It's always a licensing debacle, not just purely for anime, western shows get terrible games too.
I remember when platinum games was making a korra game and retards on /v/ were like "this is gonna be the best thing everrr"
Fucking retards, honestly.

Either way only good anime game I've ever played was senogku basara and I don't know which came first the anime or the game and I don't want to know, but considering the anime was kinda shit I assume it was the video game.
