Did you really enjoy this gameplay? Be honest, I only played this for the cutscenes.
>>
>>724248352
The biggest issue is the repetitiveness of it. By the time I got mid-way through the game, fighting the BTs were more tedious than it was challenging. I enjoyed helping build the little highway in the 2nd area, made 5 starring a lot of those facilities a breeze.
>>
This shit was exactly as tedious as you would expect.
>>
>>724248352
I want to like this game so badly because it appeals to me on paper but the stealth sections where you gotta move really slowly to avoid detection from BTs is so frustrating and boring. I just wanna trudge through a mountainous region I don't wanna worry about that shit
>>
i do and skipped all the cutscenes. building stuff and using the tools to travel is pleasant. i would turn off the BT's if possibles, theyre nothing but minor annoyances
>>
>>724248352
Yes.
>Only played for the cutscenes
Mads' story won me over by the end but otherwise I didn't really give a shit, lot of Kojima branded exposition dumps.
I appreciated the story in that FedEx simulator in Ghost inhabited Rural Iceland is infinitely better than just doing it in modern day UK or some shit. Powerwashing Simulator's setting is dull as hell, both writing and artistically.

Yes. I love both of them, if the gameplay wasn't great I wouldn't play them way past the storyline just building roads and maxing out links. I see the cutscenes (especially in 1) as just something to tolerate.

Yes. Yes I did, it was relaxing. I enjoyed it more I thought I would. I took my time and approached the game seriously, checking for timefall to plan my trip, rebuild roads, connecting ziplines correctly, that sort of stuff...
It was a satisfying gameplay experience.

My problem lies more with the characters.
>>
>>724248352
Coming from someone who 100% the game: No, I haven't. The game is extremely repetitive, and not the fun kind of repetitive (like factorio), but rather repetitive and incredibly tedious. The action is terrible and the overall gameplay is bad, and you tend to handle things the same way every time. The logistics aspect would have been much better if, instead of you delivering the packages everytime, you could create a logistics network for other couriers to use for you. That would make the game infinitely better, because you have to 'grind' to get 5 stars with all the facilities, and it all comes down to you going down the same path, using the same traversal method you’ve been using, 200 times. The game is fun when you're facing new challenges and when you're building a logistics network or a road to get back to the same place quickly, but when you have to repeat the process using the roads or ziplines you’ve already built, it’s the most boring thing in the world because there’s no gameplay. Also, the number of menus is ridiculous and extremely poorly designed; to do anything is a very bureaucratic process, and the map provides very little information. You can’t even view it in 3D to check how steep the path is, and that really messes up the part of planning the route you’ll take to get to a specific place

What is there not to like about both games?

>the girls are cute
>Cliff/Neil are extremely cool antagonists and Higgs is pure over the top fun
>the soundtrack, art direction and atmosphere are god tier
>gameplay is relaxing, unique and fun to mess with, lots of different gadgets and ways to approach it
>story has a positive message about connecting and family
>the games are a technical marvel and run amazing while actually pushing the limits

At worst you can say that the game is not for you or that some mechanics feel janky/not fleshed out enough. Sometimes Kojima indulges himself too much but it mostly works out in the end.
>>
>>724248604
DS2 is literally the same game again. It was a bit disappointing.
>>
So is all the story in all the interviews and text?
>>
>>724257840
Nah. Sam's backstory is, at least to why he's such a loner, but this isn't MGSV.
>>
>>724248352

>>
>>724257817
>Higgs is pure over the top fun
This is the problem here. It's a very "make it or break it" situation to me, because I cannot stand Higgs. And not in the way you're supposed to hate an antagonist, like you love to hate because he is the villain.
He is such a try hard cringelord, I genuinely got annoyed. And I am so fuckin tired of Goy Baker it didn't help.
It really put salt in the wound when I saw he would be back in DS2. I just can't. This character is a walking annoyance
>>
I wanted to play as Fragile or Louise in DS2, ngl. I have nothing against Reedus, even if Kojima made he play a guy even more laconic than Venom Snake, I just think Fragile and Lou were more interesting at this point.

Also I am fuckin made Lou does call Sam "dad". Kojima really dropped the ball here
>>
>>724248352
Cutscenes in Kojima games have been pretty tame since MGS4. I don't think there's been a big HOLY SHIT moment since Raiden wielding a sword with his mouth and feet. Those couple fight sequences with Quiet in The Phantom Pain were pretty standard pre-Matrix action movie affairs. Same with Tomorrow in DS2. The stuff with Higgs at the end was all flash but the choreography was still just average.

The gameplay is interesting though, yes.
>>
There's a lot of shit in this game that I didn't even use
>>
Loved the floating carriers in DS1. Those things where my best friends after a while.
Are they still a thing in DS2?
>>
I wish there was some music player in the game, or maybe just more music in general.
>>
>>724257825
It's become too rare that a sequel improves upon the last entry or even remains at the same level of quality so i don't want to shit on DS2 for being a straight repeat gameplay wise, especially since it does improve on a number of systems. As such i call it a positive addition and not a disappointment.
>>
>>724259171
Apparently they just straight ran out of time to implement that, I know that was a common complaint.
I know both MGS4 and 5 had the ingame mp3 player but remember that DS was on the dumb Horizon Zero Dawn engine for whatever reason.
>>
>>724248352
same, I hated how the story barely moves forward for most of the game, you just walk and walk and join the places to the network and the story is there only at the beginning and the end

It started as a DLC but since some of the actors were not available at the time Kojima decided to turn it into a full game. It definitely has that DLC feeling but at the same time it's really good.
>>
>>724258137
my thoughts exactly
>>
>>724259304
>but remember that DS was on the dumb Horizon Zero Dawn engine for whatever reason.
>for whatever reason
The official reason Kojima gave is they made a big deal about his visit and really sucked his dick, and then presented the engine to him in a really nice box on a gold plated flash drive.
>>
>>724248352
I loved the first game and the second one is more of the first, but better.
>>
>>724258137
I thought the same in DS1, i thought he lacked pathos but i liked his character in DS2. He seemed fuller and no longer a mere metasarcastic take on internet trolls but instead his own character with the events of DS1 for backstory.

the fact that BTs and Terrorists/Mules were limited to specific areas made it extremely boring and repetitive. if enemies spawned or ambushed the player randomly it would have been somewhat interesting.

Yes. I like experimenting with all the tools the game throws at you
>using cargo catapult on faggot MULEs

>tony hawk chiral skater in mountains

There's a lot of autistic fun to be had, but also the game never really forces you to use the tools it provides so lots of people are just going to walk from A to B and then say the game is shit

It's quite literally just about carrying and spreading life with you and the other couriers in a world of death. The writing is fundamentally incredibly simplistic but Kojima forcefully tries to make it as esoteric as possible through weird design choices. He's not a good writer, he just likes it when things look flashy and "artful".

I actually really enjoyed the game-play. I found it relaxing, but it was slightly too easy. I liked that for the most part the terrain was your enemy. While walking I would be scanning and trying to predict the best route. Analyzing the map and bringing the right ladders, ropes, etc. to make an efficient path was fun. I also think it was a lot more fun early on when you do not have very high level stats. As you play, Sam starts to become better at traversing the uneven terrain whereas I liked "fighting" it and needing to be strategic with load distribution like leaning left/right. I feels like more of an afterthought later when Sam gets better, I remember in Act 1 with heavy loads canning so I didn't trip over a rock, but towards the end you're just sprinting, driving, or zip lining. I wish the story/lore was more coherent, it's way too Kojima. BTs are cool and very unique at first but become stale, and all the bosses suck. Mules were the most fun enemy.

I actually did. It was repetitive and kind of silly, but relaxing at the same time. It was just different from other games, combat wasn't the priority and just trucking around resources, building up the roads, building jumps and ziplines to the different shelters, it was silly but fun and interesting. I liked it a lot and it was a nice change of pace from a lot of the other games I've played over the years.

The timed deliveries too, some of them have such tight time limits that you have to actually spend an hour just building up some ziplines over rugged terrain and mountains just to get them done fast enough, there were quite a few like that in death stranding 2 and I did them anyways even though I didn't need to, just because it was fun to climb up a mountain to a specific place just to put down a zipline and connect it to others and make a pathway that gets me straight to the delivery up vertical cliffs
>>
>>724260184
in death stranding 2 a lot of the enemy camps are right on the path for many deliveries so you will have to stop and fight them especially on the eastern part of the map

There's also plenty of BT areas you have to clear out before you do some deliveries, but you can actually spawn your own BTs to fight them for you which is fun
