I literally can't tell if this is good or not because of how rough the actual gameplay is in comparison to everything else.

Interesting plot, universe, characters and story but actually having to interact with the game sucks ass.
blood omen is a flawed gem. it used to be really hard to find a copy for a while after soul reaver and the other sequels came out, so a lot of us went and read transcripts of the story/dialogue/item descriptions just for the lore. rough, ambitious, very atmospheric. as a game it's not great but it's not totally broken either, just obtuse and sluggish and heavily reliant on bad combat. nothing about the gameplay experience feels polished. the puzzles mostly revolve around finding and pressing buttons. but it's cool. kain is cool. gibbing people with magic missile and drinking the blood of a roomful of chained slaves simultaneously is cool. hearing kain describe torture chambers and demonic icons and reflecting on his own fall into depravity is cool. kain is among the first true anti-heroes in gaming and has yet to be surpassed if you take the sequels into account. i wouldn't call it a good game for casual fun but it's good if you are in the mood for what it has to offer.

>>724283076I've always argued that pretty much every Legacy of Kain game is carried heavily by meta elements like voice acting, music, art style and lore.To be a little controversial; I don't think a single LoK game is particularly fun to actually play. Combat is usually brain dead simple, puzzles are uninspired move-X-to-Y or "find the red key for the red door"-tier and the level design kinda reminds me of Dark Souls But Not as Good Edition.
