Why are modern game devs so afraid of the color green? The level is meant to be based on the Pacific Northwest but this looks more like fucking Fallujah
My favorite Pacific Northwest inspired level is Assault on the Control Room.
>>724230869the whole fun of orbitals is that it's an artificial environment so the devs can go as crazy as they want with what everything looks like, ala something like what Banks describes in his books. I like the aesthetic of the halo rings but I'm not sure why they don't get more adventurous
>>724230967I missed the part where the Silent Cartographer was based on Iraq.
>>724230992the world has a lot of color combos that they could explore and play around with too..
>>724231181I really love the beach + city aesthetic personally
>>724230869Only matters if you’ve seen the original. Zoomers won’t care. Go play the 2001 one, grandpa
>>724230869The new devs were influenced by the deserts of Rajasthan
>>724230869saar yellow is homely
>>724231242>It's okay to eat shit if you don't know any betterAre zoom-zooms okay?
>>724231230
>>724231242Did people in 2001 not think the Pacific northwest was beautiful? They didn't have any nostalgia for the original Halo, because it hadn't come out yet.
>>724231515i never looked at halo 1 and thought "pacific northwest," are the devs retarded? It always looks tropical to me, like Fiji. The landmasses on the ring aren't big enough to sustain a biosphere like the pacific northwest......
>>724230869>Using the default UE5 Lumen shit filterCheap asset flip as expected.
>>724231623>FijiAnd the color green is also present in Fiji.
>>724231515Bro it’s 2001, they didn’t even have TikTok. Of course they cared about the Pacific Northwest aesthetic.
>>724231719I don't have immediate access to my pictures from thailand but yes the coastal areas all look like that - that's what I think halo is meant to look like, at least for the island regions
>>724230869halo died after reachidk what this garbage is but they've clearly missed ALL of the points
>>724231623the first level on the halo ring has a very pine forest feel ngl
why would you fly your devs out on a fucking sight seeing vacation instead of just showing some pictures ?Why would the devs need it instead of just their art guy?
>upgrade graphics but keep the same limited level structure densityOf course it will go astray very quickly if you try to combine modernized objects with the old level structure that used objects as their kinda abstracted depictions that could get away with being oversized etc. The overall aesthetic will miss the point.
>>724231948it used to be common practice to get reference photos GTA SA flew Rockstar's entire art team out to LA to get photos of actual locations to use as inspiration, the Playstation magazine here in the UK did a big article and interview about it
>>724231948Because of soul. You need to experience it to recreate it.
>>724232043lol thats not how you create soul in your game
>>724230869People who work on games have never been outside. They have never been in a forest or near a farm. All they know is the concrete hellscape of their open concept prisons.
>>724230869>Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary>use Halo Reach assets that completely ruin the aesthetic and art style of Combat Evolved, Anniversary ends up looking like absolute shit>Widely hated by everyone, 343 (now rebranded as Halo Studios) promises to remain faithful to Halo CE with the new remake>Its all literally just Halo Infinite assets this timeAmazing how this company hasn't learned a single fucking thing. How are these people still employed?
>>724230869Why normalfags suddenly hate demake? It's exactly the same as Des, re, mgs, any other demake before.
>>724231859yeah it was unique, not just a typical island environment
>>724230869>Why are modern game devs so afraid of the color green?Because they have no experience living life in the real world. Pic related.
>>724232261Why does nobody seem to acknowledge that the Anniversary models are clearly made for the Reach character skeleton, but are clumsily fitted to the CE skeleton, making all the proportions look ridiculous?
>>724232106>>724231948I hope you realize that actually experiencing something and looking at a photograph of it are two different things.
>>724232289if the game has had two remakes already, and you genuinely have no other creative ideas except remake it with new technology AGAIN, then you're in the wrong fucking industry and you are a net-negative on gaming as a whole industryyes, you heard that correctlyif you heard the words "halo 1 remake with AI art and destructible vehicles" and you thought wow that sounds like a GREAT idea, then YOU are who are killing video games and you should give up the executive position and be a sandwich artist at Subway instead literally nobody wants Halo 1, again
>>724232261>How are these people still employed? Why are you assuming that a single person who worked on the last game didn't leave the company years ago? It being the same company doesn't many anyone working there has been there for more than a year or 2.
>new remake is somehow worse than the old remake from 15 years agoclown world
>>724232429>>724232396Making something ingame SOULFUL does not mean REALISMThere are not random giant boulders sitting next to lakes anyways unless people put them there
Why are there so many indians shilling this game here? Even twitter is shitting on it
>>724232537>the old remake from 15 years agowhich wasn't good then and still isn't, by the way
>>724233059nobody said otherwise you stupid nigger
>>724232597My post about Tom and Jerry has nothing to do with realism you fucking mongoloid. It has to do with capturing the essence of nature, which can only be done by someone who's spent time in nature. Touch grass.
>>724233113look man I'm just still mad about it
>>724232261Because reusing assets = cheap and easy. What, you want them to make actual brand new models just for this UE5 slop game? are you crazy?
>>724233416me too man, me too
>>724232396Literally this
>>724231948anon a game that I followed, which was funded via both crowdfunding and private investors for $40 million, hired a fucking archaeologist for an RTS to consult for them because part of their story involved "ancient ruins." Developers are fucking retarded and squander money left and right
>>724230869A remake could be cool but using Unreal Engine 5 graphics as the main selling point is really pathetic, this kind of thing isn't impressive anymore and every AAA looks like this. Instead of showing their prototype they should have waited until they could have shown the new missions, new weapons, improved second half of the game, and mechanics that aren't sprint for gods sake. The only cool thing I've seen is the four player coop so far, why was that not shown in the showcase at all
>>724233813I'm reminded of how Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric's budget was blown on realistically modelling some dinosaur skeleton by paying to give the artists direct access to the preserved remains.
>>724231504
>>724232597>There are not random giant boulders sitting next to lakes anyways unless people put them there
>>724234098exactly.. It's on the producers and management to keep people in line and ensure that budgets aren't being wasted. Which is hilarious because it's not like we are arguing about "hire an artist" over "hire a developer" etc, it's "don't throw money by the 200k chunk into a bonfire on shit that has ZERO relevance"
>>724234296montana?
>>724234098That shit has got to be money laundering
>>724235247cry
>>724234376Nope, it's the famous Nietzsche stone.>In the summer of 1879 AD, Friedrich Nietzsche visited the Engadin for the first time and found his summer residence in the picturesque landscape of Sils. From 1881 to 1888 AD he spent the summer months there, often on the shores of Lake Silvaplana. It was here that he came up with the idea of the "eternal return" - a central concept of his masterpiece "Thus Spoke Zarathustra".>In the summer of 1879, Friedrich Nietzsche visited the Engadin for the first time and found his summer residence in the picturesque landscape of Sils. From 1881 to 1888 he spent the summer months there, often on the shores of Lake Silvaplana. Here, sitting on a rock, he immersed himself in his thoughts and found inspiration for his philosophical works. The Nietzsche Stone today commemorates this important phase of his work and attracts philosophy enthusiasts from all over the world.
>>724235587Curse Vishnu right now.
>>724234296yesI put that thereI thought it looked nice there, and it doesyou're fucking welcome
>>724236524That's boulderdash. You didn't move it.
>>724237010isn't that an atari game
>>724237937I think that's digdug. I prefer mr do
>>724236274you do it salty crybaby
>>724230869Shitllennials are incapable of making their own games. All they can do is rape Gen X and Boomer creations into the ground with shitty ports and demakes.
Why was the CE remake made in the odst engine pulled down today? The creator deleted the mod on nexus and the workshop and deleter his social media accounts
>>724239379They got him...
>>724239379DMCA? These were his final tweets.
>>724232450I don't even play demakes myself. I think all of them are trash. This one is no different, not better, not worse and yet masses seems to hate it while consuming all the other demakes. I bet some influencer has influenced them.
>>724239148But it's mostly gen xers that run these companies now
>>724239379They were getting dogpiled for not being "OMG NEW SHINY" and getting dragged into more arguments by being used as an example for a remake and stuff.Probably a "fuck this fanbase" ragequit.
>>724239379Real shame, because using the Halo 3 assets unironically looks way better than what we gothttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD3GLek1AF8
>>724232597In a way, yes it does. What you call "soul" means authentic experience expressed by the developer to the player. If the developer has not experienced it himself, how can they be expected to express that authentically in the game. it would be like an Indian trying to describe the grand canyon through a photograph vs someone who has lived there.
>>724232261At least anniversary lets you toggle the graphics back to the original. I liked the H2A cutscenes too, but it was annoying needing to toggle back and forth when a cutscene started/ended.
This disaster of a game should be the clearest example to all for why AAA gaming, particularly in the west, is dying.
>>724230869Imagine thinking Indians understand what a beautiful country looks like
>>724236524Thanks anon. I appreciate your creativity. You did a good job and I enjoy your boulder.
>>724243510nice balls
>>724231449so you aren't going to play it? why waste your time on it then?
