At least the guy who spent his life savings on Beanie Babies owned something real he could give away to sick kids or something.
>>
Can I get a qrd on this move by gaben? I couldn't give a tiny fuck about counter strike or whatever so I don't even know what this is all about, but I wanna know why these retards are killing themselves.
>>
>>724290612
Knife skins are rare.
Normal people can't get them.
Retards center their lives about speculated value of them.
>update drops
Normal people can get skins.
Retards kill themselves.
>>
>>724290612
gaben has several problems with cosmetic speculators:

1. they raise prices, which doesn't matter to valve because valve charges a flat fee
2. as a consequence of the above, real human activity declines which means less money for valve
3. valve is in the business of selling NEW cosmetics, not old ones that speculators hoard
4. valve is just gonna release CSGO 3 anyway, might as well rip this bandaid off now
5. rapid way of convincing hackers, botters, and other unwanted chinese, russian and other thirdie trash to fuck off voluntarily
6. this also lets valve flag potential accounts for botting or disallowed types of trading under steam TOS for review by a human

gaben isn't doing it for the love of the game but the reality that speculators destroy anything they're allowed to touch
>>
>>724291001
>>724290883
But what did this "update" do, goddammit? I don't understand anything, the only valve game I've ever touched is Portal.
>>
>>724291152
you can trade the lower tier gacha items for highest rarity tier gacha items
>>
>>724290612
I heard someone else explain it a couple times, but I don't play the game.
Old:
>can combine shit to get rarer shit
>can do this all the way up to the second highest tier
>highest tier can only be gotten by rare as fuck RNG
>resellers trade the highest tier shit for ever increasing amounts of money on a third-party website

New:
>can combine shit to get rarer shit, period
>now anyone can get the rarest tier if they have tons of shit to combine
>since the rarest shit isn't as rare anymore, the third-party site's values of all the super rare shit cuts in half
>>
>>724291303
Isn't that a given with any trading system? Except no one would be stupid enough to do that.
>>
>>724291152
You can reroll skins.
>>
>>724291390
its my understanding you can now craft up so a shitload of trash can eventually become something valuable
>>
>>724291390
He doesn't mean "trade", he means, say, combining four $1 items to make a single $10-valued item, and so on.
Before, the top tier drops were locked exclusively by RNG and you had to find them naturally or buy them from another player. Now you can just combine your way all the way up to the top.
>>
>>724290612
>game has skins rated on a rarity system
>you can trade 10 of one rarity for one random skin of the next level up
>red is the highest tier
>but knife/glove skins, which are also red, could not be traded for
>this meant good knife/glove skins were worth a fucking ton of money
>a big retarded investment/gambling grey market got built around CS skins
>valve updates the game two days ago to let you trade 5 red gun skins for a random knife/glove skin
>knife/glove skin values tank
>random red gun skins people had stockpiled because nobody wants them become valuable as fuck
>retards who had invested actual serious money into this system are now jumping off buildings
>>
>>724289172
What is it with money people and killing themselves at the slightest hint of hardship?
>>
>>724291353
>>724291549
>>724291639
Okay so it's the equivalent of Bitcoin/stocks absolutely crashing. Lol, lmao.
Gaben has blood on his hands, I just can't decide if it's funny or not.
>>
>>724291657
The problem is not even money, but the retard treating a fucking in-game skin as if it was "safer investment" as bitcoin
>>
>>724291390
I don't mean trading as in runescape buying gf, I mean as in an in-game system where given a certain amount of same-rarity items, you can trade for 1 of the following rarity, something like 10 common items -> 1 uncommon item, 10 uncommon items -> 1 rare tiem, and so on
this was possible previously but only up to a certain point, to get the highest rarity item you had to open a lootbox and get lucky, trade with another user or buy it on the market for A LOT of money, whereas now you can just trade 5 items of the previous rarity and get a super rare item
>>
>>724291152
tldr it makes rare skins less rare by making their drop rate higher. This then completely, instantly, fucked the skins market because most of it is botted to begin with
>>
>>724291826
>it makes rare skins less rare by making their drop rate higher
that's not what happened at all
>>
>>724291687
No, it's even dumber because it's a fucking skin in a game. Bitcoin is at least intended as an investment opportunity from the start, even if it's a retarded one. The trading system was never meant to be a serious investment platform and the only direct monetary means of interacting with it that Valve directly condones is the Steam Marketplace, which only allows you to sell skins for Steam Funbux.
>>
>>724289172
>telegram
Ask me how I know this is exclusively third world problem
>>
>>724291001
I think they had to rip off the bandaid sooner or later
the EU already doesn't like that the grey market exists in the first place and it was only a matter of time until it became politically viable to go after gacha in the US
>>
>all the fuckwits who wont get off voice chat talking about their rare pink dildo skin are now roping

thank fucking christ, i play this game to shoot people
>>
>>724292116
>i play this game to shoot people
Why would anyone play counter strike over (equally retarded) Call of Duty?
Hell I only know one CS map and it's the one the niggerkike tech youtuber shills use to measure FPS by the thousands. Always the same retarded map, they shoot a couple bots and fuck off to a different game. That's about the extent of my knowledge on CS. I wouldn't touch that game if you paid me.
>>
>>724292291
good for you zoomer, ive been playing since it was a mod for hl so it's just what i like
>>
>>724292436
Nice deflection.
Are you not even going to at least tell me if there's more maps other than that one? The goddamn game only has one (1)?
>>
>>724292521
premier has a map pool that is 7 maps and a pick ban system
>>
>>724291687
It's more like nft's crashing.
crypto and stocks are actual money that can be used as money. only other retards buy skins, it's a closed loop, until they fool some new retard into buying their skin all they can do is sit on them or sell them at fire sale prices to other retards that will sit on them. their super rare expensive knife skin is just a bored ape picture.
>>
>>724289172
0 confirmed suicides btw. most trades can be reversed so no one truly sold at the bottom. except on steam market that is.
>>
>>724292291
Because you still prefer one game over another? Weird question.
>>
>>724292291
>please listen to my dogshit opinion about a game I've never played
I don't even like counter strike and I still think you're a retarded turbonigger

in what way?
selling skins for real money is against steam tos and was never allowed.

It actually isn't. Steam has never explicitly banned RMT for items in the subscriber agreement, likely because TF2's entire economic system was built on the back of it.
Gabe's still not at fault for retards treating virtual knives like a stable investment, though.

Nftbros evaded great humiliation by the virtue of already having lost their war nearly five years ago.

youve made this thread like 19 times bro
who cares if some loser kills themselves, they do it every day
>>
>>724296665
just because they dont enforce it doesnt mean its not in the tos, tos saves their ass against dumb shit like this
>>
>>724296937
Go read the Steam Subscriber Agreement and tell me where the clause banning RMT is you stupid faggot. I literally just went and looked to verify.
>>
>>724291687
>blood on his hands
Bait or dumb, IDFK.
It's a third party reselling site, not something run by Valve, they created a third-party website just to resell digital shit in a videogame, which is dumb. Valve had nothing to do with this, neither did Gaben.
From the perspective of the game and everything actually relevant to Valve, this change lets people get access to shit that RNGesus wouldn't let them have, and gives them further use for junk they don't want, so for everyone but the users of that site, it's a good change.

>>724296772
To be fair, the threads are getting made by different groups each time.
>Steam fans
>guys burnt by the change
>anyone against Steam who wants to see them burn
>viral marketers for EGS and maybe GoG
>people who hate China and India
-and more.

Not that Anon, but Google and its AI thinks there's a rule. I'm too lazy to look deeper or check the sources though.

Fine, fine, cunt, I'll stop being lazy.
I had a few more minutes on my Youtube video, so I can do more than a 3-second google.
From what I see, there's zero rule against selling shit on a third party website, nothing in any of the legal docs on any part of Steam or Valve at all, it's okay. I don't know where those guys on the forums that the AI used as a "source" got that info from.
The closest thing I found was this in the SSA:

H. Third-Party Sites
Steam may provide links to other third-party sites. Some of these sites may charge separate fees, which are not included in and are in addition to any Subscription or other fees that you may pay to Valve. Steam may also provide access to third-party vendors, who provide content, goods and/or services on Steam or the Internet. Any separate charges or obligations you incur in your dealings with these third parties are your responsibility. Valve makes no representations or warranties, either express or implied, regarding any third party site. In particular, Valve makes no representation or warranty that any service or subscription offered via third-party vendors will not change or be suspended or terminated.

-but at best it's just "do whatever the fuck you want on those sites, it's not our problem, go bug them, not us."
>>
>>724291152
Basically, prior to this, knives/gloves you could ONLY get from opening cases. Drop rate is something like 1/340.
There is also a trade-up contract mechanic, where you can destroy 10 skins of a lower quality for 1 of a higher quality. Prior to this update, Red was the highest tier, gloves and knives being gold tier.

Since this update, you can trade 5 red skins for 1 gold skin.
The thing is, there were also trash tier red skins that objectively did not cost much. I had 5 red skins worth like 3 eur (now they are like 50 lol) before the update, so I could trade 15 eur worth of money into a knife worth a few thousand.

Not really. In-game skins are NFTs, criptos aren't although most criptos are shit enough to be as useless as NFTs.
>>
>>724298673
It's like women collecting labubus. It's the same thing. Artificial scarcity is a bitch.
>>
I’m not saying skin barons aren’t autistic enough to kill themselves over this but don’t people fake their suicide on discord all the time for attention? Or so they can get 100 people to message valve saying “people are literally killing themselves over this volvo pls!!”
>>
>>724289172
True, these dumbasses could have invested their money on labubus.
>>
>>724300313
yeah but these niggers sank everything into it because they were retarded enough to believe that digital cosmetics were a safer investment than real world assets. So it's not just their wallet that got crushed, but their egos as well.
At least with a house, even if it loses value, it's still a house you can live in and put your shit into.
>>
>>724300313
If that guy who literally rammed his car into a family and killed them over some CS:GO shit didn't make Valve flinch, then e-mails about unsubstantiated suicides are, at best, being printed out and used as toilet paper on Gabe's new yacht.
