Does /v/ like Lily?
Don't you want to protect a cute little girl as she travels through dangerous eldritch horrors?
Metroidvania thread I guess

That hasn't stopped Shantae threads so far
I'll get around to playing Lilies eventually, OP. I burned myself out on metroidvanias with Pirate's Curse, Environmental Station Alpha, and Afterimage

This game kicked ass.

If you go purely by gameplay Magnolia is just flat out better. A lot of times the enemy poise did nothing and the collision damage was seriously annoying. However I liked the atmosphere and the rougher art of Lilies more. Lilies story might not be any special either but it made more sense than the one in Magnolia despite latter focusing more on it.

I'm thinking about trying Lost Ruins. What am I in for?

i played through the entirety of Lillies thinking she was barefoot. I was disappointed to learn she was not. Running around in all that madness and saving the world with no shoes on sounded so much more impressive
>>
>>724254230
Great game but man that final boss was easy
Still need to play magnolia.

Magnolia was the "better game" but i still liked Lillies a lot more. The enemies in Magnolia didnt really seem to be a threat for most of the game, they were just kinda there for me to kill or ignore while I went about doing things. Lillies had a much better atmosphere for sure, and the soundtrack was nicer as well. I do look forward to whatever the third game is, this dev team has my support for sure
>>
>>724255746
I think Ender Lilies is above mid, its pretty good. The sequel was pretty mid unfortunately.
>>
>>724257592
I disagree, I liked Magnolia's more experimental OST a lot more, and I think the enemies are about the same level of unaggressive. I played them in a row and I think it's just the same scripts.
Lillies has that one boss who just jumps around and spawns adds that's somehow a complete non-problem because of how passive the adds are.
>>
>>724257150
It's so mediocre that I forgot what exactly made it so mediocre.

All the bosses were trivialized at some point at least due to some retardedly powerful skills. And then there was a ton of menuing to switch items. Everything else was too forgettable.
>>
>>724254230
I like Lily but Liliac's game was better.

I plat'd Lillies last year and got Magnolia the day it came out, they were both pretty damn easy now that I think about it. Only thing I can remember holding me up in either game was the final boss in Magnolia, and thats because I refused to pick cheesy skills to beat it
>>
>>724256354
I also just finished Environmental Station Alpha. I didn't love it, but I liked the meat & bones metroidvania style it had going before the secrets get out of hand. I got 100% completion and noped the fuck out.

Next in line is either Ultros, Haiku the Robot or Death's Gambit. UItros seems the most interesting, but also the most divisive.

Also what is the worst metroidvania you have played? Ghost Song for me, with Metroid Fusion not too far behind.

>The enemies in Magnolia didnt really seem to be a threat for most of the game
In Lilies you had a parry ability but the parry shield in Magnolia is significantly better. Cliffside Hamlet was a pain in the neck at the beginning cause archers and ravens would spam you down. Situations where you get swarmed or have to deal with projectiles in Lilies are way more common and with the collision damage also harder to deal with. Lilac has way more tools and with the smoother gameplay it feels easier for sure but on 2.0 difficulty something like the arena tower is still hard.

I think the bosses are fine in these games, I've got no problem with Mr Clawknight in Lillies or robo-Vergil in Magnolia, and I'm fine with mob encounters being a pushover otherwise. I've never played a Metroid and thought "you know I wish it was just annoying to clear this room".
My main problem with Magnolia is that the sprint is literally the same speed as walking, what the fuck is up with that. They just plain fucked up and designed all the wall bash platforming challenges around walking speed.

>Lillies has that one boss who just jumps around and spawns adds that's somehow a complete non-problem because of how passive the adds are
Hoenir right? I assume his AI is borked in some way. Because he spend entire fight doing sick backflips. I assume idea was to balance pressure from his range attacks and adds being able to teleport behind you. But you clearly can just rush the fellow to death while ignoring them.

I enjoyed Lilies
not so much for magnolia
still wild to me that they did zero voice acting, or at least random gibberish like hk/mh
really made a lot of scenes feel awful, especially cinematics
>>
>>724257886
It mainly peaked my interest because its full of sexy girls and the sprite art looks great.

>>
>>724256354
that map looks fun but isn't afterimage rather shit?
>>
It was aggressively mid. Music was a vibe though.
>>
>>724258767
I'm glad it's fucked because that fight could've been pure cancer.
>>
Loved the hell out of Ender Lilies, even if the Claws kind of made everything easy mode.
>>
>>724259057
Ghost Song is just bad on every metric. Mummy Demastered is dragged down by some dumb as fuck design decisions, mainly having no full heals so you have to grind crates outside the boss room for 5 point pickups in a game where you're pushing 1000 health pretty fast.
>>
>>724259472
I just felt the level design in Demastered was absolute shit. Gameplay was nothing special either. Good graphics is all it had going for it.
>>
>>724259830
Yeah maybe, haven't played it since launch. OST was also decent.

Lilies-games have that good/charming flash-game quality to them. Something like Salt & Sanctuary hasn't aged as gracefully

I think this might be the next one I try after Blasphemous.
I know there's already a sequel out, how did that one feel?
Also out of curiosity roughly how long is Blasphemous? I saw it has a bunch of DLC and the relic stuff changing the elements of the world makes me think there's gonna be insane amounts of backtracking.
>>
I dropped it not so far in (around forest area) because I got really tired of all the flying enemies with their heatseeking missles.

I liked the look of the spirits from Lilies more than the homunculi, but I liked the generally faster gameplay of Magnolia better.
>>
>>724260570
Salt and Sanctuary is kinda unique because it's a dark souls in 2d. I remember really loving it. Such a shame devs didn't want the sequel. It could've been something cool

Any one play Last Faith? Is it worth a playthrough?
>>
>>724263249
It has some nasty difficulty spikes if you're not careful so do a bit of grinding, otherwise it's fun. Abandoned by the devs though so if there's a bug its not getting fixed. Flawed gem.
>>
>>724254230
I like both games
Cute girls and boys
I feel the vibes were better on lilies since everything felt more sinister and dark but i liked the npc in magnolia
They should have add more bench talk and you get the cool range homunculi very late to use and im surprised there were only 2 endings
They are both kinda easy but i really like the movement in both game since it was fun to waste 15 min trying to reach high places with the attacks
>>
>>724264013
It doesn't look bad from the little I've seen. I think I'll give it ago.

Nigger what? Salt & Sanctuary looks and plays like something straight out of Newgrounds but bigger and better. What about Lilies feels flash to you?
>>

>>
>>724254230

>>
>>724265473
Exactly, they're not remotely decent at pedophilia.
>>
>>724256857
Pretty much. I like the music in EL better too, especially in the 2nd half of the game.
>>
>>724257150
Early game, it really demands the player to go at a more methodical pace. Everything comes out very slow so you really need to pay attention to when you have time to make an attack, or try to mess with the environment as much as possible because lighting shit on fire isn't a joke.

Mid game, it gets much faster and more like a normal metroidvania. The big turning point is after fighting the gluttony schoolgirl that throws meat, she drops an infinite meat throw weapon that becomes the go to for most if not the rest of the game.

The best thing about the game is really the end game content. The devs are definitely fans of the Castlevania games on the DS because post game content is a Julius mode with 3 of the more normal bosses in the game. Unlike Julius mode that worked on bad end scenarios, Lost Ruins Julius mode is an actual continuation of the plot Grab it on sale if you're hesitant, a lot of people really hate how clunky the game feels at the start. It does get smoother as the game progresses, but it does take some time
>>
>>724254230
Ender Lilies is my favorite Metroidvania or was until Magnolia came out and became my new favorite.
>>
>>724267493
Is it actually good or you're just saying that because you're a lolifag.
>>
>>724268180
I'm not a lolifag so that should answer your question. Though yes if I'm being more critical in terms of gameplay it's not exactly the best but I'm a sucker for moody somber atmospheres and the brothers Grimm fairy tale aesthetic. The gameplay is above average for the genre for sure but it's the atmosphere and art and sound direction that really elevate it for me.
