I think the Saints Row remake was about as good as SR3, but with so much time passing I think people having much higher expectations for what an open world game should be doing. SR3 got by because it allowed for some really wacky fun over the top stuff but going back to it now there's a lot of missions that are kind of mindless shooting galeries. I was playing the DLC of 3 recently and just waiting for some sequences to just fucking end. I don't know what Saints Row needs to be doing these days to get back on its feet but being a lamer version of SR3 wasn't it.

Where Saints Row went wrong wasn't trying to be more goofy and funny. It was focusing too much on the story and neglecting the sandbox aspect of the game. They should have focused on creating a living city that you fight other gangs in for territory and profit>Well SR3 does thatYes and no. Where they went wrong with SR3 was saying they can't compete with GTA in telling a gritty, deep story with crime and gang elements because they'll forever be called a GTA clone so instead they decided to lean heavily into the goofiness and now SR3 has failed the test of time and its a largely unfun (to replay), forgettable game.The protagonist in SR2 was a psychopath and desu morally unjustifiable character, it basically allowed the player to play out the ultimate power fantasy of being a badass who gets revenge on his enemies in the most gruesome ways possible. I just can't stand the quirky ironic dialogue of the protagonist in SR3 the contrast between the two games is astounding. And all the relationships in the game you have with your allies reminded of how characters in the office/scrubs and friends interact with each other.
