>>724235351It's an actually rather unique game. It's relatively low stakes and more whimsical compared to most other JRPGs. If the characters are already middling to you and the thought of ~25 hours of slice of life and romance scenarios doesn't excite you, it's best to just drop it. The story doesn't get 'serious' until the final chapter really, although everything that happens throughout the game is leading up to it so it's not filler.
Should I play the original or remake?I love the charming graphics of the original, but the gameplay seems like a slog from what I've seen.

Combat is indeed much worse off, as physical damage in the original is absolute shit so it's best to just spam spells and nothing else.The original's portraits are amazing and the atmosphere is a bit better (better lighting to fit the mood, stuff like that) but the remake is still worthy and amazing.
If this continues long enough and Azure gets this same treatment i can die and happy man.

>>724236346Gameplay wise the remake is a lot better.The only issue with starting with the remake (aside from the translation, which some don't like) is that if you get hooked, the cliffhanger will fuck you up if you can't wait a year or two for the second game.

And despite all the games having a connected storyline and world, it's just not good.You'd expect that with 20+ years of JRPGs that are direct sequels to each other, you'd have a very in-depth and rich world and good buildup for the big overarching plot (The Grandmaster, etc)But there is no such thing, they're writing each game completely as they go (Falcom gotta launch one game a year) and they just retcon whenever they write themselves into a hole.
