The only way a game can count as art is through its gameplay. If the only way it can count as a form of art is through aping films and novels, than games can not be art.

Alright, thats a good image, OP. Got a sensible chuckle from me.

But let me ask you this. What does the status as "art" give to a video-game?

Is it only there so you can pretend you are sophisticated for enjoying your sloppa? Or that makes its consumption somehow more socially acceptable than just another product?
>>
>>724228631
Well, in my opinion, absolutely nothing. They dont need to be art to be enjoyed

Better discourse

Why would I ever want games to be considered "art"?
>>
>>724228925
Because that way they can be deconstructed and analyzed in dozens of video essays.

>implying modern art discourse is better.
We already have video game journos pretending anyone not paid by corporations should not have opinions on games.

Art discourse has degraded massively once it archived greater status.
