in fact i did NG+, NG++ and then NG+++ with boss randomizer all one after the other because i liked the game so much, though it helped that DS3 is shorter

after seeing someone describe SotE bosses as "watching someone else have fun" I just kept thinking that through every fight in the DLC, i hope their next games make the difficulty more interesting

Have yet to play BB, ER, or Demon's, but finished all 3 Dark Souls this year. Demon's and DS1 have such good soundtracks, Demon's in particular surprised me, it reminds me of the old-From music (such as shadow tower abyss)

I hope From goes back to this sometime, more atmosphere and mood (like their older games, including Demon's and DS1), and more grounded combat.

Reasons why Dark Souls II was maligned:
>Soul Memory
It's bad because it counts total souls accumulated, not total souls spent, so you couldn't cease its progression. Then they added the agape ring, which works, but now it consumes your souls so if you want to twink you don't get to keep souls at all.
>weapon degradation
It was tied to frame rate, so on consoles it was fine, but on PC your weapons have the durability of wet paper towels. This is mitigated by consumables and spells, but I'd rather just not have the problem in the first place.
>enemy despawning
After they've been slain enough times, enemies will stop respawning. This is fine during a typical playthrough, but if you're the type to linger, eventually entire regions of the game will be devoid of anything in them at all. Empty maps. This is mitigated by joining the Company of Champions, but the covenant comes with its own changes that you may not wish to deal with

This is self explanatory; reds were upset because they had to farm for orbs. It's annoying busywork that could better be spent invading.

It puts pressure on the invader to do something, which is antithetical to the "I've got all the time in the world" strategies that people would employ, things like hiding and blending, lying in wait to ambush the host, or playing the long game by running through the level.

Why? It renders moot the entire point of Humanity/human effigies.

The first is self explanatory; there's too many healing consumables in the game that can just absorb damage. Bone dust effectively replaces Humanity, which makes no sense. There was no reason to fuck with the previous mechanics that worked so intuitively.

Funny as I felt the same with Gael and Midir in the last DS3 DLC too. And that's a big part of why I don't like those bosses, despite them seemingly being fan-favourites. Some of ER bosses look even worse than these and pretty damn unfair.

Honestly that's fair. I can see Midir being much more 'wait and watch' regardless of skill, but Gael being better the better you also got. I can see that being the case. It took ~10 tries for me to beat Gael and when I did beat him I still had most of my healing left and the fights were relatively getting shorter.

yeah exactly, and then if you fight him in NG+ you realize he's actually pretty "easy" while still being an engaging fight, i think that's a big part of why he's so well liked

How? It across the board looks and feels like a BB rip-off. And I like DS3, don't get me wrong, but there's a lot of overlap and haphazard copying of BB. For example no passive poise is pretty fucked up. A lot the weird washed out plasticy look it shares with BB too. I don't recall if BB NPC have that untextured plastic look either though, this may be DS3 exclusive.

i thought people were presently in agreement that normal enemies, normal hazards, etc were a total joke in ds3 compared to the average of all preceding games
