Is this actually good or is it linear garbage like Dread?
>>
It's good IF AND ONLY IF you play it with a controller. If you are a huge faggot that needs a mouse just skip it, you're wasting your time and cheating yourself.
>>
>>724273271
They're both good.
>>
It's way less handholdy and free form in how you traverse the world but sequence breaking requires more jumping through hoops. Overall i think prime is a better game by a not insignificant amount

It's easily one of the best Metroid games ever made.
>>
>>724274161
Playing FPS games with a controller is a mark of a faggot.

this is the path through the first area of the game but the entire game is like this
>>
>>724274389
Yeah, retards like this that think it's space cod, they're incapable of enjoying a (real) metroid game.
>>
>>724273271
actually real fuckin good to the point no other games that came after it can touch it.

it's good, but if you're looking for a physical copy you'll definitely want to seek out the USA 0-00 version. It'll have DOL-GM8E on the back of the disc. This version has all of it's exploits and sequence breaks unpatched
>>
>>724274556
The entire game is kino, we know.
>>
>>724274751
Dread sucks man.
>>
>>724274161
Switch 2 update with mouse controls when?
>>
>>724275035
Hopefully never, it ruined 3.
>>
>>724273271
First half is 10/10 before it turns into backtrack slop
>>
>>724275578
This and Windwaker have the exact same problems.
>>
>>724273271
hows the remake?
>>
>>724274389
prime isn't primarily an FPS, it has an inherent lock on de-emphasizing aiming. On the other hand, a large portion of the game is spent in the morph ball which controls like shit on KBM compared to an analog stick
>>
>>724274751
fusion is way too high otherwise a respectable list

>>724274902
dread is a good version of fusion. shame that its main new gimmick is one of the things it does worse, though
>>
>>724275643
at no point is wind waker a 10/10 or as good as prime, it's inferior to the other 3D zeldas in almost everyway

>>724277097
good if you want to do a normal playthrough, not as good for sequence breaking because it's based on the wii version
>>
>>724273271
if you liked the classic 2D Metroid games you'll be impressed at how this is a good 3D adaptation of that formula. If you're not super into those, you'll find a really boring dated game with some cool tech
>>
>>724273271
Creator raged that people were able to get jump upgrade early and patched it out, of a pre-internet game. Tells you how much he despised his own fans and was clueless about his success.
So make sure you get the original release.
>>
>>724277684
I doubt even 3% of people who've played metroid sequence break
>>
>>724277409
MKB is way better for immersion. Moving the camera around with a thumbstick feels unnatural, while moving it around with a mouse feels instant, like moving your head around.
>>
>>724275643
Except Windwaker doesn't have a first half. After Jet Force Gemini pulled this 'collect everything in the game to fight the last boss'; these two did make me never buy a console again.
>>
>>724277795
gyro exists for that so you get the best of both worlds
>>
>>724274389
it's termed as a first-person adventure, actually. so playing it as an FPS is the faggot move.
>>
>>724273271
Have you tried playing to form your own opinion?
>>
>>724273271
Play the original North American version (Gamecube, not Players' Choice) if you want to explore.
>>
>>724273271
It's basically a walking sim for 90% of the game, and playing with anything other than a GameCube controller nerfs the (already low) difficulty. Worth playing at least once, especially if you opt for an "authentic" experience on original hardware (or something closely approximating it). The visuals are great for their time, and in my opinion, it's easier to appreciate the design of enemies when using the intended controller + control scheme.

Echoes is a better game, overall.

never played the game but found this while doing an OoT randomizer. I think it's pretty nice, but I like the version randomizer more
>>
>>724273271
It is a masterpiece, and Dread is also filled with sequence breaks. There’s literally a bomb tube in the Kraid fight that you can only use if you got the bombs early.
>>
>>724274751
>fusion over zero mission
>original metroid rated that high
Nigger what?
>>
>>724274889
Oh yeah? Well, Motherfucker Mike says this game sucks dick. Easy game with gay boring backtracking and the only challenge is the last boss.
>>
>>724274751
i know that some day i'll finally get baited into dread and i know it's going to be mid tendie crap.

It's really fucking good during the first half of the game, until later when you start having to go back and forth between areas so damn frequently and there's not enough shortcuts to make it bearable. If you weren't getting the chozo artifacts along the way, that final gatekeep is a real bitch too.
>>
Metroid Prime is still one of the only games that's more fun to speedrun than to play legit. Same for the randomizer mod
>>
>>724281004
how so? I heard Prime speedrunning was dead
>>
Linear goodness.
>>
>>724273271
If you find Dread linear you will think Prime is a single hallway with no turns.
>>
>>724277757
With Prime it's mandatory. Playing the game without the Space Jump is aids.
>>
>>724274161

>>
>>724282154
prime is far less constricted and railroaded than dread, why would he think that?
>>
>>724286681
Less sequence breaking
>>
As a videogame, it is excellent. The soundtrack is amazing, the graphics and how the world looks are amazing, the levels and areas are all incredible, there are breathtaking moments.

As a Nintendo game, it's kind of average. A multi billion/trillion dollar company couldn't market it, sales for all gamecube games were low, it's just an fps game.
>>
>>724273271
It's entertaining, but at one point, you won't find how to progress unless you bomb every wall you've ever seen.
>>
>>724287057
not true for the original version, and on a first playthrough sequence breaks won't matter for OP in which case the concern is just with standard progression (more open in prime vs dread)
>>
>tuuuuuuuubes
>>
>>724288861
What. You don't have to randomly bomb. The scan visor tells you everything that's bombable and keeps track of what you already scanned so it's pretty easy to tell
>>
>>724289530
You don't even need to scan, lots of environmental destructables are signposted clearly
>>
>>724275112
Those weren't mouse controls. Those were pointer controls.
>>
>>724273271
Worse. It's baby's first fps
>>
>>724273271
Metroid Prime is legendary, but if youre a zoomer you wont enjoy it. Its not a run and gun.
>>
>>724280092
>my favorite nigger says otherwise
OK?
>>
>>724277563
*if you like Ocarina of Time then you will like this sci-fi FPS adaptation of that formula
>>
>>724286681
because that's not true, and everyone knows it. Prime is a game of walking back and forth down hallways.

It's way worse than Dread because the combat and movement are utter dogshit, so the backtracking gets really fucking obnoxious. Has significantly better music and overall aesthetics than Dread though. They really fucked up with the black backgrounds for the platforms in Dread, it looks ugly as fuck even though the game's general art design is pretty competent.
>>
>>724301601
It looks like Shadow Complex, if you like Dread play it.

>>
>>724302001
I didn't like Dread much ngl. There are things about it I like, but overall it feels like Nintendo's attempt to "catchup" with increasingly souls-leaning indie Metroidvanias but with much more professionalism in its game design, sometimes to its detriment. Super Metroid might've been lightning in a bottle at this point and it's all I ever wanted them to expand upon meaningfully.
>>
>>724274751
Echoes is not better than Prime.
>>
>>724302187
I'm hoping Prime 4 gives us Super in open world 3D with the immersive sim elements from Botw Zelda.
>>
>>724302187
>but overall it feels like Nintendo's attempt to "catchup" with increasingly souls-leaning indie Metroidvanias but with much more professionalism in its game design,
I didn't get that sense at all. Frankly it seemed like it had ignored the past 20 years of indie metroidvanias and just made a sequel to Fusion, to its benefit.
>>
>>724274751
Hunters’ campaign isn’t amazing but the novelty of a Prime game even working on the DS is neat, plus the multiplayer is sweet

It sure is, and it comes down to a couple factors. Improved level design; it makes extensive use of loops, which is something Super did well. You go off tangentially from a main area into a foreign location, probably fight a boss, obtain a new ability, and then you are deposited back into the main area with the next place to go opened by the ability.

I also praise it for its return of fan favorite abilities such as spin attack, and a superior gravity suit in the gravity boost, more movement options really does a lot for this game and for the genre. There's also reasons to use your beams, even switching back and forth between them in battles juggling your ammo. With the advent of ammo we also get a ridiculously powerful beam to use, that activates everything the other beams do, the portals, the doors, the new switches.

I also appreciate the variety in level design, and the background story being told through them. A desert devoid of much life being the genesis of the Luminoth people. How they advanced to a swamp teeming with life, contrasting the presence of life giving water. They eventually mastered their world and build a high tech fortresses among the mountain tops and created their own artificial sentience. I could go on and on about Prime 2. What could be said about Prime 1, other than it retreads staples from Super, and is very paired down level design wise.
>>
I liked it when it came out but my replay soured me on it. theres just too much fucking backtracking, its actually insane. Im not normally one to complain about such things but this game takes it to another level. and its really annoying in when youre in some huge labryinth of rooms and have to constantly consult the map to get around.

however the peak moments are PEAK.
>>
>>724302372
The ranking is purely the multiplayer honestly. The campaign was very barebones, and probably isn't worth anyone's time. The only novelty other than what you said it being 3D on a handheld then, is the multiple endings.
>>
>>724302306
That sense got stronger for me when they implemented additional combat-focused features like Dread mode and Boss Rush. I see what you mean by Dread feeling like a Fusion sequel though.
>>
>>724302372
Also the lore. All the hunters are really unique and help flesh out the universe more. I’m glad Prime 4 is using Sylux and I hope future games use the others too
>>
>>724302572
While the game wasn't very good, I liked the way it did multiple endings desu. Getting lore scans and reading them to unlock the last phase of the final boss is a very "Metroid Prime" idea.
>>
>>724302869
It should honestly come back. Some games just have really cool things that need to be brought back. Like the dungeon fairies in Majora's Mask.
>>
>>724302783
Would be sick if they are waiting to surprise us with the return of the other hunters from Prime Hunters. Maybe Trace is up on a hill while you cycle through and takes pot shots at you while invisible, gotta use xray visor equivalent, ect.
>>
>>724303047
The hunters from Hunters hunt Samus while she's haunted by the hunters' ghosts from Corruption
>>
>>724303047
Prime 4 should have Weavel while Trace is saved for a future game with the rest of his species
