLPPRMFFF OOOOO MMMRLPFHHH GAH!
>>724241185>it's always the same shit copy-pasted over and over again in the 1999 review of Tiberian SunEh, WC3 came out in 2002 and was pretty different from C&C style mindless tank spam.
>>724227696Why is everyone so worried about this? Most of them won't survive.
>>724241298I get it now.
>>724241024you wouldn't be called shit because nobody plays your physics simulator
>>724241415Yeah, and it was also dissed by the RTS community for it. People would rather play Touhou maps and DotA than WC3.WC2 fanbase hated it. SC fanbase hated it. There were only like 2-3 copies of it as well. Unlike WC2 which had a bajillion copy-paste games made after it.If PoP players all dropped AssCreed, all of its ideas and mechanics around free parkour would also be a mere fart in the wind.People shit on Borderlands but everyone and their mom played those damn things back then, because it was both new/interesting and fun.Same for the popularisation of autoheal in FPS games. Or the era of chest high walls for cover-shooters.You can't play fucking UT99 and get the same experience but you sure as fuck can play AoE2 and not miss anything from decades later in RTS space.
>>724227327because there's just like 2 types of games>age of empires like where you control individual pawns>civilization like where you got tilesand that's basically it it doesn't matter if it has medieval or space coat of paint it's all the same anyway>>724227381trvke
>>724227327I love that elf.
