Dreamcast or Steam versions of Shenmue? I want to play them
Steam version with the widescreen mod and audio restoration mod.
>>724287852Saturn/Xbox
>>724287852Steam is okay, you get japanese VA and you can save anywhere(you will understand in the late Shenmue 2)
Just save yourself the hearbreak and don't play this series because if you like it then you're only ever gonna be confronted with the unfulfilling gypsy switch of Shenmue III
>>724287852Last time I tried emulating the DC version on Steam Deck there were some visual issues and overall sluggish performance. Flycast.
Yakuza obsoleted this tech demo
>>724287852I've played both on the Dreamcast and it's basically a vn with lots of repetition and grindingI though it was cool when I was 20 but I doubt it holds up today.
>>724287852I vastly prefer the Dreamcast UI/menus but the Steam port isn't in any way bad
The game is genuinely horrible.
>>724287852I was so mad with the old lady mission because I actually studied some kanji and was looking at the signs and found the Yamamoto house, but I needed some hit some button to translate it into English. I spent so much time trying to figure out why it wasn't working despite it clearly being the location that I missed her quest window and never played the game again.
>>724289005>vn with lots of repetition and grindingYou are talking about another game, when I played it recently, I was kinda disappointed that you can't really work at the harbor as a proper job, the game will push the plot on you anyway
>>724288145>you get japanese VAIt'd be a travesty for anyone trying Shenmue for the first time to not experience the glorious English dub.
>>724287852If you're ever playing the second game you will be thankful the option to save on the HD ports exists when you get to one section of the game. I'm not going to reveal what it is but it has something to do with wooden planks. It makes it all so much easier and you'll be thankful for that. I don't think you can go wrong with however you play it though. On another note I really wish games more games did NPC schedules like Shenmue. Really sells the illusion of the life sim aspect, had convincing ways of tricking me back then. Well actually I more wish for getting real dynamic AI NPCs more so, all individuals with different priorities. Persistent world AI. I reckon today's technology could do a lot more advanced ideas of it.
>>724290891Does any game besides Majoras and Shenmue do NPC schedules?
>>724290924Oblivion
>>724289492I remember I waster a few days working at the hsrbor
>>724287852Play them on Youtube by watching a full playthrough no commentary
>>724290924Deadly Premonition, Oblivion, Gothic, Kingdom Come Deliverance, RDR2 and apparently some of the AC games. At the very least in Premonition you can follow people to their homes at night and around on their day.But for me personally I'm looking for what Todd Howard originally planned for Elder Scrolls Oblivion: Radiant Ai, but couldn't make it work without issues. The kind of thing of where the NPCs are always functioning in the world, and they're also independent. That's what Shenmue FEELS closer to, but never actually achieved. Or any video game has achieved aside from STALKER slightly doing similar. There's literally one game I know of that plans to do NPCs schedules that is persistent in an open world that never really go into 'sleep mode'. (rather lower process state but still simulated) and it's an upcoming indie/AA game that's stalker inspired.
>>724291796Oh and I almost forgot Shadows of Doubt. In fact Shadows probably gets the closest to Shenmue in some ways. Citizens have homes (in which you can break into opposed to Shenmue), they all have a daily schedule, but every person is also randomised on each play through. But as you're walking around the world as you're really passing by every person who is going about their day and have things to do in it. They can even be apart of your investigations.
>>724288246Crazy but you can just stop playing after the masterpiece that is Shenmue 2
>>724287852Remaster is fantastic
Why do people say Shenmue 3 is bad? I can see it looks goofy and has changed some mechanics but why does that ruin it?
>>724288812Yakuza isn’t even in the FREE genre.
>>724299073>FREE genre?
Just play the steam version. It's good.>>724298931One word: stamina.
>>724299103nta but:Full Reactive Eyes EntertainmentIIRC it was an acronym to describe the QTE heavy interactive cutscenes of the game, prior to the introduction of QTE as a term
>>724288812>>724299103They may seem similar, but they're actually very different.Shenmue's practically an immersive sim or an adventure game. It's all about exploring and interacting with the world to uncover a greater goal and mystery.Yakuza is an action game with a hub full of minigames and sidestories, a far more arcadey experience where you're always pointed to exactly where you need to go and told what you need to do.Both very good and i'd love to see RGG studios attempt a game with Shenmue's level of detail and interactivity.
>yakuza>very goodLMFAOhttps://youtube.com/watch?v=2ddVJQdfFkU
>>724298931>Why do people say Shenmue 3 is badBecause people fundamentally misunderstood that they were getting an authentic 2003 release in 2019, as if Shenmue 3 had come out on a normal timeline. People's expectations were fucked because modern sensibilities have ruined them and made it impossible for them to enjoy things. These are the same people who would replay Shenmue 1/2 and think they were too clunky to enjoy anymore.
