Why don't consoles go down in price after years in production like they used to anymore
>>724246203haha, funny dollar not worth anything, haha
>>724246203Because the entire global economic system is built on a model of infinite growth and if companies aren't making more money year after year or not making enough over what they made last year to please shareholders, that is tantamount to failure. And due to current economic conditions they figure the best way to squeeze more money out of people is to keep their products at the same price for its lifespan, or even raise its price in some markets despite containing years old outdated tech.
More like why don't our wages go up huh? I'm not racist (I am) but seeing thirdies in the middle east (not counter oil states) being capable to afford 500 dollars electronics is pissing me off.
>>724246203Because the consoles were released right before a period of high inflation combined with a sudden gigantic spike in demand for chips.
>>724246203check the used market. prices always go down. new is clown price. look at gpus. nvidia wants you to pay $1400 for a new 5080 when you can get a used 4080 super for what $600?
>>724246915patially true, and both of those problems were connected to the pandemic, but it's also true that hardware has mostly plateaued and iterations between generations is starting to stretch into a decade
it's super weird, but it makes sense in regard to western civilization declining. The used game market is ridiculous because it comes from a time game company's would put polish into their game before publishing it, when hardware was far more reliable than Windows 11, and companies wouldn't IP squat on franchises they can't make a new game for. To even call the current generation "consoles" is laughable, they are more like cable company boxes that they still own and can decide which games you can or cannot run at a given time. Game companies want Xbox Pass to be the norm. Steam may not sell you physical copies and Steam may force you to download their platform, but at least they let you "keep" your game indefinitely.
>>724246203Because corpos use holidays and their own introduced sales days for discount prices instead now, reducing prices to what they should be in general only for a limited time. Giving people a feeling of getting a steal while the corpos increase their profits even more. Or why do you think black friday, cyber monday, prime week, Christmas and etc. are popular than ever?
>>724247227>japanese product manufactured in china using parts from taiwan>western civilization
>>724247064>used marketI'm not looking for a console or anything but other stuff liker racing wheel, flight sticks, vr headset on ebay and some country specific used market site and holy shit it's fucking FUCKED.People are asking the retail price for their items It's crazy. There's no good deals at all.
>>724246203Inflation outpaces depreciation. Microsoft straight up RAISED the price on current xbox hardware it's so bad. Remember, you voted for this.
>>724248353out of print accessories/games can be worth a lot more. hell my ps3 e3 flasher and ps3 dualshock3 is worth more now than what i paid for it just because its genuine and not a chink clone thats all youcan find now.
>>724246203Because you allow your government to devalue your currency too quickly now
