I have no idea why people place so much faith in politicians to do anything that is in their interest, Trump is still one of them. Trump wants to make America into China, not be better than them.

Private sectors will always out perform the government, the government doesnt allow this because they have to validate the reason for taxes.

>free to play game
>has rare knives that could only be gotten by opening loot boxes or whatever
>rare knives can be traded, bought, sold
>poor people playing CS2 want to have the fancy knives but can't afford them
>someone gets the idea of 'renting' them the knife for a small fee
>suddenly there is a market for renting rare knives so they can look like wealthy players and show off to their friends
>CS2 players in poor countries realize this could be a constant source of income
>get knives, rent knives, collect rent
>after having X many knives being rented, a poor CS2 player makes more in a week than working a job in their country
>company seems to be willing to keep game alive forever, market seems safe
>they go all in on buying up knives and renting them out
>literally spending entire paychecks buying CS2 knives to rent out
>all convinced they are going to retire on renting out CS2 knives
>Valve suddenly allows people to CRAFT the rare knives, prices crater, and thus the money people are willing to pay to rent them craters too
>dumbass people who invested all their money into CS2 knives have not only lost half or more of their investment, but had the knife rent effectively cut off
>all they can do now is sell out while the market is still tanking, hoping to get out what money they can before it all falls to zero
>not many buyers since prices are still falling, so they get to watch their life savings vanish slowly and can't force a cash-out
That's what I've gathered.

A lot of nuance behind it. The speculative value of the skins might as well have as much tangible financial backing behind it as crypto (which is, not at all.) In reality any game of comparable popularity that offers player trading and a "real" digital economy could have seen a speculative bubble like this grow. The game itself doesn't matter, this could have been a story about Roblox or Fortnite if the market conditions existed for it. It might as well be NFTs under a different name as an asset class.

As for why the Chinese put so much into the asset bubble - this is where the economic nuance comes in. Because China's primary stock exchange is closed off from global trade, for the top 1% of Chinese earners who are looking for ways to further grow their wealth, they resort to investing into unregulated foreign assets as they're faster paths to growth, as the closed nature of China's market means investing into the domestic market leads to slower growth without outside investment being able to put money into it. It's the same reason why China's top 1% has caused generational damage to Vancouver's real estate market. It's all just vehicles to take their money out of China and to let it grow elsewhere and away from their government's hands. All that being said, it was always retarded to pour your money into an asset with no real tangible benefit or value to support it, and these people are getting exactly what they deserved for it.

Heres short story
>cs2 is free2play game
>the way it earns money is by players gambling on getting expensive and rare skins from boxes that drop
>0.26% to get knife (~385 boxes)
>0,64% to get convert (red item ~157 boxes)
>keep in mind that valve is SUPER smart about boxes
>usually box has great RED skin for popular gun (deagle, Ak, M4A1 or M4A4, Awp)
>and good skin for less popular guns
>naturally less popular gun skin costs MUCH less because lets be real people dont use them that much, so prices on them are usually low at ~10$ range
>people invest in knifes because game grows and more players want and can afford knife so its decently smart investment
>suddenly Valve makes GIGANTIC update
>you can craft Knife with ONLY 5 reds (you need 10 pink skins to craft into 1 red btw)
>that means that for 50 bux you can craft a knife
>Naturally this means people are buying more red skins
>price on them rises, nobody stockpiled on them because it made no sense
>knifetards are in panic because streamers are constantly crafting top tier knives for ~50$ (at first, now its much more expensive)
>we get this
>https://www.tiktok.com/@ohnepixel_twitchclips/video/7565181977339464982
>Killdozer, super cool guy btw, i won 2 skins on his stream btw crafts the most expensive knife in game
>Knife prices are in freefall
Now heres best part:
>in three days those knifes players crafted will become tradable and price dips even lower
>we will get 2nd suicide wave

This isn't the first time Valve has fucked over their fans and it won't be the last.

Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.

if they paid such enormous sums for those then they must really love the cosmetics and CS gameplay in general.
nobody forced them to buy them and they paid what they personally accepted as an acceptable price for them. willingly.
they still have what they paid for so they should still be happy

Some people have an ego and thats why they do it, its not just for money, some people spend money just to look good even, but they dont actually care about who they are representing. They get into the game and then they have to win.

You dont become rich by being altruistic, you dont become leader of a system that requires you stamp on the back of peoples heads by being nice. The fact you think Trump is different is just sad, I dont even dislike a lot of what hes doing, but he is just another politican, the shit hes doing is only "strong" in the context of modernity. His tariffs for example, is just plain and patently retarded and has done more to elevate foreign enterprises than help America.
>ok so we cant appeal to Americans anymore because it costs more
>why are we making for Americans then, lets make for China or better yet, ourselves!
>look, the Americans like it so much they are willing to pay through the nose for it so we make money still anyway lol
This was dumb, and done as a fuck you to everyone else because he wants to be seen as number one, but it did not help America and Americans at all. Things like the the games industry is leaving America because why the fuck would you want to work with them and make products aimed at them, theyll buy anything anyway it seems, I dont even think Trump expected that, I think he expected that if he basically banned foreign products people would make their own in America, and even Americans detest the idea of having all their games made by Californians and all their movies made by fucking Hollywood lol.

Imagine being a low class Chinese youth anon and have some empathy. They wake up at 6 am and go to their factory for 12 hours to be paid in peanuts. On their way home they pick up some gutter oil noodles and chicken for dinner exhausted from working 7 days a week. They log on Steam and see their future gone from the knife market crash. Thousands of hours of work gone trading and building a knife portfolio to have a better life to escape China. All gone.

Grey market websites acting as intermediaries. It's still fucking stupid though given the amount of trust required since this is all conducted under the table so there's basically nobody you can report shit to if you get scammed out of a knife by someone who rents it and never returns it. If you complain to Valve you're just going to lose your account because you violated the ToS. If you complain to whatever grey website you conducted your trade through, they're probably going to just say "Tough titty, faggot. There's nothing we can do about it."

By yellow metal are you referring to gold? If so, that's a fucking retarded comparison because gold actually has a wide range of applications beyond just looking pretty. Shit's used for electronics, medical implants, scientific instruments, among other things. There's genuine demand for it because it's used in so much shit. CS knife skins have no actual purpose beyond making your knife in CS look cooler. There's no legitimate demand for them because they're just alternative models for a single weapon in a single game. Also since it's a multiplayer game that """market""" can end at any given moment by Valve simply releasing a new CS game and everyone moving on to that new game.
