The unit can be removed and the illuminated front sight can be used in its absence. Same reason the AR has no sights.

In fact, the marines might as well not wear armor at all at this point.Similarly, for ODSTs, I think Space Combat style suits would prioritize deflecting bullets rather than absorbing them since any puncture kills you from from being exposed to a vacuum. So at that point it would be preferable to risk shrapnel fractures and bullets deflecting since any failure of the armor kills you anyway.
