NG4's story was underrated, definitely the best in the series.Yakumo being a brooding edgelord is unironically important to the plot, he is clearly bitter and resentful about being part of the Dark Dragon lineage. The Hayabusa clan gets to be the heroes while the Raven clan gets to do all the dirty work. Meeting Seori, who's life is even shittier than his own, and seeing her positivity begins to change him. Her selfless sacrifice and the final boss literally being Yakumo's own dark side was absolute cinema. By the end he finally learns to get over himself. The credits and postgame menu shows how light has now returned to Yakumo's world, both literally and thematically.

Killing Seori off was really unnecessary. A big titty heroine dying in Ninja Gaiden feels wrong. I guess they went into this really intending it to be the last NG ever and, as the numbers have proven, they're not wrong about it.
In spite of removing a lot of strings this game definitely has the deepest and most complex combo creativity and depth in NG by far.I really hope the DLC weapons are good.And though this is a small small chance, it would be awesome if the DLC also added new moves to buy for existing weapons. That would push it even further.It will be really interesting to see how the game looks at a high level in a couple months and see how it has developed.

I just beat NG Sigma on Hard. It was a really fun time! I hopped on to Very Hard, and the difficulty jump in Chapter 1 was very apparent. Chapyer 2 felt a lot easier though.

And Ryu doesn't have access to everything at anytime, namely Ultimate Guidance which is a move so strong it defines the combat system for a lot of people, you have to kill someone to get it, which isn't all that different from Bloodraven. And yeah you won't kill elites with an FS but it'll lob the head off of common enemies reliably, especially coming off of a wall or if they're firing projectiles.

this game feels unreasonably difficult on normal. and it's really because the game makes no effort to abide by what you'd call some "tenants" of older 3d action games>try to limit off screen attacks>audio cues need to be distinct>visual clarity above allthis game is fun but i can't help but feel like they went out of their way to make it as annoying as they could. enemies are CONSTANTLY attacking you from off screen, there are no such things as audio cues, some ranged enemies are not visually distinct enough, some of the stronger enemies will literally break out of hitstun and hit you with an attack that deals 40% of your life on NORMAL. i like the dodge/block/parry system even if the "perfect" counter attack timing on them feels insanely strict for such a fast game. im not looking forward to hard or master ninja with this game, i can already feel myself tilting off the face of the earth. on a side note it is a little funny to me that NG never had a punishment system for using items, platinum abandoned it with TW101 and Bayo 3, but NG4 has it. so you have this incredibly difficult game that actively punishes item use for de-ranking when the series never did that before.

Beat it yesterday. I love the series but 4 just didn't feel like a NG game to me. Ninpo for Ryu felt weak, the fire birds almost felt pointless. Ass story and level structure (break 3 pylons, break 3 statues, break into 3 demon realm) and Ryu being subjected to the crumbs with replaying old stages, with 1 just being a boss fight, was a joke. Achilles was rushed to hell too, I thought he would stick around to the end but no. No dark spider clan was disappointing, although they did put regular ninja enemies in trials mode so maybe the DLC will see them return. God awful dub from almost everyone involved. Ayane's discount "The Major" design was shit too. Not crazy about the futuristic designs or mid 2010s street ninja wear, it looked like scrapped concept for a Nier: Automata 2 and Ryus ass plates were Raiden-esque.It is fun in the end though and defintely platinums best

Make sure you unlock moves like flying swallow and the upgrade version, it's a good move to give you time to spacing and time to figure out what you should do next. I love to switch weapons constantly in these games. I swapped between the 4 against Kagachi, Ryu, the Dragon and the final boss. Thats why its a shame Ryu only gets the sword. I want to play more with him but I wish he had a bigger moveset
